Farm Fresh Booth Menu: Epcot Food & Wine Festival

The Farm Fresh Global Marketplace at the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival serves “a harvest of healthy fare–fresh from the farm to your fork.” This post takes a look at the Farm Fresh booth’s menu and what you can expect from it.

Let’s start with that quote above, which makes literally no sense in light of the menu. It’s pitched as being healthy. I’m not exactly sure where bacon loaded mac & cheese fits into that. Ditto the hard cider. Then there’s the farm to fork element. This is a large scale event serving the same 3 plates in massive numbers. The notion that it’s delivered to Epcot by local farmers each morning is about as plausible as all of the food served at Garden Grill being grown in The Land’s greenhouses. (It isn’t.)

So basically, what we’re left with is a booth serving whatever, with a booth name trying to capitalize on popular buzzwords. Farm to fork is literally so meaningless that even McDonald’s claims to do it. McDonald’s. And they aren’t lying, because almost all food you buy is grown on farms. (Surprise, surprise–it’s not grown on the backs of lab mice!) At the end of the day, all anyone really cares about is whether the food tastes good and offers reasonable value for money; this kind of misleading ‘pitch’ is more irritating than anything.

Basically, this whole rant is to say the name is a misnomer. Okay, with that said, here are some food photos, thoughts on value for money, best use of Disney Dining Plan snack credits, and more at the “Farm” Fresh booth…

Here’s what you will find on the Farm Fresh marketplace booth’s food menu this year at Food & Wine Festival:

Chicken and Dumplings: Stewed Chicken with Mushrooms and Spinach – Despite being a fairly hearty dish with some (typically) flavorful ingredients, this struck me as particularly lacking. The mushrooms and spinach didn’t do much to save the bland chicken. It was okay, but I was expecting more than just okay.

Pickled Beet Salad with Herbed Goat Cheese, Minus 8 Vinaigrette and Toasted Walnuts – This was one of the biggest surprises of Food & Wine Festival for me. “Pickled beets” are not exactly words that perk up my taste buds, but these worked really well in the context of this light, refreshing salad. A solid option.

Loaded Mac ‘n’ Cheese with Nueske’s® Pepper Bacon, Cheddar Cheese, Peppers and Green Onions – Fairly standard Mac ‘n’ Cheese, but with just enough texture and the right balance of “other stuff” to put this over the top and rank in the recommended (or perhaps even “highly recommended”) category for me. I’m a sucker for loaded mac & cheese, so keep that in mind.

We don’t intend upon sampling all of the beverages at Epcot’s International Food & Wine Festival (particularly because most are not unique to Epcot, so you can find a ton of info and reviews of them via Google), but here is the drink menu for Farm Fresh:

  • Woodchuck Raspberry Hard Cider
  • Wyder’s Dry Pear Hard Cider
  • Two Henrys Elderberry Hard Cider
  • Florida Orange Groves Mango Mama Wine
