Disney’s Beach Club Resort Review
Beach Club is a Deluxe Resort at Walt Disney World in walking distance of EPCOT and Hollywood Studios, with Skyliner gondola and boat transportation to those parks. This hotel review features room photos, restaurant info, commentary on the amazing pool and much more. (Updated May 30, 2021.)
As Walt Disney World’s phased reopening continues, Disney’s Beach Club Resort is now open as of Memorial Day weekend! This belated return comes after the Beach Club Villas reopened last June and Disney’s Yacht Club Resort reopened last August. There are now only a handful of hotels that remain closed–see Walt Disney World 2021 Resort Reopening Dates for more info.
The most noteworthy thing to know right now is that capacity at Stormalong Bay pool, aboard the Skyliner, and on buses is reduced due to physical distancing, which can lead to longer waits and lines. However, since Yacht Club and the Disney Vacation Club wing of Beach Club have been open for nearly a full year, there’s not much at the resort that remains temporarily closed. Most shopping, dining, and recreation are available–let’s start with a list of what’s open…

Regularly lumped together with its sister resort, the adjacent Yacht Club Resort (sometimes even referred to as “Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club Resort”), Beach Club is very different. Most obviously in that its exterior has a light blue color scheme as opposed to the gray of Yacht Club, but also in the more laid back theme. Beach Club is modeled after seaside resort cottages found in New England in the early 20th century, rather than a refined yachting club.
We feel that Disney’s Beach Club Resort is among the most well-rounded hotels at Walt Disney World, with a great location, strong table service dining, great theming, and top-notch amenities. It’s the resort we’d choose for our Walt Disney World vacations if money were no object. While it’s not without criticism, Beach Club fires on all cylinders to rank as one of our top Walt Disney World resort-hotels.
On the exterior, the Beach Club looks great. It was designed by Robert Stern, who also designed the Newport Bay Club in Disneyland Paris, which is strikingly similar to Beach Club. Apparently, Disney was quite satisfied with Stern’s take on seaside cottages.
That, or Michael Eisner was obsessed with his childhood summers in New England and directed the company to build a number of hotels in the late 1980s in this general style. Regardless, the airy Victorian look of the trim against the blue siding of the resort along with the touches of theming give the hotel an element of whimsy.
Both inside and outside, this contrasts nicely with the more stately design of the Yacht Club. While the two hotels are more or less the same, we’ve noticed that the Yacht Club is a tad stuffier (not to the point that it’s actually “stuffy,” it’s just closer to that point than the laid back Beach Club).
Inside Disney’s Beach Club Resort, the seaside motif continues, with paintings of New England and fixtures that evoke the beach feeling. The color scheme is generally cool, consisting primarily of light or pastel greens and blues.
The rooms also continue this theme, but here’s where we think the hotel stumbles a bit. Disney’s Beach Club Resort is attempting to execute an early 20th century theme, so in theory the rooms should always have a timeless feel of that era, but they don’t.
This was true of the old rooms, and it’s still true of the new ones. The problem with the old was that it was as if they’re an early 1990s take on the early 20th century. They felt like something you’d see on the Golden Girls, and most definitely weren’t timeless.
On the other hand, the new rooms are generic and bland it looked. These look like rooms you could find at some random Hilton anywhere in the country for about $400 per night less.
Granted, there’s a certain premium to be paid for the location advantage of a Walt Disney World hotel room, but part of that premium is that the rooms are different than “ordinary” hotel rooms. Or at least, they should be.
With Beach Club, one of the best-themed resorts in all of Walt Disney World, I expected more.
The rooms are devoid of warmth, theme, and charm: the style is totally plain and nondescript, there aren’t any whimsical touches, and the new look isn’t an extension of the resort’s overarching theme.
In fairness, this is a criticism we have for many of the rooms at Walt Disney World. It’s very difficult to balance a themed environment with a modern feel and amenities in the rooms themselves.
However, Disney has done a much better job striking this balance with more recent new room stylings at Riviera Resort, Saratoga Springs, and Polynesian Village Resort.
