Summer & Fall 2022 Disneyland Ticket Deal for Californians

Disneyland is offering a new multi-day ticket deal for California residents for Summer & Fall 2022. This post shares info & details about the limited-time offer, plus commentary about the intersection of this promo and returning entertainment, and historical comparisons.

For a limited time, California residents can visit the Disneyland Resort theme parks for as low as $83 per day with the purchase of a special 3-day, 1-park per day ticket valid Mondays through Thursdays. Visit 3 times from June 13, 2022 through September 15, 2022–subject to theme park reservation availability.

Here’s pricing for Disneyland’s 2022 SoCal Resident Ticket Deal:

  • 3-Day (Monday-Thursday), 1-Park Per Day Ticket – $249 ($83/Day)
Not Valid for Admission on Fridays to Sundays
  • 3-Day (Monday-Sunday), 1-Park Per Day Ticket – $299 ($100/Day)
    No Blockout Dates Apply

Park Hopper Ticket upgrade and Genie+ service can be added for additional fees. The California Resident ticket can be used on nonconsecutive days and expires on September 15, 2022. While you can buy directly from Disneyland, this deal is also available via Get Away Today with even greater savings.

Offer valid for California residents within ZIP codes 90000-96199. Proof of eligible residency, including valid government-issued photo ID, is required for purchase and admission. Eligible residents may purchase up to 5 tickets per day with valid ID.

Tickets are nonrefundable, may not be sold or transferred for commercial use and exclude activities/events separately priced. Offer may not be combined with other ticket discounts or promotions. Tickets may not be upgraded to longer durations. This promotion is subject to restrictions, change and cancellation without notice. Sales may be paused from time to time or terminated at any time.

California Resident Tickets with Monday to Thursday park admission days have the following Friday to Sunday blockout dates: June 17-19, 24-26; July 1-3, 7-10, 15-17, 22-24, 29-31; August 5-7, 12-14, 19-21, 26-28; September 2-4 and 9-11, 2022.

Next, a couple of quirks to this promotion. First, this is valid for all California zip codes, from San Diego to Mount Shasta. Normally, these ticket discounts are for Southern California residents only, and encompass zip codes ranges of 90000-93599.

Second, the Southern California ticket deals are usually offered from January until May each year during a time when attendance is historically light and attraction closures are common for refurbishments. In fact, the prior 2022 Southern California Resident Disneyland Ticket Discount just ended prior to Memorial Day weekend.

Bringing this ticket deal back instead of resuming Magic Key sales is a curious decision. It could be that Disneyland wants to push Californians towards multi-day tickets instead of passes.

It’s also possible that this will bridge the gap until the parks are back at full capacity, as Disneyland has already discovered it cannot open the floodgate on Magic Key sales without causing other issues.

Finding the sweet spot between too little and too much demand in light of current capacity considerations is probably the goal here. Disney might be growing concerned that fans from Northern California and other areas outside Los Angeles and Orange Counties will be reluctant to drive down to Anaheim for annual trips this summer.

Gas is already above $6 per gallon throughout California, and a recent survey found that 90% of Americans will consider the price of gas in their summer road trip plans, with a majority likely to take fewer trips and 33% canceling travel plans.

It could also be that Disney is waiting for resolution of the Magic Key Passholder lawsuit in the Central District of California. This alleges that Disney misled and deceived pass purchasers by artificially limiting capacity and restricting reservations. The suit contends that Disney has effectively created a second tier of blockout dates by virtue of allocating reservations differently for passholders and regular ticket holders, in order to maximize the number of tickets that Disney can sell.

Disney filed a motion to dismiss on all claims, and was successful on some of them. However, the federal judge found that the “plaintiff has adequately pled facts supporting how a reasonable consumer may be deceived by the advertisement, which states ‘no blockout dates.’”

Another interesting detail of this discount is the park reservation calendar. After being fully booked for many dates this month and through June 10, the reservations calendar is pretty much wide open starting June 11, 2022.

It’ll be interesting to see whether that’s simply a coincidence, or if Disneyland plans on expanding capacity around that date, which is why more reservations are available and this ticket deal starts the following Monday.

