D23 Brazil Announcement Predictions for Disney World & Disneyland

For the first time, Disney is bringing the D23 experience to Latin America during D23 Brazil, where fans can learn the latest about Parks & Resorts and more at this multi-day event. This predicts what’ll be revealed for Walt Disney World: new entertainment, attractions, ride reimaginings, concept art, etc. (Updated November 8, 2024.)

Let’s start with the basics. From November 8 to 10, 2024, the Transamérica Expo Center in São Paulo will host “D23 Brazil – A Disney Experience.” Get ready to live unforgettable moments with panels full of news, interactive attractions, exclusive products and much more.

D23 Brazil – A Disney Experience is an exciting showcase of the best in creative storytelling and innovation from across The Walt Disney Company. This extraordinary three-day event brings together special areas dedicated to Disney, Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, ESPN, National Geographic, Disney Parks, Star and Radio Disney.

November 8, 2024 Update: Disney has released the full schedule for D23 Brazil, which indicates that there will be a Disney Experiences (aka Parks & Resorts Plus Products Plus Fortnite) arena panel on the morning of Saturday, November 8, 2024. It’s unclear to us how long this will last, whether it’s being presented by Chairman Josh D’Amaro, or anything else.

Disney did tease this: “Arena D23 will accommodate thousands of fans and will be the place where great talents and creatives will gather. It will host the most anticipated panels and presentations of this fan experience, showcasing the best in creative storytelling and innovation from across The Walt Disney Company.”

“Exclusive previews of films, series, games and shows and a sneak peek of what’s to come will be presented, as well as the latest on new and highly anticipated projects in development around the world for Disney Parks and Disney Cruise Line.”

We have also heard more rumblings of late, which are hinted at in Disney’s Hall of Presidents Will Close & Change in 2025. This leads us to believe it’s possible for a somewhat significant announcement to occur at D23 Brazil. No, it will NOT involve Hall of Presidents and it’s not even Brazil-related.

If the announcement does happen at this D23 event, it’ll mostly be a matter of serendipitous timing. I haven’t heard anything to suggest a D23 Brazil reveal is actually the plan, it just strikes me as a logical time for the announcement. In reality, this news could drop anytime in the next 2 months if the rumors I’ve heard are correct–and they very well may not be! Sorry to be vague and cryptic, but that’s about all I can say at this time.

Anyway, let’s turn our attention back to D23 Brazil – A Disney Experience, and cover basics about the event before turning to updated predictions.

Disney fans will have the opportunity to explore the best in creative content and participate in interactive experiences. D23 attendees also have the opportunity to shop at the megastore with more than 600 exclusive products from different categories, such as fashion, stationery, publishing, and toys.

Shows and panels will take place in an auditorium that seats more than 2,000 people. The event will also feature the participation of several national and international talents. Here’s a look at the map for D23 Brazil – A Disney Experience:

D23 Brazil – A Disney Experience is “an event that promises to be an extraordinary milestone in the Disney experience in the country. We invite fans to join us in Brazil for this unique celebration, where we will share the magic, innovation and enchantment that define Disney. We will create unforgettable moments together and build memories that will mark generations”, explains Renato D’Angelo, general manager of The Walt Disney Company Brazil.

D23 Brazil – A Disney Experience Highlights:

  • Disney’s biggest fan event is coming to Brazil for the first time.
  • Three days of special panels with exclusive content about cinema and streaming and the best of Disney.
  • Megastore with more than 600 exclusive products created especially for the event.
  • Interactive areas with experiences and activities from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic, Star and ESPN.
  • Appearances by national and international celebrities.
  • A large exhibition space, including special Disney Experiences and Radio Disney areas.

With all of that in mind, here are my updated predictions for what gets revealed at D23 Brazil tomorrow…

For the most part, do NOT expect D23 Brazil to be a newsy event for Walt Disney World or Disneyland. There’s one possible kernel of major new news, but even that seems like a longshot.