Let’s turn to dining. There are several excellent restaurants on-site in every category except standard counter service with Beaches & Cream, Cape May Cafe, and Yachtsman Steakhouse (technically at the Yacht Club), putting it right up there with the best of the Deluxes in terms of quality restaurants.
That’s the good news. The bad news is that the counter service options at Beach Club (and all around Crescent Lake) leave a lot to be desired. We’ve managed to have success recently with Beach Club Marketplace, but it’s still a far cry from the options in World Showcase at Epcot or other food courts around Walt Disney World.
Our pro tip: in lieu of the counter service at Beach Club, head to Crew’s Cup Lounge, where you can get a delicious burger for about the price of a counter service meal. Much better food at a comparable price!
Another good option at Yacht Club is Ale & Compass Restaurant or its adjacent lounge. This is a fairly unpopular restaurant, meaning it’s relatively easy to score a last minute Advance Dining Reservation. While it’s design is a bit on the dull side, the food is very good!
Speaking of Crescent Lake, it should be noted that there are three other hotels within an incredibly short walk. Disney’s Boardwalk Inn doesn’t share amenities with the Yacht & Beach Club Resorts, but it’s so close that the restaurants there might as well count as Beach Club restaurants, too. Same goes for the Swan & Dolphin, and arguably even for the World Showcase restaurants.
If table service dining is going to be a highlight of a trip, staying at one of the Crescent Lake resorts is the best option. There are numerous dining options all within walking distance–including a couple of Signature Restaurants.
Walking from Beach Club to Disney’s Hollywood Studios takes around 15 minutes–maybe a tad longer if your room is closer to Epcot. However, you also have the option of taking the Disney Skyliner. That will take about the same amount of time, but the aerial gondolas are a much more pleasant way of getting there!
This distance to Epcot is another major benefit to staying at the Beach Club, as it’s only a 10 minute walk to the International Gateway from the grounds of the Beach Club.
Boat service is also available to both Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and generally takes just about the same amount of time as walking. It can be a little faster if you’re lucky, or a lot slower if there are long lines for the boats.
If you don’t mind walking, that’s by far your best option. For us, the ability to walk to both of these parks is huge. Disney bus transportation is unpredictable and often inefficient, so being able to avoid buses for two parks is a huge benefit.
The flipside is that bus transportation to Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom from Beach Club leaves something to be desired. There is always at least some sort of shared bus service operating, but exactly how many buses share the service depends upon the season.
We have had better bus service when staying at Pop Century for less than one-third the nightly rates of Beach Club. It’s disappointing that the Epcot-area Deluxe Resorts don’t offer better service in this regard than a Value Resort.
Of course, the main draw at Disney’s Beach Club Resort is Storm-Along Bay. I had salivated over this pool for some time before we finally stayed at the Beach Club, to the point that my expectations were probably impossibly high. It did not disappoint; in fact, it’s the #1 pool on my Top 10 Pools at Walt Disney World list.
For those unfamiliar with it, Storm-Along Bay is a sprawling pool complex 3 acres in size with sand at the bottom (for a while, I mistakenly thought “SAB,” the acronym used for Storm-Along Bay, stood for “Sand At Bottom”). Not only does it have sand at the bottom, but it also has a lazy river, an amazing water slide, great places for relaxing, and an excellent poolside bar.
Although it might seem like just a big pool with a dirty floor, in reality, it’s about the coolest thing ever. In fact, it’s so stellar that it cannot be adequately described without making up a new word. Storm-Along Bay is awesometubtacularnesszing!
Some people may tell you that some other pool at Walt Disney World is actually better, but unless that pool is called “Typhoon Lagoon” or “Blizzard Beach,” they are flat out wrong. Storm-Along Bay completely lives up to its hype, and is far and away the best hotel pool at Walt Disney World. It’s not even close.
