Disney Christmas List 2011

Need help shopping for that Disney fan in your life? As people who love to buy things, we’re here to help!

In recent years, we’ve switched almost exclusively to online shopping. Well, I have. Sarah still likes B&M stores for clothing, but I think it’s more difficult to purchase women’s clothing without trying it on. We also buy groceries in stores. That’s about it. Our Amazon Prime account gets a serious work-out for all other items, as I find Amazon typically has better prices thanks to lower overhead. However, this isn’t a treatise on the excellence of Amazon.com, so I’ll just go ahead with the lists.

First, here’s what I think would be good for Disney fans. I already own a lot of these items, although many I do not as they’re not “age appropriate.” That said, I can’t wait until we have kids so that I can play with Legos again!

Disney Fan List:

The Muppet Show: Season One – Muppet-Mania is sweeping the world, and for good reason. See Jim Henson’s original 1970s witty-creation that started it all. Probably one of TV’s best-ever variety shows!

A Disneyland Christmas – My Kindle eBook featuring 170+ beautiful Disneyland Christmas photos, reviews of Christmas foods at Disneyland, and tips for the holidays!

The Lion King (Two-Disc Diamond Edition Blu-ray / DVD Combo in Blu-ray Packaging) – A Blu-ray re-release of one of Disney’s greatest animated classics. This one has an amazing transfer and is chop-full of special features. Get the 3D version if you have a 3DTV, but everyone else should get this version.

Celebrations Holiday Special Edition – Lou Mongello and Tim Foster put together a great Christmas coffee table book. Of course, I might be a little biased because I’m one of the principle photographers for the book. If you love Christmas at Walt Disney World, this is an absolutely great buy.

Disney Theme Park Exclusive Space Mountain Building Block Toy Playset – Did I mention that I loved Legos as a kid? Well, I did. Sarah says I’m too old for this, but if you have kids, get some Legos for “them!” 😉

How to Photograph Fireworks eBook – I co-authored this book along with the DisneyPhotographyBlog.com guys. It’s a great resource for DSLR or point & shoot camera users. Use code CHRISTMAS at checkout for 50% off the book!

The Muppet Movie – Kermit’s 50th Anniversary Edition – The second best Muppet movie (as of this writing, I haven’t seen the new one) ever released. Many people actually consider it to be their finest film, but I’m partial to Christmas, so…

Color Companion to Walt Disney World (2012) – The Color Companion to the best Walt Disney World travel guide gets a new edition in 2012, and will include photos from me!

Disney Food Blog Guide to Walt Disney World Dining – Disney Food Blog is easily the best resource for Disney dining, and the DFB Guide to Walt Disney World Dining takes the best aspects of the site and puts them together in a beautifully designed eBook! You might also consider checking out the new DFB Magic Kingdom Dining Adventures.

Dinner at Victoria & Albert’s or Napa Rose – Two restaurants that otherwise might be tough to justify visiting due to the cost. Create a “gift certificate” for a loved one for a visit to one of these two restaurants. They’re both worth the money, and you’re loved one will appreciate the effort of a “homemade” gift. (That’s really easy to make!)

The Muppet Christmas Carol – Kermit’s 50th Anniversary Edition – The BEST Muppet movie. Seriously. Possibly the most faithful retelling of A Christmas Carol, too. We watch this movie at least 3 times each Christmas, likely making this our most-watched movie ever. Please, Disney, re-release this on Blu-ray!

The Muppets: A Green and Red Christmas – Sarah can recite all of the lines in “North Pole Comedy Club.” This is one of our favorite Christmas albums, and is a stark contrast to a lot of Christmas albums that are merely the same track lists performed by different musicians. This one is really unique.

Walt Disney Imagineering: A Behind the Dreams Look at Making More Magic Real – I ordered this for Sarah to give to me for Christmas. I was really bummed when it showed up sealed, meaning I couldn’t sneak a peak. If it’s even half as good as the first volume, buying this is a no-brainer!

Kinect Disneyland Adventures – If you don’t own a Kinect, buy one just for this game. Seriously. In some regards it is aimed at a younger audience (I don’t find myself wanting to virtually hug characters), but the mini-games are fun for the whole family–even adults!

TouringPlans.com One-Year Subscription – As many of you may know, I work for TouringPlans.com, so again, I’m biased. However, I only work there because I strongly believe in the product. Check out the new Optimized Touring Plans to get an idea of the awesome tools included in one of these subscriptions!

Disney Hallmark Ornaments (sold in stores only) – This year’s lineup is incredibly solid. Also, check out eBay for past year’s ornaments. We are Hallmark ornament fiends, spending way too much money on these ornaments each year.

Now, here’s my list. I use a handy browser plugin from Amazon that allows me to wish-list any item on any website. Some of this stuff isn’t Disney-related, but I think it’s cool, anyway!

Tom’s List:

Designing Disney – I’m actually a little embarrassed that I don’t already own this book. It’s reasonably priced, and covers a topic about which I’m interested.

Walt and the Promise of Progress City – All reviews I’ve read have been resoundingly positive. If it’s anything like Sam’s other material, it’ll be great.

Gardens of the Walt Disney World Resort: A photographic tour of the themed gardens of the Magic Kingdom, Epcot Center and other resort areas – Obviously, I’m asking for a used copy, not the $510(!) new copy.

12 Angry Men (The Criterion Collection) [Blu-ray] – One of my favorite law-films, I’m glad to see this finally getting the Criterion treatment!

40th Anniversary Ornament – I have a feeling I’m getting a lot of WDW40 presents…

Disney Parks: The Secrets, Stories and Magic Behind the Scenes [Blu-ray plus DVD and Digital Copy] – I’m normally a little weary of these Disney-produced DVDs, but this is a nice Blu-ray set with digital copy for around $20. Not bad, even if it is just fluff.

Sleeping Beauty Castle Ornament – I love light up ornaments. We already have a Cinderella Castle Ornament from Hallmark, so this would make a great companion to that.

Walt Disney Treasures – Disneyland USA – This year will be big for Disneyland items in our household, as this is the year we’ve really gotten into Walt’s original Magic Kingdom.

Three Colors: Blue, White, Red (The Criterion Collection) [Blu-ray] – Kieslowski is my second favorite director to Alfred Hitchcock. His magnum opus is the Decalogue. The Three Colors Trilogy is exceptional, too.

Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City – Delayed until 2012, it’s probably not a good Christmas gift, but I’m still looking forward to this. I absolutely love Resident Evil games, even the arcade-style shooters.

Nikon D3S 12.1 MP CMOS Digital SLR Camera with 3.0-Inch LCD and 24fps 720p HD Video Capability (Body Only) – Hey, a guy can dream, right? If DisneyTouristBlog has any independently wealthy readers who would like to become prestigious “Platinum Sponsors” now you know how… 😉
