DuckTales World Showcase Adventure at Disney World
DuckTales World Showcase Adventure is an interactive game in EPCOT at Walt Disney World. Although suitable for all ages, the scavenger hunt is aimed at kids who might otherwise find “exploring” the international pavilions to be boring. It’s a great option to keep them interested, engaged, and (unintentionally) learn a thing or two about other countries!
For those who are unfamiliar with it, DuckTales World Showcase Adventure invites guests to join Scrooge McDuck, Donald, Huey, Dewey and Louie, Launchpad and Webby in search of priceless treasure as part of an interactive adventure throughout EPCOT’s World Showcase.
Using the Play Disney Parks mobile app, guests take a trip around the countries to discover exotic destinations, exciting mysteries, and maybe even a few thieves, villains and supernatural guardians of ancient artifacts. According to Walt Disney World, DuckTales World Showcase Adventure will be the next iteration of a popular interactive scavenger hunt around World Showcase guests have enjoyed for years as they experience the magic of possibility at EPCOT.
DuckTales World Showcase Adventure allows guests to use the Play Disney Parks app and join Scrooge McDuck, his nephews & friends as they travel around World Showcase on a quacky quest to find the 7 Plunders of the World, and return them to their rightful owners.
Several missions will be available to complete as part of DuckTales World Showcase Adventure in the following countries:
- China
- Mexico
- Norway
- Germany
- Japan
- France
- United Kingdom
Each country in EPCOT’s World Showcase has three assignments and one finale. Each mission will take approximately 25 to 30 minutes to complete.
Upon completion of each country’s mission, you’ll receive an achievement in the Disney Play App. When all countries are completed, you’ll unlock a playable finale mission.
Beyond this, it’ll be interesting to see whether DuckTales World Showcase Adventure has been modified in any way to incorporate MagicBand+ technology. Since it’s still happening, I’m going to go out on a limb and guess that this game was developed almost entirely before the March 2020 closure.
That’s really not much of a limb–DuckTales has concluded its run, so Walt Disney World wouldn’t have developed it from the ground up as a synergy play. It’s a near-certainty that this has just been shelved for a couple of years and was revived due to the sunk costs and the desire to give kids more to do in World Showcase.
With that said, adding MagicBand+ functionality would be an interesting move. It would be a value-add for those devices, which have not exactly received glowing reviews outside Batuu Bounty Hunters. (Even then, battery drain and lines are real issues.) It’s possible that the game could thoughtfully offer MagicBand+ integration, and even if it cost more in development costs, that investment could potentially be recouped in more MagicBand+ sales.
Since I’m openly speculating and randomly guessing, my prediction is that this will not happen–that DuckTales World Showcase Adventure won’t offer any meaningful MagicBand+ functionality. (Note: random lights blinking does not count as “meaningful” integration.)
DuckTales World Showcase Adventure will be the third incarnation of the World Showcase Adventure scavenger hunt, which was previously hosted by Agent P of Phineas and Ferb.
Unlike that version and its earlier Kim Possible predecessor, the DuckTales interactive adventure will revolve around the Play Disney Parks mobile app, and will leverage more modern mobile phones. The Phineas and Ferb version is fully voice acted and features simple animations, so it remains to be seen how the new DuckTales World Showcase Adventure game will work in the park.
Ultimately, I’m a lot less excited about DuckTales World Showcase Adventure than I was two years ago. That has absolutely nothing to do with the series ending–I don’t see any problem with delayed IP integrations like this. (To the contrary, I think sometimes it’s better for a show to conclude to make sure it’s quality from start to finish and has staying power.)
My diminished enthusiasm is more about how the park experience at Walt Disney World has changed as a whole since late 2019 or early 2020. In short, there’s a lot more screen time than there was “back in the day,” and this just adds to that.
There’s using Genie+ to book Lightning Lanes throughout the day, more Mobile Order, Mobile Check-Out, Walk-Up Waitlist, virtual queues, and more. I’m not complaining about all of these features–some of them are great improvements.
However, they amount to a lot more screen time in aggregate, and I don’t think anyone is taking trips to Walt Disney World to spend more time on their phones. In any case, I’m still curious about DuckTales World Showcase Adventure and hope that it’s a fun addition for kids and families. I just would be more enthused if the surrounding circumstances were different. Stay tuned, as we will keep you posted on everything we learn about Walt Disney World’s newest minigame.