I guess it’s possible that the event will have some news that didn’t make the cut at D23 Expo, so let’s quickly run through our predictions and wish list from prior to D23 Expo this summer that didn’t come to fruition, along with other possibilities:

  • New Tropical Americas Concept Art or Details – More likely than anything else on this list.
  • Ride Reimaginings – One major new announcement is possible. Ditto more details about Test Track 3.0.
  • Entertainment News for 2025 – Walt Disney World still has a thing or two up its sleeve for next summer, but we don’t expect a reveal of that just yet.
  • New Monstropolis Concept Art – Possibly, probably not.
  • Monsters Inc Land Location – Possibly, probably not.
  • New Starlight Parade Concept Art – Possibly.
  • Coco Boat Ride (DCA) Concept Art – Possibly.
  • Walt Disney AA – Seeing footage of the Audio Animatronics is plausible, but I’d expect the first look of that elsewhere.
  • Lion King Ride – No announcement for Animal Kingdom, but again, maybe a better piece of concept art for WDSP that shows the animated film?
  • Inside Out in Wonders of Life – No.
  • Stitch’s Great Escape Replacement – Less crazy than the next couple entries, but crazy nevertheless.
  • New Land at Disneyland – Not a chance.
  • Tomorrowland Transformation at Disneyland – Oh come on now, be serious.
  • Journey Into Imagination 4.0 – Hahahahahahaha!!!
  • River Country Resort – I suppose it’s possible? This project is happening (again). Like in a literal sense. Right now, cranes are in place and earth is moving. So it has to be announced at some point soon-ish, but it makes zero sense to announce in Brazil.

Personally, I think it’s more likely that absolutely nothing from the above list happens–even the reveal of new concept art–than that there are any surprises or big news.

The ‘why’ (or rather, why not) of all this requires understanding the purpose of D23 Brazil in the first place. Fans are divided on this, with many thinking it’s going to be another news-driven event. This is an erroneous assumption. For one thing, D23 Expo (or whatever they’re calling it now) in Anaheim is the flagship event where all of the announcements are made. All other events are history-focused or brand-building exercises.

For another thing, D23 Expo just happened. Even if you knew nothing about Disney’s goals with D23 Brazil, you could make some safe assumptions based on the timing of this event, and the fact that Disney just had a blockbuster D23 Expo and doesn’t have much left in the news tank–aside from table scraps, clarification, and concept art to follow-up on that.

Nevertheless, we’ve heard from some Disney fans who are hoping that there’s a reason why D23 Brazil is happening. That this is a sign that the long-rumored Brazil pavilion in EPCOT is finally happening or that Brazil is getting a park or resort. We think they’re overthinking it. I say this as someone who has been on the Brazil pavilion bandwagon for years: all signs point to that rumor being dead.

As for something more substantial than that, there’s no reason to believe Disney has any interest in investing in Brazil. There are a number of reasons for that, none of which I’m going to get into here. Suffice to say, Brazil probably isn’t top 5 for future development locations. Even if it were, the announcement wouldn’t come at an event like this. Bob Iger would hold a press conference, probably with Brazilian politicians, as soon as the company got the greenlight from government officials. It wouldn’t go down like this.

What D23 Brazil about is fostering the fandom is South America. To the extent that there’s Parks & Resorts content or news, it’ll revolve around convincing Brazilians to visit Walt Disney World in 2025. Thinking about it through that prism should narrow the type of news that’s announced or reveals that occur. This audience is a key demographic for Walt Disney World vacation package bookings, and I’d expect that every effort will be made about getting them excited to visit next year. Maybe that means an update on Test Track, Starlight Night Parade, or other as-yet unannounced entertainment at Walt Disney World.

Personally, I wouldn’t bet on a single all-new announcement. Not trying to rain on any parades, just trying to keep expectations in check. I’ve seen some fans getting excited or overly optimistic about announcements, and they’re just setting themselves up for disappointment. D23 has done international events before–in Japan–and those have mostly just yielded new concept art for Walt Disney World and Disneyland. They haven’t even resulted in any major news for the parks in Japan! With this event occurring in close proximity to D23 Expo, we’re anticipating even less from D23 Brazil. The next big news-centric event will probably be Destination D23 at Walt Disney World in Fall 2025, and even that won’t be remotely on par with the 2024 D23 Expo.