One of our favorite splurges at Walt Disney World is doing a split stay (see our How to Do a Split Stay at Walt Disney World Hotels post) to take full advantage of Stormalong Bay and Club Level. Book a 1-night stay at Beach Club for the end of your trip and taking a late flight out on your last day. Alternatively, you could do that night in the middle of a three-resort trip, with a couple of relaxed resort days to decompress amidst your vacation. We describe the highlights of this strategy in our Stone Harbor Club Level Review.
Disney’s Beach Club Resort has many other amenities, including a health club, business center, babysitting, tennis courts, and other recreational facilities, but none of these measure up to Storm-Along Bay.
Overall, Beach Club scores highly for us because its theming perfectly conveys the relaxed feel of a seaside resort community, and this theming compliments a Walt Disney World vacation nicely. Like all of the Epcot-area resorts, Beach Club scores highly for its table service dining and convenience to Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. This location makes it the perfect place to stay during Epcot’s many festivals.
The biggest downside to Beach Club is its high nightly cost. Anyone wanting richly themed environments at Walt Disney World might also be disappointed by the guest rooms. Then there’s counter service dining, which is so-so at best all around Crescent Lake. Finally, commuting to the two “Kingdom” parks is another downside; guests who will be spending a lot of time at Magic Kingdom and don’t care much about a resort’s pool might want to think twice about Beach Club. Those who enjoy poolside relaxation, nice dining, and Epcot will likely agree with us that Disney’s Beach Club Resort is one of the top hotels at Walt Disney World!

Now that Disney is not giving out free magicbands, and presumably some guests will not have magicbands, does anyone know how Disney is going to check whether the guests in the pool area are actual Beach Club guests, and not guests from other resorts? I’m headed there in September 2021, and I’m just curious if the pool area will be more congested than usual because of this. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks!
But…the lobby. It’s so…please refurb me. Wanted to stay here forever. Waiting for a Lyft now to head back to Coronado from Epcot and…just, no. Maybe a decade ago. It needs…a new lobby.
We were here back in October of 2018 for 6 nights and it was amazing. However, we returned this past June 26th -June 30th 2019 and it was an awful experience. It was a lot of little things but considering we were there for only 4 nights those little things added up quickly. First let me start at the very beginning. We arrive at the hotel and they did give us a room right by the international gateway. It was a regular room and no villas around us. Also there was absolutely no construction the Gondola station is finished. So I still don’t understand why she lied to me and why she had to be so condescending but I let it go! After all we are at Disney and lets start the vacation. So we check in and they send us to room 3514. We walk in and there is no bedding on the bed and there is food on the counters and dirty robes on the floor. We waited about 15 minutes thinking house keeping would be back?? Then we called the front desk and they moved us to 3516 which I was glad because 3514 had a huge water stain in the corner of the wall. 3516 had a huge red stain in the carpet?? whatever. So we let that go and went to Animal Kingdom. We get their and 4 rides out of the 8 are down. Dinosaur, primeval whirl, Mt. Everest and its tough to be a bug. All have technical difficulties. So we have to forgo our fast passes because we couldn’t use them in Pandora and we already had a private Safari tour planned so that only left us with triceratops spin which we did ride. We then decided to eat lunch early. We ate lunch and needless to say we didn’t get to ride the rides that we wanted. Then that next night was Thursday and we had tickets to the Villains party and that was fun. However when we got back to the room it was 75. The AC wasn’t running. So we called the front desk and we had to beg for a fan and the maintenance men came up to our room about 3 am. They got it working and went on their way. However it was probably 3:30 by the time they left. At 10:15 am we had breakfast reservations at Cape May at the hotel this was Friday morning. It was my daughters first time at Disney and we were celebrating her high school graduation. She was tired and wanted to skip breakfast however she wanted us to bring something back. I asked the hostess and the waiter if I could pay for it and just feel a to go box with a mickey waffle some bacon and potatoes. Nope sorry we cant do that. They weren’t willing to help us at all. So instead of using a Table credit we had already prepaid for we had to order a hamburger from room service and pay over 40.00. She eats like a bird so I don’t understand why they couldn’t be more accommodating especially since we were up all night