we just did the DuckTales thing in Epcot yesterday and it was incredible! there were numerous interactive things and appearances by some of the ducktal characters and some of the storefronts as well as finale type displays such as the glockenspiel in Germany actually going off in the courtyard! so sorry for the spoiler but just wanted to plug to everyone that it is incredible. I agree it is time consuming but if you’re a fan of DuckTales it is worth your time. highly recommend!
25-30 min for each mission sounds very time consuming. I think it sounds fun but I don’t want waste that much time on it either. I will be interested in Tom’s review when this debuts. (I’m assuming, of course, that you will be completing this for “research.”)
Both my son and I are so excited this Duck Tales adventure is finally starting! Now if they just made Duck Tales Magic Bands….
i love Ducktales but the thing is that it makes other shows like Darkwing Duck feel underrated DW grow up with him i’m glad they’re making a reboot Alan Young okay actor but not as talented Jim Cummings who also voices Negaduck
I recall playing the old Kimpossible version with a much younger sibling and think it was fun and quasi-educational. My kids and husband watch duck tales together so we’ll probably attempt this for our New Year’s trip—but is it going to replace the hunt for Olaf’s holiday traditions? Not sure how long that stays up past Christmas, now that I think about it.
Will Snow White in Germany, Princess Aurora & Princess Belle in France, Princess Jasmine in Morocco, Mulan in China, Anna & Elsa in Norway, & Baymax in Japan, still be available for Character Meet & Greets in The Epcot World Showcase?
Technically, the Kim Possible version came out after the series was cancelled (okay, the first time), so this isn’t the first time that has happened.
I suppose I think this is a sideways move at worst. I don’t see that using my phone for this was any worse than using a different phone/Kimmunicators, so I put it in the category of reading on my phone versus pulling out the map or walking over to the time board. While most of those other things are replacing human interaction with technology, these things are just changing how you are reading what you’re reading.
My 12 year old is obsessed with Duck Tales and I loved it as a kid. I think this addition is amazing! Can’t wait to try it out.
Side note we just got back from a week trip and used the new magic bands for the first time…I don’t understand what the point of them was at all. They would randomly light up throughout the day and we could never figure out why. Half the time when we tried to get them to interact with something they were supposed to, they wouldn’t, and out of all 4 of us with bands not a single one of them lit up or did anything during the magic kingdom firework show. Lol. Definitely felt like a waste of money.
Thank’s for sharing your info. I’m taking my family to Epcot and MK for the Christmas party the week during Thanksgiving, and I really wanted to buy us the new bands so the kids (as well as us), can have extra fun. But if they aren’t interacting with much if anything, and aren’t even lighting up properly with the fireworks show, then what’s the point?
Nice, I loved Ducktales growing up- and my boys love the new show.
I love Duck Tales, Scavenger Hunts, & Epcot so all 3 together possibly for our trip the week after Thanksgiving is exciting! I don’t mind skipping the Candlelight Processional to play Duck Tales even if that is a hot take 🙂
My kid really enjoyed the Agent P adventure in World Showcase so sad to see that go. Duck tales was a favorite of mine from when I was a kid though. So I’m excited to give it a try. I assume some of the parts of the game that are physically built into the World showcase will be rethemed instead of building new things for the game.
I’m actually excited for this new adventure!! My kids never got into Phineas & Ferb or Kimpossible. I loved DuckTales when I was a little girl (I’m dating myself!) so this will be a walk down memory lane. Hoping it launches in early October before our trip!
My son and I came on a Facebook memory of us playing Agent P in the last couple days and I mentioned how fun it was. He is much older now (12ish then, 17 now) but I still think he and his brother (now 20) would go for it for nostalgia’s sake and because we love DuckTales. We’ll be there the week of Thanksgiving so I’m hoping it starts before then.
I enjoyed Ducktales (both versions – I was the right age the first time and my daughter the second) and I like the World Showcase games (only played Kimpossible a couple times) so I’m glad this is coming. It is a fun add-on to the World Showcase.
FINALLY! We enjoyed Agent P and Kim Possible, and as DuckTales fans we’re looking forward to it. Yes, it’s on the phone but is that substantially different from when they gave you a device? Guess we’ll find out!
just came to say the reboot of ducktales was criminally underrated and deserved more than just 3 seasons.
My son and I loved this show! Wish there were more seasons. It would have been great to have the game roll out while the show was still on as my son was obsessed with it…whereas I don’t think it’ll hold quite as much attraction now he hasn’t watched it for ages. I’m still looking forward to it though.
This x 100. The reboot series is fantastic.