As with the ticket deal earlier this year, the 2022 California Resident Disneyland base ticket discount is only valid on weekdays (Monday through Thursday). While there is a more expensive version available, that offers relatively meager savings as compared to normal park tickets.

These tickets are also significantly more expensive than the winter and spring ticket deal, starting at $83 per day instead of $67 per day. This likely reflects higher demand during the summer tourist season, coupled with Disneyland’s ongoing staffing shortage that makes even more moderate crowds feel worse than they’d be with the parks at proper capacity. ($83 was the price of last year’s California resident tickets offered in the summer and fall, but that didn’t have the weekday limitation–so the $100 per day version is the apples to apples comparison.)

By historical standards, these discounts are not particularly hot. Here are California resident ticket prices from the last several years so you can see how things have changed…

2022 SoCal Resident Winter & Spring Ticket Deal Prices:

  • 3-Day, 1-Park Per Day Ticket — $199
  • 3 Day, 1-Park Per Day Ticket with Disney Genie+ Service — $259
  • 3-Day Park Hopper Ticket — $259
  • 3-Day Park Hopper Ticket with Disney Genie+ Service — $319

2021 California Resident Disneyland Ticket Deal Prices:

  • 3-day, 1-park ticket for $249
  • 3-day Park Hopper ticket for $304

2020 SoCal Resident Disneyland Ticket Deal Prices:

  • 3-day, 1-park per day ticket for $201
  • 3-day Park Hopper ticket for $254

2019 SoCal Resident Disneyland Ticket Deal Prices:

  • 3-day, 1-park per day ticket for $179
  • 3-day Park Hopper ticket for $234

2018 SoCal Resident Disneyland Ticket Deal Prices:

  • 2-day ticket with choice of one park per day for $159
  • 2-day Park Hopper ticket for $204
  • 3-day ticket with choice of one park per day for $199
  • 3-day Park Hopper ticket for $244

2017 SoCal Resident Disneyland Ticket Deal Prices:

  • 3-day ticket with choice of one park per day for $149
  • 3-day Park Hopper ticket for $189

(These prices are accurate–that year was bonkers due to the bonus day plus the return of Main Street Electrical Parade.)

2016 SoCal Resident Disneyland Ticket Deal Prices:

  • 2-day ticket with choice of one park per day for $149
  • 2-day Park Hopper ticket for $189
  • 3-day ticket with choice of one park per day for $179
  • 3-day Park Hopper ticket for $219.

Note that resident tickets from previous years also included one Magic Morning early entry to Disneyland, which provided an extra hour on select days before the park opens to the general public. Obviously, that’s not the case with this deal as Magic Mornings are temporarily suspended.

Even without Magic Key passes, it’s interesting that this ticket deal is being offered right as summer tourist season starts and after the return of Fantasmic and the other nighttime spectaculars. If what we’ve seen and experienced recently is any indication, Disneyland is not hurting for attendance.

On a totally unrelated note, this ticket deal will likely last through the start of Halloween (see our Guide to Halloween Time at Disneyland). While nothing is official yet, our guess based upon past precedent is the seasonal event will begin on September 2, 2022—perhaps one week after that. Either way, this ticket deal will overlap with Disneyland’s Halloween season, which is always a great time to visit.

Ultimately, it’ll be interesting to see how popular these tickets end up being with locals. Blocking out weekends is a good move, and not doing so would’ve angered many Magic Key passholders. There are otherwise no restrictions for peak summer travel weeks or Independence Day, which falls on a Monday this year.

It’ll also be interesting to see how this California Resident Ticket Deal ends up impacting crowds. Disneyland previously announced that Fantasmic, World of Color, Main Street Electrical Parade, and Disneyland Forever Fireworks would all return in Spring 2022. That probably means March or April for the most part, so it’s possible there could still be a winter slowdown, even with this deal and “sold out” Magic Key reservations–a lot depends upon hiring and Disney’s ability to scale up capacity. We’ll be watching to see how it plays out.
