B.B. Wolf’s Sausage Co. Review

B.B. Wolf’s Sausage Co. is a counter service restaurant in the Marketplace of Disney Springs at Walt Disney World. In this review, we’ll share food photos from BB Wolf’s, thoughts on dining here, and other random info about this quick service spot–which is really more a kiosk (like you’d find at Epcot’s Food & Wine Festival) than it is a fully-fledged restaurant.

Despite its modest size and menu, B.B. Wolf’s Sausage Co. is a popular spot due to its location, which is basically at the intersection of the Marketplace, the Landing, and Town Center at Disney Springs. Being near the bridge that leads to the far side of the Marketplace, B.B. Wolf’s undoubtedly sees a ton of foot traffic. That plus the crowd-pleasing menu makes it a spot that is a quick and easy impulse stop for hungry guests wandering around Disney Springs, having just worked up an appetite braving the madhouse shopping scenes in the nearby World of Disney and UNIQLO.

BB Wolf’s is one of many dining spots that came onto the scene last year as part of Disney Springs’ overhaul. With that in mind, the question with regard to B.B. Wolf’s Sausage Co. is whether it’s a worthwhile place for a spontaneous–or even planned–meal or snack…

Let’s start with ambiance. Since it’s literally a kiosk, there is not really anything to speak of. You have a scattering of uncovered tables nearby, but I’m not sure those are even “part” of B.B. Wolf’s Sausage Co. For my meal here, I went and sat by a nearby fountain–there’s also a plethora of waterfront seating in this area with views across the water.

Worth noting is that most of the seating around here is uncovered. On a sunny day, this could be problematic. Disney Springs is largely devoid of shade, and I personally find it to be a hotter place to visit than even Animal Kingdom.

I was rolling solo on this particular day, and I knew Sarah would not be particularly keen on a hot dog stand, so my original plan was to try the 3 Little Pigs Trio to sample a few of the hot dogs as an early lunch, take photos from my Disney Springs Construction Update, and then return for a second lunch of the Bratwurst and Cheese Spätzle. This way, I’d have a fairly comprehensive review of B.B. Wolf’s Sausage Co.

Unfortunately, the best laid plans of mice, men, and hot dog enthusiasts often go awry. B.B. Wolf’s Sausage Co. did not open on time, and I am remarkably impatient. I decided to go get photos for my construction update rather than wait around for 3-5 minutes. Oh, and after I ate the hot dogs, I “accidentally” got dessert at Amorette’s (an error I’m likely to repeat given how much I love Amorette’s Patisserie). But that’s beside the point–I’m trying my best here.

Anyway, the 3 Little Pigs Trio is served with the Italian, Latin and Greek All-Beef Hot Dogs with a side of Homemade Pickles. Each are one-third of a full hot dog, with the same full-sized dogs also being on the menu. You’re paying like a $1 premium over the price of any of the individual hot dogs, too.

We’ll start with general thoughts on the hot dogs: they are really high quality. These score big points for their size, seasoning, beefiness, snap, and texture. Likewise, the buns were fresh, soft, and had a slight butteriness to them. Perfection.

I know the menu at BB Wolf’s has changed a few times already (mostly in terms of the toppings) since it opened, but the high caliber of these all-beef hot dogs should be one constant, even if it changes again.

My favorite of these was far and away the Latin Hot Dog. This is an all-beef hot dog “topped with Queso Fundido and Havana-style Corn Salsa drizzled with Chipotle Mayo.”

The flavors here really meshed well, with the end result essentially being a gourmet cheese dog. The corn salsa offered a nice texture, while not overpowering the hot dog, and the chipotle mayo provided a kick of flavor and really brought the hot dog home. If I were going to do this over again, I’d just order this one hot dog.

Next up is the Greek Hot Dog. This is topped with “Tzatziki Sauce, Gyro Meat, Cucumber, Tomato and Spring Mix topped with Feta.”

One of the main ideas of B.B. Wolf’s Sausage Co. is that it serves “artisan sausages.” As someone who finds the term artisan overused, I feel like artisan sausage is at best something of an oxymoron, and at worst a contradiction-in-terms. Sausages and hot dogs are (usually) amazing because they are low-key, no-nonsense foods that are easily approachable.

The Greek Hot Dog exemplified one of the problems with some purportedly artisan foods: fanciness for the sake of fanciness. By themselves, the toppings were fresh, light, and tasty. On a hot dog, they were an odd juxtaposition that just didn’t work for me. The silver lining here, I guess, is that it’s impossible to keep the toppings on the hot dog, so you will be eating them separately.

The final item in the 3 Little Pigs Trio is the Italian Hot Dog. Despite the menu name, this is another all-beef hot dog. Or, at least mine was. I’m guessing this differs from the regular Italian Sausage on the menu because for this trio, they cut a full-size hot dog into thirds.

In any case, it’s topped with peppers, onions, and marinara. This one was pretty straightforward, and good. I could’ve done without the marinara, but it was still a good effort.

I also tried the House-made Pretzel Braid served with Cheese Fondue and Mustard. Available as a snack credit on the Disney Dining Plan, this is a solid choice if you need some filler and have an hour or so to go before a “real” meal.

I really enjoyed this, but I could see others being put-off by the amount of butter on it. It was rich, a fact that probably was not helped by the fact that I ate the entire cup of creamy cheese fondue by myself. Simple and straightforward, but delicious.

In my opinion, B.B. Wolf’s Sausage Co. is worth your time and money. I’m not necessarily sure I’d build a stop into my itinerary (even though that’s exactly what I did), but I wouldn’t be averse to stopping here (again) if I were hungry and needed a meal or were looking for a savory snack to get me by until a full dinner at one of the many excellent Disney Springs restaurants. While it’s not one of the elite restaurants at Disney Springs, I’d go as far as to say that B.B. Wolf’s Sausage Co. serves the best encased meat products of any quick service restaurant in all of Walt Disney World. Now if that’s not high praise, I don’t know what is.
