Open & Closed Restaurants at Disneyland

This list of open & closed in-park restaurants at Disneyland and Disney California Adventure, plus hotel dining at the Grand Californian, covers what’s operating post-reopening, what’s temporarily unavailable, and why. This is updated regularly, with info on what’s coming soon and more.

The good news is that as of January 2022, every single major restaurant has reopened at Disneyland Resort (with one exception, which is actually a permanent closure). Dining has improved by leaps and bounds since the parks reopened last summer.

The bad news is that the vast majority of Disneyland Resort restaurants still do not have full menus. Most serve about half of the options they offered pre-closure, and it’s often the more ambitious and labor or ingredient intensive items that have been removed. In other words, if you want standard theme park fare like burgers or pizza, you’re fine. The more interesting stuff—along with many unique snacks—remain temporarily unavailable. So check menus before you commit!

On top of that, Mobile Order return times can be hours into the future, and wait times upon arrival can be quite lengthy on busier days. Avoid this by placing your Mobile Orders via the Disneyland app early in the day while waiting in line for an attraction. Modify later to push back your pickup time (sometimes you can also move it forward). Also be mindful that tables can be in short supply during peak dining hours, which is especially relevant if you want one of the limited outdoor tables in the shade.

When your return window opens, hit the “I’m Here, Prepare My Order” button before actually arriving at the restaurant. The wait between hitting that button and receiving your food will typically be between 10 and 45 minutes, depending upon crowds and staffing. Yes, that’s a wide range–but one that can be frustrating if you’re on the outer bound of it.

Our recommendation is to hit the button and do atmospheric activities in that same land or general area while waiting for the notification that your order is ready. Enjoy character greetings, exploring hidden corners of the land…don’t get into a 90 minute line for Space Mountain or another popular ride.

Additionally, reservations for in-park restaurants at Disneyland and Disney California Adventure are available, but very limited. Due to ongoing staffing shortages, most locations aren’t seating every table, and the result is that reservations can be difficult to score. We recommend booking early and checking back for cancellations if you can’t find availability when you first try.

We’ve had considerable difficulty booking Carthay Circle Restaurant, Carnation Cafe, Blue Bayou, and several other restaurants–even 60 days in advance. This never used to be a problem, but is an issue now due to an imbalance of supply and demand. Hopefully it’s resolved in early 2022 as Disneyland continues to hire more Cast Members!

Ultimately, it’s great to see the list of “open” restaurants continue to grow, while the “closed” lists shrink. At this point, the far bigger deal is the incomplete menus and Mobile Order wait times. Even those things are starting to get resolved, which is great.

This is all happening at a much faster pace than Walt Disney World’s phased reopening, which is unsurprising. The Florida parks opened last summer in a totally different environment, and that operation is considerably larger and more complex. Nevertheless, it’s great to see Disneyland Resort approaching “normal” much sooner. Stay tuned for future updates!
