Hauntingly Good Disney Halloween Merchandise!

There’s a ton of scarily superb Halloween merchandise from Disney, but it’s not being sold at Walt Disney World or Disneyland. Instead, there’s a HUGE Halloween Disney Shop on Amazon, most of which is being sold at significantly lower prices than what you’ll find in the parks! (Updated October 15, 2023.)

I’ve gotta admit that I don’t love a lot of the Halloween merchandise in the parks. For one thing, everything is just stupidly expensive. I won’t pay full price for high-quality shirts from mall brands or designers, so I’m certainly not about to drop $35 on a low-quality shirt at Walt Disney World.

It’s not just that the in-park apparel offers Walmart quality at Ralph Lauren prices. Much of it is also ugly. I swear that about half the time I pick up a shirt that looks good at first blush, closer inspection reveals that the designers got carried away and added one graphic too many. Very few things are simple or understated–most is dialed up to 11.

Basically, so much Walt Disney World merchandise has similar stylistic sensibilities of ugly Christmas sweaters, but minus the charm and self-awareness. There’s just a lot going on, with chaotic looks that don’t always stick the landing. (But sometimes do! Over the top can work, and nowhere is better for loud designs than a theme park!)

With all of that said, please don’t take my clothing critiques seriously. If you’ve seen photos of me, so you I am not exactly a fashionista. To the contrary, I usually dress like someone who is in desperate need of the help from What Not to Wear. See below:

Anyway, most of these items below are not being sold on shopDisney.com, in the parks at Walt Disney World, or anywhere else. You can tell I’m being sincere with these picks based on the total absence of Nightmare Before Christmas merchandise. (In fairness, as compared to most of the in-park products, there are some NBC items that are not hideous on Amazon.) Anyway, let’s start with the crowd-pleaser that should go on EVERY LAWN IN AMERICA this Halloween…

Haunted Mansion Hitchhiking Ghosts Inflatable Lawn Decor – This is literally the coolest Halloween inflatable scene that I have ever seen. It’s not as good as the gigantic skeleton from Home Depot, but it’s up there! 

Sadly, I’ve been “banned” from buying more inflatables for a while now after one fateful post-Christmas clearance shopping spree at Target. So please enjoy these on my behalf, and allow me to live vicariously through your yards! 

Minnie’s Sweet Spells & Be-Witching Bites Halloween T-Shirt – This shirt, along with the next few, are all on sale as of mid-October 2023. 

Even though these aren’t technically Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party merchandise, they have a very similar vibe–and character models for Minnie Mouse, Mickey Mouse, and others.  

Sanderson Sisters Hocus Pocus Shirts – In my meaningless opinion, the vast majority of Hocus Pocus shirts that Walt Disney World sells in the parks are way over the top. This designer is the exact opposite of that, with a bunch of tasteful and restrained designs.

This retro ‘concert poster’ look is the most overt of the styles, and it’s also really clever. I also like the Sanderson Witch Museum shirt in the top row.

Mickey’s Halloween Trick or Treat Candy Co. T-Shirt – For ages, we purchased shirts every year for both Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. The last time I bought one at either event was 4 years ago at MVMCP. Since then, they’ve all either been too expensive or too busy. 

I love that this shirt has an elaborate design but doesn’t have too much going on. (There are also similar styles for Daisy and Minnie Mouse.) To me, this also evokes Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party without specifically mentioning it. (I also like that it doesn’t have a year. It’s “cool” to wear party shirts from a decade ago once they’ve become retro, but ~4 years ago just kinda feels tired. Sorry, I don’t make the rules!)

Mickey and Friends Halloween Retro T-Shirt – All of the above also applies here, and this design is arguably even better. (I like it more.) It features the Sensational Six all with retro character models, which I love, along with great costumes.

There’s a lot going on here, but it’s all in a single graphic that’s laid out well and looks great. This would literally be perfect if it said “Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party” below the characters in retro ‘monster’ font, but I’m pretty satisfied with this shirt as-is. 

Loungefly Mick-O-Lantern – Obviously, this isn’t for me and I’ve been critical of past Loungefly products. However, I also appreciate clever products when I see them, and this definitely fits the bill. Kudos to the design team on this one.

Super cool, great reviews, and good-looking user-submitted photos. Perfect for Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party…or any Halloween event! This Mickey Pumpkin Loungefly bag is even cheaper–although not quite as cool (IMO). 

5-Minute Halloween Stories – Twelve not-so-scary stories that contain a bit of suspense but ultimately have happy endings.

Mickey’s Halloween – Join Mickey and the rest of the Clubhouse gang in this ghostly tale, with 40 flaps to peek under in this oversized board book that’s full of all sorts of tricks and makes the perfect Halloween treat for your little one.

Disney Mickey Mouse Dracula – This book is bonkers–the less you know going in, the better. Regardless, a very clever way to faithfully adapt this story (well, to the extent possible) while keeping it family-friendly. In addition to the zany story substitutions, this book also has great illustrations!

Hocus Pocus Spellbook – Fans of the annual Halloween favorite, Hocus Pocus will love this enchanting title featuring spells, potions, witch history, and more! Full of magical of illustrations, comments from Winnie, Mary, and Sarah, and more, this beautiful book is a must-have accessory for any want-to-be Sanderson sister and the perfect gift for Hocus Pocus fans of any age.

