Africa Booth Menu: Epcot Food & Wine Festival
The Africa Global Marketplace at Epcot’s International Food & Wine Festival dates to 1997, and has been a consistently solid choice, as sure as Kilimanjaro rises like Olympus above the Serengeti. This post details the Africa marketplace booth’s menu.
In terms of exotic cuisine, Africa is a probably more well known continent to Walt Disney World fans than it is the general public. With Boma, Jiko, Sanaa, The Mara, and spots within Animal Kingdom, guests have a lot of exposure to African cuisine, and even wines.
This is good, since the 54 countries that make up Africa are represented by two whole dishes at Food & Wine Festival!!! To be honest, beyond what we’ve tried at Walt Disney World and a few real world restaurants, our culinary knowledge of Africa is limited, but it’s hard to fathom that the second largest continent doesn’t have regional flavors that vary widely from Mali to Mozambique. In any case, we’re looking forward to trying both of these dishes (particularly the buttered chicken–always a favorite in our house).
Now that Epcot’s Food & Wine Festival has officially kicked off, we’ve updated this menu (and every menu) with food photos, thoughts on value for money, best use of Disney Dining Plan snack credits, and more!
Here’s what you will find on the Africa booth’s food menu this year at Food & Wine Festival:
Buttered Chicken with Micro Cilantro and Naan Bread – I’m a big fan of buttered chicken and naan, and while this didn’t have the ambitious ‘flavor profile’ that you’d find in the best buttered chicken, it’s very approachable, and a great way to try this dish without ordering a full meal at an actual restaurant. From that perspective, I’d highly recommend it. To those who already like buttered chicken, I’m a bit more mixed on it.
Berbere-style Beef Tenderloin Tips with Onions, Jalapeños, Tomato and Pap –
This also isn’t spiced or bursting with flavor the way those familiar with berbere spiced meats might expect, but I thought the flavor was more than sufficient here, and was pleased with the portion size. Either of these are reasonable uses of Disney Dining Plan snack credits (but not your best options).
BONUS: Spicy Hot Dog with Kimchi and Mustard – This is a ‘seasonal’ addition to the menu at the Outpost, and it’s shockingly good by Disney hot dog standards. A nice kick to the meat, great texture, and even a soft bun. Highly recommended if you’re in the market for a hot dog.
We don’t intend upon sampling all of the beverages at Epcot’s International Food & Wine Festival (particularly because most are not unique to Epcot, so you can find a ton of info and reviews of them via Google), but here is the wine menu for Africa:
- Simonsig Pinotage
- Indaba Chenin Blanc
- Jam Jar Sweet Shiraz

Your Thoughts
If you’ve tried any of the menu items at the Africa booth, what did you think? Favorites? Least favorites? What was and wasn’t worth it? Anything on the menu you’re excited to try this year? Toto, do you miss the rains down in Africa? 😉 Hearing from you is half the fun, so please share your thoughts in the comments below!
Is this the 2018 menu items?
If you ever get to Chicago, go to Ethiopian Diamond. Bring friends. Order their sampler platters. And order the house made mead. Freakin’ fantastic!
Africa is a continent, loved your remark about an entire continent being represented by 2 dishes. Seriously, WDW, you need a country (or two!) from Africa as permanent members of world showcase.
Um, Morocco is a country in Africa.
I have to say that I loved your remark about how the entire continent of Africa was represented by 2 whole dishes. It seriously made me laugh out loud. It would be nice to get a sampling of even 5 of the 54 countries on that continent. Thanks for the chuckle.
