Open & Closed Restaurants at Disneyland
This list of open & closed in-park restaurants at Disneyland and Disney California Adventure, plus hotel dining at the Grand Californian, covers what’s operating post-reopening, what’s temporarily unavailable, and why. This is updated regularly, with info on what’s coming soon and more.
The good news is that as of January 2022, every single major restaurant has reopened at Disneyland Resort (with one exception, which is actually a permanent closure). Dining has improved by leaps and bounds since the parks reopened last summer.
The bad news is that the vast majority of Disneyland Resort restaurants still do not have full menus. Most serve about half of the options they offered pre-closure, and it’s often the more ambitious and labor or ingredient intensive items that have been removed. In other words, if you want standard theme park fare like burgers or pizza, you’re fine. The more interesting stuff—along with many unique snacks—remain temporarily unavailable. So check menus before you commit!
On top of that, Mobile Order return times can be hours into the future, and wait times upon arrival can be quite lengthy on busier days. Avoid this by placing your Mobile Orders via the Disneyland app early in the day while waiting in line for an attraction. Modify later to push back your pickup time (sometimes you can also move it forward). Also be mindful that tables can be in short supply during peak dining hours, which is especially relevant if you want one of the limited outdoor tables in the shade.
When your return window opens, hit the “I’m Here, Prepare My Order” button before actually arriving at the restaurant. The wait between hitting that button and receiving your food will typically be between 10 and 45 minutes, depending upon crowds and staffing. Yes, that’s a wide range–but one that can be frustrating if you’re on the outer bound of it.
Our recommendation is to hit the button and do atmospheric activities in that same land or general area while waiting for the notification that your order is ready. Enjoy character greetings, exploring hidden corners of the land…don’t get into a 90 minute line for Space Mountain or another popular ride.
Additionally, reservations for in-park restaurants at Disneyland and Disney California Adventure are available, but very limited. Due to ongoing staffing shortages, most locations aren’t seating every table, and the result is that reservations can be difficult to score. We recommend booking early and checking back for cancellations if you can’t find availability when you first try.
We’ve had considerable difficulty booking Carthay Circle Restaurant, Carnation Cafe, Blue Bayou, and several other restaurants–even 60 days in advance. This never used to be a problem, but is an issue now due to an imbalance of supply and demand. Hopefully it’s resolved in early 2022 as Disneyland continues to hire more Cast Members!

Ultimately, it’s great to see the list of “open” restaurants continue to grow, while the “closed” lists shrink. At this point, the far bigger deal is the incomplete menus and Mobile Order wait times. Even those things are starting to get resolved, which is great.
This is all happening at a much faster pace than Walt Disney World’s phased reopening, which is unsurprising. The Florida parks opened last summer in a totally different environment, and that operation is considerably larger and more complex. Nevertheless, it’s great to see Disneyland Resort approaching “normal” much sooner. Stay tuned for future updates!

Thanks for the update! Do you need reservations for every restaurant at the park now? Or are some of the restaurants available for walk in seating? Love the Pluto picture! 🙂
Pluto covering your faces with his huge paws is just hilarious!!
They could definitely use as many restaurants open as possible — when I was there, people were constantly being turned away from the doors at many table service restaurants. However, they were able to seat a lot more walk-ups than I’d have guessed!
I did ask for a bayou-side table at Blue Bayou and was told they were only seating to first-available tables regardless. Nicely though, they did manage a waterside table for me.
I heard that Los Angeles county may be returning to indoor mask mandates here soon though, so I am curious to see what impact that might have on restaurants…
Thanks for the update, but I have to wonder just what Disney is doing. I just got word that they are permanently closing Steakhouse 55 in the Disneyland hotel – (Best steak I ever had 6 years running), sadly I just recommended it to a friend of mine the other day – who knew. I visited Disneyland about a month before they shut down and things were a mess then. I ate at the Golden Horseshoe, the entertainment was dueling pianos (it was bad and sad). They have gone from Billy Hill and the Hillbillies to Laughing Stock to Dueling pianos. I also see the Carnation Cafe is not open, another favorite place I like to eat at. I also noticed that the Blue Bayou is now serving Monte Cristo sandwich for 29.00 while Cafe Orleans sells their Monte Cristo sandwich to 21.00 not sure what the difference is, but I am sure I will find out. It just makes me wonder what they are thinking, but at least they are finally open – Yea!!!
Well that was disappointing. I just spent about 40 minutes in a waiting room to make dining reservations for Disneyland this morning, and I’m still unable to make a reservation for any date in July…with the odd exception of Cafe Orleans and River Belle. I’ve been refreshing every morning for the past week and nothing else has opened up, and have sent two emails to Disney about it with no response. It’s just been weird and frustrating…
I’ve noticed (and confirmed with others) that dining reservations currently stop at June 28th and haven’t been expanded to include dates after this…which is interesting because ’60 days out’ right now is July 9th. I don’t know if they’re moving to a new booking window (50 days?) or if they’re just holding until May 18th to release all of the reservations, but if they’re holding then it’s going to turn the 18th into something of a drop day. You’d think they’d try to avoid that situation, with historical precedent proving how well their website can handle an influx of people trying to use it at the same time…but now it looks like I’ll get to experience it for myself. Yay?
Just a heads up, Rancho Del Zocalo is an expanded break area for cast members. One big issue is that break rooms all had to expand significantly due to physical distancing requirements. Launch Bay is also a massive break room now. It might be possible that some other locations have similarly been turned into temporary break spaces for cast.
Thanks for the reminder. I loved seeing the talking dinosaur for less than one minute. I miss him, and I want him to be real.
Carthay was not available for any of my dates, but is that because it’s the lounge only (which pre-closure was a walk-up)? I snagged a Lamplight just in case, but I’m excited about the new virtual queue for the upper deck. Also got a Cafe Orleans, because what the heck, I guess.
All the times were like 4 and 8 for dinner, nothing in between. Garbage. Nonetheless, I’ve a couple options for me and Gav.
I don’t think any of these locations (at least at Disneyland) will be serving breakfast when they reopen – at leas they don’t have any breakfast options of the menus currently posted. I find that odd.
Appreciate your continued coverage of Disneyland which is more difficult because you’re no longer locals there. I’m very tentatively planning a 2022 visit which could easily turn into a 2023 visit depending upon my personal situation. While the particulars of the current Disneyland situation will have changed, some of them will no doubt linger and I’m less familiar with these Parks than with the ones in Florida, so more to learn.
thank you for including the “closed” lists too.
the previous list I had seen only had what was open,
and was hard to figure out what was closed.
Just checking…did you make a change to the blog format? I’m seeing a lot more white space around some photos and at the top of the main blog scroll.
Groot Heads!!
Weird that Bayside Brews would be on the closed list, when Hollywood Lounge and the Karl Strauss cart will both be open apparently? Bayside was always the more popular beer stop, even though, in my opinion, their selection was ho-hum compared to the above two. This might redirect some volume to those and I was hoping people would continue to sort of not know about Hollywood Lounge, being tucked away in the corner and all.
Also I was under the impression alcohol would only be served with food purchases, so I’m guessing those stands are now in the pretzel business (I hope I am wrong about all of this, I can only eat so many Groot heads).
It’s understandable that dining options would be reduced if park capacity is also reduced, but it’s still a bummer to have some favorites on the closed list.