with no air. Then later that day we went to the pool. The girl scanning magic bands scanner wasn’t working so she wanted our room number which we gave her and then she was like well I am not sure if you are staying here but I guess I will let you in to the pool with a snarky tone. I’m sorry but when you are paying $500.00 a night I don’t want any attitude from people that work at the beach club but we ran into this attitude constantly. I don’t know if that is just the way it is in June or what but everyone was so kind in October so it was very strange to us and so disappointing. Then we went to beaches and cream at the hotel for Ice Cream. It was busy, but they did a good job of taking orders and getting people in and out. What upset us was they took our order and 4 other families that came in after us got their ice cream before us. I asked the girl at the desk like why are we not being served she said someone else was getting ours and I guess they were really slow or had to churn the cream because it was about 20 minutes after the families behind us got their ice cream that we got ours. Room service only came to our room once. Thank goodness I brought trash bags because we had a hug bag of trash by the time we checked out. I let them know we were celebrating our daughters graduation and asked if they could send something special up and they said they would but that never happened. No one ever acknowledged the celebration they didn’t even give us a celebration pin when we checked in. We had no magical moments the whole trip. My husband went down and complained and told them how disappointed we were in our stay at the Beach Club and asked if they would refund us for the ticket we weren’t going to use. After he explained everything that happened they stated they would refund us $386.00 for the unused ticket which to date we haven’t received. I am so upset we were looking to purchase DVC but now I don’t even want to go back to Disney. Considering it was my daughters first time and her graduation present it really just breaks my heart. The Disney goggles are off! There was more but had to leave out due to space.
Can a guest staying at a different Disney hotel use the Beach club pool?
No. Beach Club requires a wrist band or proof you’re staying at either the Yacht or Beach Club Hotel.
We just got back from staying at the Beach Club for a week. The best thing about this hotels is being able to walk easily to Epcot World Showcase. Rooms are just ok. We were near quiet pool but it was closed due to refurbishment. Boat service to Hollywood Studios suspended too which meant more bus rides. The pool was beautiful but not enough tubes to be able to enjoy the lazy river. We stayed at the Animal Kingdom lodge a few years back and it was a much better hotel.
The beach club sucks! Our room on the bottom floor was for handicap persons. We did not request that option. Through the paper thin adjoining room he heard everything coming out of the room next door. We went to bed at 10:00pm and the noise was so loud (as though they were in our room) that we finally got to sleep at 12:00pm and it started again at 6:00am. (Rm1633 & 1635) Great fun for the next morning with a pissed off sleepy kid! The kids club does not open till 5:00pm. Since we’re here for the Halloween special that option is out for couples wanting alone time during the day as we’ll be at the park from 7:00pm-12:00. The pool staff are horriable! Sat by the pool at a table and numerous staff members walked by to say Hi but never asked if we wanted something to drink. We made a game on how many could actually walk by and never take our order… We planned on spending lots of money but this staff helped us to save money. I travel 168 days a year. I’m a diamond member at every major American hotel. Disney hotels continue to suck for the seasoned travel and are great for the once a year family of travelers.
If you want Class and a real hotel then consider the Waldorf or Ritz hotels in Orlando. Shockingly after you pay Disney’s price you see there’s no massive difference in cost. However the quality and service is what you should receive when paying close to $600 per night.. I’m leaving today for the Waldorff and the front desk staff could not care less as “they are sold out tonight”!
People who complain about the BCV can just stay home! I guarantee they complain about everything in life. I love my BCV DVC we have gone to Disney 30 years in a row. We have stayed in CB, ALLSTAR, ART Of ANIM, and many more. It is by far the best in Disney all things considered . Beauty , pool , location, restaurants, if you base your stay about your time in your room you are going on the wrong vacation. The walk to Epcot is closer then the Bus drop off and the boat ride is nice and relaxing after a long day in the park. The buses to MK and AK are fine plus there’s a clock telling you when the next bus will arrive. Plus the buses are never crowded and the stop at the park is close to the front compared to value resorts pu spot. All and all will never trade out of the BCV for another stay somewhere else.