  1. I quickly swiped through the photo right after Tom’s cryptic message. Since it went by so fast I thought it was a shot of the Rock and Roller Coaster pre-show.
I went back up and saw Electric Mayhem. Now my mind is stuck on the Muppets Courtyard closing (as many of us fear, good bye Muppets 3D) for the Monsters Inc Land. But moving the muppets to the Rock and Roller Coaster using Electric Mayhem as the band.

I do hope that whether it comes true, or once it gets completely shot down in a few months, that Tom pays off this cryptic message with what news he had heard.

    1. “is it an announcement you’re excited about? or are we going to be devastated?”

      Yes. 😉

Seriously, if it happens (still an if!), it’ll prompt both reactions. Maybe from the same people, even.

  2. “In reality, this news could drop anytime in the next 2 months if the rumors I’ve heard are correct–and they very well may not be! Sorry to be vague and cryptic, but that’s about all I can say at this time.” ….[insert unrelated photo of the Muppets] 😉

I am guessing more information about Tropical Americas. The relevance of doing that in Brazil is too hard to pass up, and the announcement in the Anaheim D23 seemed very short on details about the rides.

  3. Hey Tom,
My prediction since D23 would be that one of the new DCL ships will be South America focused, given they have branched out to every continent except Africa, SA, and Antarctica now. Thoughts?

  4. Logically it would make sense to have several South American, especially Brazil, focused reveals at this event, to increase buzz and fan enthusiasm. The question is what? A Brazil pavilion at Epcot would be great, of course, but what I would expect would be more new information on Tropical Americas, lots of it, in fact. Maybe some kind of direct tie to Brazil or South America that’s not been announced.

  5. I’d love to see some sort of organized timeline of previous announcements. I really appreciated Tom’s attempt to get everything into a more coherent whole, and something coming straight from Disney focused on the next few years would be a great advertising tool.

… I’m dying to know if a Brazilian World Showcase pavilion is dead because World Showcase pavilions in general aren’t a priority right now, and/or if Brazil has slipped down EPCOT’s most favored future nations status. I know it’s off-topic, but I’m so curious about the latter. (I’m already assuming the first part is true.)

  6. Hi Tom! We live in Rio, almost 300 miles from the event, but my wife and I are evaluating to participate. I think it would be a great opportunity for you to come and attend the event, don’t you think? It would be great to have the best blog of Disney in the world represented! (not kidding – Sarah would love to come to Brazil either, and Megatron too! ) Best regards! From your Brazilian friend Bruno (with you reading the blog since 2014).

  7. How long would it take to build a new pavilion in EPCOT, assuming it only consists of 1) a restaurant, 2) a store, and 3) some kind of live show? Could it be done by August 29, 2025? That will be the 200th anniversary of Brazil’s recognized independence from Portugal, so it might be a good time to sponsor a pavilion. Otherwise…yeah, no parks announcements.

  8. Hi Tom! From Brazil, we are very excited to be part of D23 event! Brazilians fans are expecting that something will be announced, but I agree with you: the major point of the event is to promote even more Disney Parks to Brazilians fans. Maybe a brazilian EPCOT pavilion? Maybe a tip or a detail not announced yet? But with Universals Epic coming, any publicity is welcome to keep the flame on with fans! Ah, we love the blog, and congrats again for your lovelly family. Megatron is beatiful! Best regards! From your brazilian friend, Bruno

    1. Hi Bruno – Thanks for the kind words!

I sure hope to be wrong, as I still think that a Brazil pavilion in EPCOT makes too much sense not to do–and plans were pretty far along as of 2019. But that was literally the last I’ve heard about the project. It seems likely to happen eventually, but I wouldn’t expect it to be revealed soon. Concept art and other details about existing projects is definitely the better bet.

Will you be attending the event?
