Guardians of Galaxy Cosmic Rewind Merchandise & Gift Shop

Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is now open at EPCOT, and debuting with it for the first time is the Treasures of Xandar gift shop outside the attraction’s exit. This post features photos inside and a look at merchandise available to purchase for Walt Disney World’s new Marvel thrill ride.

Before we get started, a couple plugs for other resources about this blockbuster addition to Walt Disney World. Experiencing the new ride is a bit complicated, so if you want to experience it (and you should!), check out our How to Ride Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind & Virtual Queue Speed Strategy to improve your chances of success for joining the free virtual queue.

Another alternative is buying line-skipping access via the Individual Lightning Lanes. Currently, that costs $17 per person, but it’ll drop after this weekend. Those posts explain each option, their pros & cons, and everything else you need to know. Suffice to say, do not just show up to EPCOT expecting to join the standby line–as there isn’t one.

We’ve already had the chance to experience Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind several times during previews. The one thing we have not had the chance to do (until today) is buy merchandise. The Treasures of Xandar souvenir shop had no ‘soft openings’ during the previews–it’s truly debuting for the first time today.

The Treasures of Xandar merchandise location is located outside Cosmic Rewind, meaning you encounter it after exiting the building and walking back towards the front of the attraction. This also means that it’s accessible without riding at all. dedicated to all things Guardians of the Galaxy. Treasures of Xandar sells several new product lines honoring the Guardians and their many intergalactic adventures.

As Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is expected to be somewhat popular…and because the Treasures of Xandar gift shop is really small…some of this merchandise will be sold elsewhere in EPCOT.

Items from the “Guardians of the Galaxy” collections, including a limited release of opening-day merchandise, are also available at Creations Shop.

In case you’re unfamiliar with it, Creations Shop is EPCOT’s main gift shop, located behind Spaceship Earth and directly across from Connections Cafe & Eatery. You’ll walk right past it on your way to Cosmic Rewind.

Given space constraints, it’ll likely be much, much easier to enter Creations Shop. (We don’t know how Disney is going to manage demand for the Treasures of Xandar throughout opening weekend, but it’ll surely have a line–either physical or virtual.)

Given how much of an issue this has been all around Walt Disney World for the last year, our sneaking suspicion is that the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind gift shop was not open during previews due to supply chain shortages.

It’s still difficult to find some 50th Anniversary items that have been out for months, and late shipments arrived for Halloween and Christmas months after those holidays ended.

We could be wrong–maybe Walt Disney World is holding back the souvenirs until the grand opening for some other reason, but that seems like the most plausible explanation to us gift the empty shelves everywhere.

On a positive note, this has started to improve in the last couple months–but still can be an issue with anything new. I guess we’ll know one way or the other if merchandise quickly sells out!

Anyway, let’s take a look at the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind merchandise collections, concluding with far and away my favorite of the bunch…

Guardians of the Galaxy: Heroes of Xandar Collection

What if the Guardians were actually rock stars? What kind of music would their hypothetical band play?

More importantly, would they perform live at any event venues on Earth? Those are life’s big questions that this merchandise line answers.

Inspired by the vintage concert merchandise of the 1980s, the Guardians of the Galaxy: Heroes of Xandar Collection imagines the gear and memorabilia fans would collect during the Guardians’ fictional intergalactic tour.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind – Honorary Guardians Collection

Ever dreamed about being an intergalactic outlaw? Here is your chance. After taking part in a thrilling chase across time and space on Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, you will earn the highly sought-after title of Honorary Guardian.

The Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind – Honorary Guardians Collection, which features the Honorary Guardian emblem and navy/gold colors, is the perfect way to celebrate your achievement in style.

Groot Through the Years Collection

Fans of the Guardians of the Galaxy movie franchise will remember the many life stages of Groot. The new Groot Through the Years Collection illustrates the sentient tree-like creature’s evolution from baby to adolescent to adult through a range of toys, home décor and children’s apparel.

(I’ll level with you: Groot is my least favorite Guardian. I know everyone loves Groot–and I did at first, too–but his gimmick got grating for me in the second film. Everyone saying “I am Groot” like it’s something clever hasn’t helped. Maybe I just hate fun?)

Guardians of the Galaxy: Through the Eyes of Quill Collection

From Walt Disney World’s official announcement about this product line: “Before he became known across the galaxies as Star-Lord, Peter Quill was an average American kid growing up in the 1980s. Peter even visited EPCOT as a child, snapping a photo in front of Spaceship Earth.

The Guardians of the Galaxy: Through the Eyes of Quill Collection is reminiscent of Peter’s younger years on Earth and his first trip to Walt Disney World, featuring the retro graphics and bold colors that were popular in the 1980s.”

Regular readers might be surprised to see a merchandise post, as this blog isn’t exactly known for its comprehensive coverage of collectibles. About the only thing I hate more than waiting on hold over the telephone is trying to navigate a crowded gift shop. (Actually, I hate the phone thing way, way more–if only because it always lasts longer.)

In any case, I absolutely adore this merchandise line, and it is the sole reason for the existence of this post–to applaud whoever came up with the idea. Every other piece of merchandise in the store could just as easily be sold in the Marvel aisle at Target. It’s fine if that’s your jam, but there’s nothing about it’s specific to Cosmic Rewind.

Not the case with the Guardians of the Galaxy: Through the Eyes of Quill Collection. Not only is this unique to the attraction, but it pays homage to Walt Disney World’s past. This line almost makes the whole, stupid “Peter Quill visited EPCOT Center and that’s how this ride fits the park!” conceit worth it. Almost.

Far and away my favorite item in the Guardians of the Galaxy: Through the Eyes of Quill Collection is the mug above.

As with the Starbucks mugs released last fall for Walt Disney World’s 50th Anniversary, this draws inspiration from classic EPCOT Center shopping bag from the 1980s.

Even though the new Cosmic Rewind mug lacks Figment, it makes up for that by also lacking Olaf and using a better color scheme that better replicates the original, iconic design.

We only buy merchandise now if it’s something practical that we’ll actually use–meaning we don’t purchase anything for display or that goes into boxes–the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind mug is the one thing I’ll end up purchasing. Not that you care.

I also like this sweatshirt and appreciate the commitment to the 1980s look, but it seems impractical for 90% of guests. Then again, they probably only have enough inventory for 2.3% of guests–the impracticality might be a feature, not a bug.

Regardless, I hope this becomes available in normal or hooded sweatshirt form down the road. (Or even as a t-shirt, given the realities of Florida weather.)

This fanny pack is also pretty cool.

For the record, I’ve been trying to “bring back” fanny packs for years. Sarah says I look like a dorky tourist when I wear one, unlike the kids these days who wear them in odd ways that are somehow hip. In my defense, I am a dorky tourist. My desire to stay cool by chasing trends wore off a long time ago. Again, not that you care.

Anyway, lots of souvenirs…some of it is just garden variety Guardians of the Galaxy stuff that’s easily interchangeable with cheaper products you could purchase on shopDisney, Amazon.com, or wherever Marvel merchandise is sold. There’s probably demand for that stuff, so I get why Walt Disney World is selling it even if it does absolutely nothing for me.

Then there’s the Guardians of the Galaxy: Through the Eyes of Quill Collection. This is unequivocally awesome, and anyone who doesn’t like this selection of souvenirs simply lacks taste. 😉 Sorry to be so blunt about it, but the design of these items is seriously good, weaving together 1980s style, OG EPCOT Center, and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. It’s the perfect marriage of old and new, and like the attraction itself, a love letter to a bygone era of the park.