Therefore you mean you’ve been to the parks 30 times? Many of us who live in the state went to the parks more than 30 times just last year.
Disney runs this place for profit and their share holders don’t e left the 16% of “parks and resort” income to include service. Service cost money and by volume alone Disney doesn’t care. Most of their revenue now comes from “Media”. (26%). That almost double of parks and resorts. In fact if Disney was to get out of resorts then they would see a jump in revenue as their overall expense and liability would drop on the 16%.
So plan on poor service and a “don’t care, there are more that will take your place” attitude at their hotels.
Beach Club was a HUGE disappointment, as far as customer service. It was awful, I don’t think anyone ever smiled or was polite, except the captain that greets you at arrival.
They had no desire to help anyone and made me even dread going to talk with them. From the moment we checked in, it was one customer service disaster after another and they honestly dont care! We visit every june for 12 days, but Beach Club will not be a resort we return to.
Not worth it. Stayed club level and paid premium. The experience has not been good. The pool is best amenity and there are flaws to it. If you’re looking to stay premium club level go to the Polynesian. The manager/staff at the poly should train the beach club employees on how to make guests feel magical.
The resort looks wonderful! I have read a lot of good review about the resort as well. Here on your website too. My little cousins will be enjoying this resort I bet. The pool is incredible as well. But I think my auntie will be a lot more exited than my cousins! She just love Disney everything. But for me, I prefer somewhere private. Like a private villa. Maybe check us out to book your villa for the next vacation!
I agree as far as the Polynesian Viilage – been staying there for 40 years, However we are staying at the Beach Club in November strictly because we are going specifically fir the Epcot Food and Wine Festival – it’s just too convenient to pass up since we take a 5 minute walk to Epcot.
We stayed at Beach Club for a few days in August in their refurbished one bedroom villa.

Tom- Is there a big difference in staying at the beach club vs the villas? We are going in Aug with my mom who is in her early 70’s. Im worried abt her walking in the heat in the afternoons to and from the main pool. Are the villas a big walking distance to sab? They look fairly close but disney resorts tend to be “sprawling” and looks can be deceiving!
Love love the Beach Club resort and villas, absolutely our favorite!!! Last April we stayed in one of the newly renovated rooms on 4th floor at Beach Club resort. This room was fabulous, so much more than I expected. So beautifully decorated, was beautiful. It had 2 queen size beds and a sofa that pulled out to bed. So here’s my question….this room obviously slept 6 people, so why is this not advertised? This is huge for families that need that extra bed. Did we somehow get a “special” room? I want to stay again in one of these rooms, but would not be able to “legally” put 6 in there. Why is that???
Some rooms at the Beach Club and other Deluxe resorts sleep up to five guests. The sofa bed flips over into a twin-size bed.
Hi Tom! You’re site is wonderful! It’s my go-to for planning trips to wdw or when i just need my Disney fix. I would love to see the updated DVC villas at the Beach club. Please share some pictures and info if/when you get the chance. Will a much needed fresh face to the beach club villas upset your fancy bathroom, top seeded poly villas? Can’t wait to find out! Keep up the awesome work!
