Rainy Night In The Magic Kingdom
We wanted to try something new with this post, a photo essay covering a rainy night in the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World. My favorite political commentator and philosopher is Bill Watterson, author of Calvin & Hobbes. A lot of the Calvin & Hobbes Sunday pieces ran with only drawn frames and not a single word. These were some of the most poignant of all of his strips.
A book published of the strips, entitled The Calvin and Hobbes Lazy Sunday Book, gave me the idea for today’s post. I thought it might be neat to see if I could tell a story without using my normally verbose style (even though I have sort of failed this task already with this introduction of the concept), in photo essay form.
With that in mind, here is “Rainy Night in the Magic Kingdom.”
That’s it for our rainy night in the Magic Kingdom!

Your Thoughts…
What did you think of this photo essay? Have you had your own fun rainy days at Walt Disney World? We love to hear from readers, so if you have any thoughts or questions, post them in the comments!
Love the firework castle shots…just gorgeous! Would love to see more of the boardwalk area…can’t wait for more!
I like it! The photos are great and I love rain, while most others seem to dislike the disruption it causes. I think the rain photos are glorious and they tell a nice story even without words!
Love it! Would definitely like to see more posts in the Lazy Sunday category.
Given the resounding success (in views and comments), we’re definitely going to be making this a weekly category. Thanks for the feedback, everyone!
Tom,
LOVE this idea… I often see “Wordless Wednesday” on blogs I frequent, which is exactly the same as your “Lazy Sunday”. That said, yes, I enjoy all photos posts just as much as story posts…. and since yours is all about Disney, that adds MICKEY BAR points… :O)~
Thanks for sharing….
Stacy
I’ve seen Wordless Wednesday–aren’t those usually one photo? The goal here is to actually tell a continuing story through a series of photos. It wasn’t much of a story this time (it was raining, the rain stopped and the fireworks were shown, and afterward we took photos!), but my goal is for better “stories” through the photos in coming weeks.
These pictures are great. I also like your dining reviews! With so many dining options, it’s nice to narrow the choices a little. Especially when you often have to make reservations so far in advance.
So I definitely enjoy the pics, but actually use the information you post for planning! That said, a Sunday afternoon nap should definitely take priority over blogging. That’s the best sleep all week!
Thanks! We have a long way to go to round out the dining and resort reviews (there are A LOT in the pipeline), but it’s nice to mix it up, too. Our goal is to have every WDW and DLR restaurant reviewed by the end of 2012. There are still some at which we have to eat, so it’s going to be tough.
I love your photos. I love looking at photos (I tend to steer away from threads that lack them…however your writing is fun to read). Looking at pictures takes me to a place I am far away from that I miss and want to return to desperately. I am going through Disney Withdrawals something fierce and just looking at your photos make me smile and tide me over til I can go again. So I like the variety you are experimenting with on your blog. Keep the pictures coming!
I also like this. You have so many beautiful photos, but they are only organized by specific park. I like the idea of you showing us a story through a couple photos that have a common theme, such as a rainy day at MK.
Keep up the good work. It doesn’t go unappreciated.
I absolutely love this post! I agree, the more pictures the better! And I love the idea of letting us form the story from the pics once in awhile. Also, these are some great rainy day shots. 🙂
Just love your work! Love this blog!
Long pause (after all it’s LAZY SUNDAY)! Haha! I like this post….and the photos to go with it. Although, I like reading your stories with your photos.
Lazy sundays are the best!
A good story doesn’t need words.
Remember the first ten minutes of UP?
Keep up the good work!
While I like reading your posts when you mix words and photos, I dig this format and like it as a mix-it-up feature. The photos tell their own story (as good photos do) and anything to get more glimpses of the magic is great with most of us!
Blogs can be draining…hopefully this can keep you fresh as well. Keep it up.
Personally, I visit this site to enjoy your impishness, waggery, and witty repartee, and also in hopes of seeing you wear your Figment hat again. Therefore, any post that lacks those components is bound to disappoint. At the same time, your photographs are stunningly beautiful, and, if willing to expend the extra effort, I can always make up my own story to go with them. I usually spend Sundays with my good friend Mary Jane, sitting around and not doing much, so I think you are entitled to the same rest and relaxation. Let us know how it works out for you.
I love this post! You definitely can tell a story with only those pictures – I love rainy nights in the kingdom.
Your pictures are what brought me to this blog and anytime we get more pictures it’s a good thing.
I enjoy all your different types of posts like trip reports and dining and resort reviews. Keep up the great work glad there are fellow disney freaks out there like me. Looking forward to your next coast to coast entry.
I would normally give some feedback but I am just too “Lazy” today.
I love posts with a different theme and this one is great! Rainy days are always met with a sad face yet when I look back on my trips some of my fondest memories were when it was raining outside. Rain sometimes forces us to change our plans and that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
Glad you two like it! Anyone else? Negative or positive, I like to hear it all!
I’m all for any posts that feature more of your photos. They inspire me to spend more time improving my photography skills. Thanks for all your work here & on Touring Plans.