My First Bedtime Halloween Storybook – Featuring Mickey, Winnie the Pooh, and all more Disney favorites, this collection of Halloween tales is perfect for bedtime, story time, or any time at all.

Disney Princess Sweet & Spooky Stories – It’s Halloween and the Disney Princesses are celebrating this sweet and spooky season! Cinderella carves pumpkins, Ariel dresses up in costume, and Belle explores the creepy corners of the Beast’s castle in this 24-page storybook featuring all-new illustrations.

Legend of Sleepy Hollow Little Golden Book – Experience the story of the Headless Horseman from Disney’s classic film The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad again and again with this Little Golden Book! After moving to the small village of Sleepy Hollow, superstitious schoolmaster Ichabod Crane hears the tall tale of The Headless Horseman, a ghost haunting the nearby woods. But is this just a story?

Hocus Pocus and the All-New Sequel – Unlike the other books on the list, this one is aimed at young adults. I don’t know anything about it, but reviews are very positive.

The Haunted Mansion Little Golden Book — Disney Parks started doing this new line of Little Golden Books last year, and they have been crushing it so far. While we definitely aren’t the target audience for the stories, we absolutely adore the art and style—they’re great for anyone with kids, theme park fans, or anyone who was a kid and has fond memories of Little Golden Book.

If you don’t already it, the Haunted Mansion Picture Book is another must-own. Beautiful illustrations. 

The Haunted Mansion: Imagineering a Disney Classic – Speaking of must-own books, this is an incredibly detailed and well-written book that covers the Haunted Mansion attractions in all of the worldwide parks inside and out. If you want a better appreciation of this iconic attraction and what went into it that has made it stand the test of time, this book is for you.

Boundless Realm: Deep Explorations In Haunted Mansion – If you read the book above and still find yourself wanting to know more, this is the truly deep and academic dive into Haunted Mansion. It covers everything you could possibly want to know about Disney’s iconic Haunted Mansion, from history to artistic critique. It’s a truly comprehensive and deep dive, probing American history, popular culture, and folklore, to examine why Haunted Mansion is the definitive haunted house.

Haunted Mansion: Call of The Spirits Board Game – I’m a total sucker for cheesy and cheeky board games, as well as Walt Disney World board games. This is the perfect intersection of those interests.

It’s a fairly strategic game that’s easy enough for kids but also deep enough for adults. Our one warning here is that the instructions are a bit confusing, but there are several superior YouTube videos that break it down in easy-to-understand terms.

Funko Disney Hocus Pocus Tricks & Wits Card Game – It’s The Kids versus The Witches as you play tricks to get to the ghastly spellbook before the Black Flame Candle burns out! Team gameplay is perfect for any age, no matter skill or experience in this quick-turn game. 

Hocus Pocus: The Game – Another board game for your Halloween gatherings. In this, players work together to protect Salem’s children and stop the Sanderson sisters from completing their wicked potion before the sun rises. Play potion ingredients to the cauldron and match all the colors or ingredients.

Villainous Disney Strategy Board Game – This Halloween-adjacent game is hugely popular and the winner of several prestigious ‘Game of the Year’ awards. We aren’t as big of villains fans as others, but it’s undeniably good (to be bad?).

Hocus Pocus 3D Sculpted Mug – This mug is in the shape of a cauldron with a handle shaped like a broom, and Binx sitting on top of the broom featuring the Sanderson Sisters.

There are several other Disney coffee mugs available. The Haunted Mansion one is more my speed, but it’s not as cool and creative as the Hocus Pocus one.

Haunted Mansion Pillowcases – Perfect for a festive living room overlay, these are a great way to add festive fun to your furnishings. Now you just need a burnt orange or forest green sofa to really complete the look!

Minnie Mouse Jack-o’-Lantern Halloween T-Shirt – This one is simple and sweet, reminiscent of the iconic Mickey Mouse lamppost pumpkins on Main Street, but with Minnie. (There’s also a Mickey Mouse version of this shirt for men/Mickey fans.)

Speaking of variations, all of these shirts are available in multiple colors, including black. I’m choosing to showcase the alternatives because it seems like 95% of Halloween shirts are black. For those of us *ahem* with light-haired pets, black clothing is a non-starter!

Mickey Mouse Icon Candy and Pumpkins Halloween T-Shirt – While I prefer the pumpkin head look above, here’s another simple-but-fun look featuring candy in the shape of Mickey Mouse’s head. 

There are also family variations of this for those who want matching shirts.

Retro Mickey Mouse Mummy Halloween Sweatshirt – Simple and sweet, with the classic ‘Mickey Stands’ style repurposed as a mummy for Halloween. It’s one of the few designs available as a sweatshirt, which is perfect for the half of the country where it’s cold this time of year.

This or the hooded sweatshirt version is the one to get if you’re doing Oogie Boogie Bash–it gets cold in California at night this time of year! For Floridians (or those wearing this on Walt Disney World trips), it’s also available as a t-shirt. For an ‘in-between’ option, there’s this raglan baseball tee. If you’re more of a Minnie person, there’s this sweatshirt featuring Minnie Mouse as a flying witch.

Baby Yoda Happy Halloween Pumpkin T-Shirt – Grogu has replaced his hovering pram pod with a pumpkin. Classic Baby Yoda, that rascal! It’s not something I’d wear, but I like the look. 

I wish the pumpkin were more of a play on the pram, but it’s still cute. This shirt with Baby Yoda wearing various costumes also cracks me up.
