Sherwood Garden Restaurant Buffet Review

Sherwood Garden Restaurant is a buffet at Tokyo Disneyland Hotel. This is one of the best Disney buffets anywhere, and it’s a great option for those with “westerner” appetites wanting a high-quality and good-value option. Our review covers why, and includes food photos.

In terms of pricing, Sherwood Garden Restaurant is about $40 to $50 depending upon whether you do lunch or dinner, with fluctuations in the exchange rate also impacting pricing. That makes it around $10-20 more expensive than the Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea buffets, but around the same price as Oceano (in Hotel MiraCosta).

Part of the premium pricing is due to some premium items on the buffet. Another part is a result of its location in a hotel that charges an upwards of $500/night for rooms. I don’t think you can totally attribute the price to either–it’s a mix of both. Whether that surcharge is worth the money is largely a matter of personal preference and how much of “the fancy stuff” you’ll eat.

Ambiance-wise, Sherwood Garden is somewhat reminiscent of Crystal Palace, a restaurant at both Walt Disney World and Tokyo Disneyland. This shouldn’t come as a huge surprise since Tokyo Disneyland Hotel embraces a similar Victorian design and airy color palette. It’s sufficiently distinct, with a more elegant atmosphere befitting the luxury hotel setting.

While it’s definitely more refined of a locale than Crystal Palace, this is still very much a casual, family-friendly restaurant. You’ll see nicely dressed hotel patrons, but you’ll also see a family of Duffy plushes each with their own chairs here. All of this is to say you don’t really need to worry about what you wear–this is no Victoria & Albert’s (or any Grand Floridian restaurant, for that matter).

I wouldn’t dine at both Crystal Palace and Sherwood Garden on the same visit to Tokyo Disney Resort. Not only are they similar in ambiance, but that shared aesthetic is not exactly the pinnacle of theme.

As for the cuisine, you’re going to find a lot of seafood–and high quality seafood, at that. Really, though, all of the food at Sherwood Garden is exceptionally high quality. I waiver back and forth as to whether this or Sailing Day Buffet is my favorite…

Salmon, calamari, white fish, and numerous other varieties are all on the buffet. Without question, you are going to get the most mileage out of this buffet if you enjoy seafood.

To be sure, there is also poultry and beef on the buffet. In our visits to Sherwood Garden Restaurant, this meats have all been really well-prepared.

You’ll note that I’m not really listing anything in particular, and that’s because Sherwood Garden Restaurant has a true seasonal menu. I’ve dined here in the summer and fall, and there was very little overlap between the two menus.

One of the highlights of all Tokyo Disney Resort buffets is an abundance of fruit. This may seem like an odd thing to mention, but fruit is expensive everywhere in Japan (not just in the parks). We usually take advantage of our buffet meals to eat a good amount of fruit so our bodies can stockpile whatever nutrients fruit supposedly provide.

I also make sure to have plenty of desserts, so my body can also stockpile those important nutrients. Although my body probably doesn’t need to “stockpile” dessert-nutrients since I eat a surplus of desserts for literally every meal. Better safe than sorry, though…

In my experience, the desserts at Sherwood Garden Restaurant have been exceptional.

Desserts here are completely seasonal, so it does no good to detail what I’ve tried. One thing I have noticed is the complexity of these desserts. On a lot of Disney buffets, you’ll find simple fare that, while decadent and delicious, isn’t anything elaborate.

By contrast, Sherwood Garden has what I’d call “bakery quality” desserts, some of which are individually made. The cotton candy ice cream above was the made-to-order (there’s always one made-to-order dessert at Sherwood Garden) summer-time dessert, and it was ridiculous. I’m pretty sure they laced this with some sort of drug, because it was addictively good. The Cast Member laughed on my 5th trip up for this, when I just dropped all pretenses, and ordered 2 for myself.

Overall, Sherwood Garden Restaurant is easy to recommend, especially if you have a big appetite and enjoy seafood or desserts. In terms of cuisine, Sherwood Garden Restaurant is arguably the top buffet at Tokyo Disney Resort. Really, though, they are all good, and my favorite in large part hinges on what each of them are serving during any given season (usually my top pick is this or Sailing Day Buffet–we do the latter on every trip now). The only real downsides here are price and theme. Thematically, it is one of the least exciting restaurants at Tokyo Disney Resort; consequently, I wouldn’t recommend it to a first-timer visitor or someone doing a short trip, but if you get your thematic fill elsewhere, Sherwood Garden Restaurant is a strong option.

It covers much more than the parks, from getting there to WiFi to currency and much, much more.
