Visit Our New Blog: TravelCaffeine.com!
If you read our Disney Tourist Blog 2012 Year in Review post, you knew this was coming. We’re launching a “spin-off” blog of sorts called TravelCaffeine.com that will cover travel and photography. Actually, I don’t know if it can be called a spin-off blog since it is the blog that is broader in focus, and Disney Tourist Blog is a single-subject website.
Rather than regurgitating what I’ve posted on the “Welcome” post over there, I encourage you to head over there and check it out!
Disney Tourist Blog Implications
We know that this new blog won’t be for everyone, and those who it does appeal to might be groaning at the prospect of having to visit another blog. We get that, but separating the technical photography posts (that have always been a bit out of place on a Disney blog that is best described as a “planning” blog) out on another blog where we can also share our non-Disney photos and experiences just makes sense.
Fortunately, if there is any “bad news,” that’s it. The fact that folks interested in both sets of content will now have to visit two blogs. That’s it. Now, the good news.
The good news for Disney Tourist Blog is that we can completely focus on Disney tips, reviews, and the like, which will be accompanied by my photos of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, and Disneyland Paris. The blog won’t be cluttered up with photo of the day posts or camera reviews, which will find their way to the other blog. This will allow us to focus on the meatier content with our daily posts. We have a (huge) Disneyland Paris Trip Planning post, Be Our Guest Restaurant Review, and a couple other good posts that will “drop” later this week. The goal is to post more content of substance, like reviews, rankings, and op/ed content that relates to Disney. If you have specific posts you’d like to see us cover, feel free to drop me a line. We’ve recently received several emails asking questions about Disney Vacation Club, for example, but I’m not sure what else I could write on the subject.
Along the way, we’ll be reorganizing some of the site and updating some popular posts from 2011 and 2012 for 2013. You’ve probably noticed that we started this last week (if not, look on the main page). A lot of people still look at and use these 2011/2012 posts for planning, but the content of these posts wasn’t completely up to date. By the end of January, all of the major pages on the site will be up to date for 2013. (I never realized having a blog would be so much work!). On the organizational front, you’ll notice some weekend posts that provide links to our top posts on particular subjects, along with some menu reorganization, but nothing major.
Anyway, hope you enjoy the new blog and the newly-refocused Disney Tourist Blog! Thanks for reading one or both, as none of this content would exist were it not for the response we receive from you readers!
Please let us know what you think of the new blog, and what you’d like to see on this blog in the comments!
Great idea, Tom! I did sort of agree with you that the Photo of the Day posts didn’t fit in as well with the rest of the content or at least what I thought this website was focused on, so this is a welcome change.
Glad to hear that, thanks!
I’ve subscribed to the new blog, which looks like it will interest me just as much as this one. I do hope you change your mind and continue to “clutter” the Disney Tourist Blog with Photo of the Day posts too. Although you know your stuff when it comes to Disney and can turn a great phrase, your photography is a real asset to this blog too. I always want more of it, not less!
There will still be plenty of photography here, just (probably) not photo of the day posts that focus directly on a single photo.
Hate to be the guy reporting bug. I was trying to post a comment on the new blog. But it tell me this every time :
ERROR: please fill the required fields (name, email).
Only thing, there’s no place to wrote those down ( like here ). And somehow it say I’m log in into WordPress and offer me the option to log out. When I do, go back on the blog it say I’m still log in ( as a user called : “.” )
I have the same error on Google Chrome and Internet Explorer
And since I can’t post it there, here was the comment in question :

Great blog, it’s added to my bookmark and will check it out daily !
If you accept request I would LOVE to have post about the “making” of a picture. How you approach it, why this angle, why this aperture and what you did in post prod after. It’s really something that I think lack on the web. You see great picture, you can get the info ( aperture, shutter speed, iso ), but people rarely go in depth about why they did it this way. A picture always have a 6 different way to take it just on the technical side, and it doesn’t even count the angle, or why you ended up taking this shot ( did you prepare for it, etc. ). I think it would really be interesting.
As for the logo.. if you ever need help with that I’m a graphic designer (it is my actual job).
Looking forward to your future posts! ( you are making something I always wanted to do, but probably will never because English isn’t my main language and french doesn’t gather a lot of attention on the web )
First off, I would have never guessed that English isn’t your first language by your other comments on the blogs. Looking back, I can sort of see it in some places, but overall, kudos. Your English is far, far better than my French!
As for your suggestion, that’s one of the things I will approach from time to time on the blog. Not with every single photo, but with at least some of them!
With regard to the logo, I’m not exactly sure “how” we need help, I just know that it’s a bit generic for my taste. Sometimes less is more, but in this case, I think it somewhat lacks personality. I have no clue what I’d do instead, though, so if you have suggestions, I’m all ears!
I’ll try to see if I can come up with something. I truly appreciate what you do and if I can help in some way it’ll be an honor.
Thanks for the heads up–we’re looking into this!
Awesome. Good stuff so over there so far. Love the Disney stuff, but am looking forward to the photography content there!
Looking forward to reading the new blog Tom. Keep up the great work here; I love seeing all your photos and reading about your opinions on gear!
What a great idea! I will check out your new site for sure, but for me the photography is beautiful to look at but I have no clue about camera types/lenses/different shots, etc. So, usually when you have a section or post about cameras or “technical photography terms” (I know that’s not the right wording, that’s just how clueless I am!) I just skim or completely skip that part (I know a lot of people love it, it just doesn’t interest me!). It’s perfect because I can go to the new website when I wanna check out some gorgeous pictures or have camera questions, and I can continue to come here for all things Disney! Thanks Tom! 🙂
I totally understand that some people skip over the tech stuff–and that’s fine! Hope you enjoy the new blog, and the new content on this blog!
