Haunted Main Street Train Station
The last ghouls slowly perish from the Magic Kingdom after a long night during Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party in September 2012. Halloween in the Magic Kingdom is always fun, even if it would be a little more fun if there were a couple of attraction overlays for the season, like there are in Disneyland. I know Haunted Mansion Holiday will probably never come to the Magic Kingdom, but Ghost Galaxy doesn’t seem like that much “work” to do for an overlay, and Disneyland fans seems to love it. If Disney didn’t want to do that overlay on Magic Kingdom’s Space Mountain, maybe they could do a spooky version of the Jungle Cruise? Add some foreboding lighting and a corny Halloween-themed script in the vein of a Halloween B-movie and you’d have a low cost attraction unique for Halloween. If it were only utilized for Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party, there wouldn’t be the issue of tourists not getting to experience the “original,” either.
I know this is unlikely to happen, but I can dream. Oh well…at least the Magic Kingdom does a good job with the right mood for the party. Except in Adventureland, where the DJ style music just does not work at all.
We don’t do a whole lot for Halloween, despite it being one of Sarah’s favorite holidays (supposedly–we’ve never really done anything for it, so I’m not sure I buy this). Trick or treaters don’t where we live, we don’t create elaborate costumes or go to parties, we have never been to haunted houses, and we don’t carve pumpkins. This year, we thought we’d watch a couple of Halloween movies to ‘celebrate’ the holiday. However, horror movies aren’t really our thing (although I’m a huge Hitchcock fan, his movies are not horror), so we didn’t know what to watch.
There was a category on Netflix streaming, so we just ended up picking From Dusk til Dawn from that list, which didn’t seem that “Halloween-ish.” It’s probably too late to choose another movie to watch this Halloween, but for future reference, what movies do you all suggest watching for Halloween? The movies don’t have to be good (cheesy is fine) nor do they have to be scary…they just need to be the type of thing that gets you in the Halloween mood! Share as many of your favorites as you’d like–we need to stock up!

I thirdly recommend “Hocus Pocus”. Definitely cheesy, but it’s DISNEY and a great cast to boot. Bette Midler, when interviewed recently, said that it was one of (if not her actual) favorite role.
Forgot to mention the movie that we actually watched last night: “Blackbeard’s Ghost”. Again, cheesy & Disney, but a classic!
Wow, lots of votes for Hocus Pocus. Guess I’ll definitely be checking that out!
Hocus Pocus, Nightmare Before Christmas, Grinch Night, Halloweentown (Super cheesy kiddie movie)
It’s The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown would be a great preshow to any Halloween movie.
That was on TV last night, and I tried to get Sarah to watch, but she wasn’t interested. I’ve tried for the past three years without success. Grinch! 😉
Ghostbusters, Beetlejuice, and Young Frankenstein are always good, plus some of the old monster movies like Frankenstein and the Mummy!
Ghostbusters is a favorite, but I haven’t seen Beetlejuice in YEARS and I don’t think I’ve ever seen Young Frankenstein. Thanks for the suggestions–I’ll add them to the list of movies to buy!
Hocus Pocus! Too funny. Sometimes I watch Sleepy Hallow with Johnny Depp. Nightmare Before Christmas is good too.
Sleepy Hollow is a good one, totally forgot about it. I’ll have to read a bit about Hocus Pocus and potentially add it to the list. Nightmare Before Christmas is a “bridge” movie for us that we’ll watch in the coming days (hopefully).