We are trying to get there soon. Stay tuned! 🙂
We just got back from a week long vacation at Disney. We stayed 3 nights at Yacht and 4 nights at Beach. We were supposed to go to Art of Animation after the Yacht club but loved the location of the resort and the pool and couldn’t bring ourselves to leave. There wasn’t any vacancy at Yacht so we went over to Beach. We stayed in a very recently updated room on the fourth floor. The check in lady said they had just renovated the room and she was right. You could still smell a faint trace of new paint. The room at beach was awesome. Couldn’t have been nicer and the renovations are beautiful. Room at Yacht was ok, clean and all but definitely needing an update. Like Tom said the pool area is awesome. It’s huge and I just can’t say enough about it. The location is awesome too. Less than ten minute walk to Epcot and about 20 to Hollywood Studios. I have to disagree about the buses. We never waited more than 15 minutes ever. Buses to MK and AK stopped at Yacht first and then Beach and then straight to the park. Same thing going home. Bus to DT Disney did make extra stop at Boardwalk but not on the way back. One thing to note is the bus stops at Yacht first so if you were like me and are lugging a double stroller I recommend catching it at Yacht so you ensure yourself space. But I had great experiences with bus system. I really didn’t see that much of a difference between Yacht and Beach other than the color scheme and the renovated room at Beach. My guess is that the rooms at Yacht will be renovated soon as well. I loved both resorts and can’t wait to go back. Can’t picture staying anywhere else it was that good.
Oh another question… club level vs villas??
My husband and I are thinking about going back the WDW to celebrate our 25th anniversary next year. I’ve been looking at hotels and I think the Beach Club is what I’m looking for. I LOVE the pool and the distance to the Boardwalk and Epcot!! I’m thinking about splurging and upgrading to a Club Level room… I would love some input!! I just want it to be extra special! I’m a planner and I do a lot of research before trips, for me it’s half the fun… the anticipation! But personal testimonials carry much more weight with me than books and articles. I welcome any input!! We are also planning to take the Backstage Magic tour, dine at Cinderella’s Royal Table (just because I’m DYING to go inside that castle!!) and eat at Be Our Guest! I’ve read lots of reviews that recommend California Grille during Wishes… Also, can anyone suggest rooms that will have a view of Epcot’s Illuminations show from our room?? I don’t know the layout of the resort, so I don’t know what to request… Thanks!!
I don’t think you’re going to have much of a chance at an IllumiNations view room from Beach Club. A lot of the rooms at BoardWalk Inn will have a view, but the orientation of Beach Club isn’t quite right for it. Perhaps some rooms on the end.
Club Level and the Villas aren’t really comparable. Villas are the Disney Vacation Club rooms–I’d probably go for Club Level if it came down to one or the other.
I am looking into booking a trip this August, I am staying at the BC, but want a lagoon view that is really nice, with if possible a view of the fireworks from Epcot…. any suggestions? I would not be opposed to a view of stormalong bay either, but whichever is nicer.
Thanks!
I think you will want to wait, as it is supposed to end up all torn up like the Polynesian is now. You will pay full price to stay in a construction zone.
Unfortunately we can’t agree that this is the best hotel in WDW. In fact we’ve found this to be the worst and for many reasons.
The location is superb and in this alone I could agree that the hotel is the best, but when you put in all the other factors this hotel falls short in so many other areas.
The hotel is tired and the rooms are appalling for a ‘deluxe’ hotel. They don’t even meet the standard of the moderate hotels. Items are broken (e.g. Taps) and the rooms look shabby. The customer service is so off compared to other hotels. The hotel is very noisy, it is a beach club and expect the music and movies to go on into the early hours. Do NOT have a room by the pool as it is open until 11pm and again is very noisy. Whilst the formal dining is good (quick dine less so) it is popular, even with non-residents, so expect it to be busy. Even with a reservation a 30 minute wait is normal.
Last problem is more serious. We had a fire alarm whilst staying. The staff had no idea what to do and had no training (confirmed by staff member). No checks were done on who had left the building and we we’re left to wander around the hotel. No assembly point was earmarked and no staff knew where it was. Health and safety clearly not part of their concern!
I also agree that Disney transportation from this hotel is awful. Walking to Epcot and HS is simple, but not great when there are storms. Unfortunately this also means that the boats stop. The alternative is his which does 5 hotels. Imagine the chaos. Buses to AK & MK are not much better and I have never seen queues like it for buses at any other hotels. 3 buses for MK needed to clear the queue one morning.
Will not stay here again and cannot recommend to anyone. How Disney can call this a deluxe resort I have no idea. It’s like staying at a cheap hotel in the Caribbean or Mediterranean.
