The Dawn Of A New Disney Era Photo

The only structure of its kind anywhere, EPCOT Center’s colossal geosphere will tower 180 feet above the entrance to Future World. Once beyond this architectural wonder, the Future World visitor will know no boundaries.

We had a bit of time to kill one morning before lunch at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge at Walt Disney World; it was too little time to do Spaceship Earth, but enough time that we felt remiss if we didn’t stop to take some photos. I spotted an interested vantage of of the monorail track, so we waited for the monorail. And waited. It took around 10 minutes for the monorail to arrive, but it seemed like an eternity. After I grabbed a few shots of the monorail, we were in a position that we might be late for lunch depending on the buses. However, I noticed the location of the sun in relation to Spaceship Earth, and just had to run over for a couple of quick snaps. This shot was one of them, and I ended up liking it much more than the monorail photo. For some reason, any photo of the sun peaking out from behind Spaceship Earth reminds me of the old EPCOT Center “Dawn of a New Disney Era” slogan from 1982. This photo is no different. I think it really embodies that optimistic spirit of EPCOT Center. Hopefully 2012 will be the Dawning of Another Disney Era.

Technical details: single exposure (non-HDR) image shot with a hand-held Nikon D7000 and Rokinon 8mm Fisheye Lens. See our guide for more photography equipment recommendations.
