The Monsters Are Due On Main Street (Panorama)

Main Street, U.S.A. Early fall. A tree-lined little world of front porches, hot dogs, the laughter of children, and the smell of a candy vendor. At the sound of the roar and the flash of light, it will be precisely 12:53 a.m. on Main Street. This is Main Street on a late Friday night. Main Street, in the last calm and reflective moment before the monsters came.

While this seems like a relatively odd caption for a photo of Main Street, USA in Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom, the more discerning television viewers among you will likely recognize it as a nod to a classic episode of the Twilight Zone. Between Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party on Friday night and the Tower of Terror 10-mile run on Saturday night, it was as if the first part of the weekend had a Twilight Zone theme to it, especially the run, which had some neat Twilight Zone “Easter Eggs.” I’m certainly not complaining, as the Twilight Zone is one of my all-time favorite television shows.

Speaking of Easter Eggs, while this photo might appear to be an empty shot of Main Street, USA at first blush, there’s actually a Hidden Sarah® in the frame that you should be able to spot if you view the large size of the photo. And you should view the large size of the photo, as the smaller size is pretty unimpressive!

This photo may seem relatively pedestrian in terms of difficulty level, but those harsh lights on Main Street for Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party actually made it difficult. This lighting is awesome to see in person, but it really makes for challenging photography during the parties!

Technical details: shot with a Nikon D600 with a Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8 Lens. See our guide for more photography equipment recommendations.
