Disney’s Delightfully Daffy Donald Duck Bash

Donald’s Quacky Duck City is the second in a series of limited-time “Disney Pal-Palooza” events taking place in late Spring and Summer 2024 at Tokyo Disneyland. This shares dates and details about the first seasonal festivity, its new parade, decorations, food, merchandise and more, along with our commentary about these offerings.

“Donald’s Quacky Duck City” will run from April 9 through June 30. According to Tokyo Disney Resort, this event series is all about having a blast with your “pals” in the Park in a party-like, “palooza,” environment. Following the first installment featuring Minnie Mouse, the second event stars Donald Duck.

Guests can enter the extraordinary world of “Duck City,” Donald’s ideal world where he reigns as the ultimate superstar. With this event guests can enjoy the world of Donald’s imagination as the Park undergoes a transformation, tailored to fulfill Donald’s wildest dreams. “Donald’s Quacky Duck City” is a festive extravaganza filled with boundless excitement alongside the exuberant Donald.

During this special event, the new entertainment program “Quacky Celebration ★ Donald the Legend!” will make its debut. Various Disney friends will gather in “Duck City” to celebrate their beloved superstar Donald and his many talents, from being a movie star, chef and more.

The Mickey Flower Bed at the entrance of the Park will be transformed into a Donald-themed version, while a monument honoring Donald’s superstar status will be placed at the heart of World Bazaar.

Throughout Tokyo Disneyland, “Duck City” decorations will adorn various areas, creating a captivating ambiance that will transport guests into Donald’s ideal world. To add to the enchantment, exclusive merchandise and special menu items will be available for purchase.

The Disney hotels will feature guest rooms and menus inspired by “Donald’s Quacky Duck City,” while the Disney Resort Line will offer limited-period tickets with exclusive designs. As guests explore Tokyo Disney Resort, they will be transported into a unique world envisioned by none other than Donald himself.

Here’s an overview of each element of “Donald’s Quacky Duck City” per Tokyo Disney Resort’s press release, followed by our commentary…

Quacky Celebration ★ Donald the Legend! Parade

  • Venue: Parade Route and Castle Forecourt
  • Duration: About 35 minutes
  • Performances: 1-2 daily
  • Number of Floats: 6
  • Number of Performers: ~65
  • Participating Disney Characters: Donald Duck, Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Daisy Duck, Pete (first appearance) and more

The new entertainment program, “Quacky Celebration ★ Donald the Legend!,” will be presented along the parade route and at the Castle Forecourt. Disney friends, dressed in Donald’s iconic blue, white, and yellow, representing their deep admiration for Donald, will come together to celebrate Donald and his many talents that include being a movie star, chef and more.

As they join forces to honor Donald, he initially feels bewildered but gradually becomes overjoyed with happiness. His friends continue to praise him, creating a festive atmosphere of excitement and celebration. The parade will also feature “Pete,” who has been a beloved character from Walt Disney Animation Studios since its early days, marking his debut in an entertainment program at Tokyo Disney Resort.

The parade will start in Fantasyland and stop at the following three locations: (1) between Fantasyland and Westernland; (2) between the Plaza and Castle Forecourt; (3) between Tomorrowland and Fantasyland. Guests will be able to enjoy different scenes based on where they view the parade.

DECORATIONS: A one-of-a-kind and whimsically chaotic world awaits guests who enter Donald’s “Duck City,” where they will be greeted by a Donald Flower Bed and a grand Donald marquee.

At the center of World Bazaar, a monument dedicated to Donald, now a superstar, stands tall. Wherever guests look, they will encounter unique “Duck City”-inspired decorations that add a playful and distinctive touch to the surroundings.

SPECIAL MERCHANDISE: Starting from April 8, unique merchandise such as headbands and other items inspired by Donald’s imaginative world of “Duck City” will be available. One notable item guests may enjoy is the colorful “Quack-Quack Stick” adorned with adorable ducks, which produces a distinctive “quackquack” sound when shaken.

Guests can use these during the entertainment program “Quacky Celebration ★ Donald the Legend!” and join in on the excitement with beloved Disney friends. Additionally, a guest voting campaign called “Make Your Favorite” will also take place. As part of this project, guests will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite concept sketches that were created for this campaign, and the most popular design will be available as merchandise.

SPECIAL MENUS: Special menu items bring to life the wacky world of “Donald’s Quacky Duck City” starting April 1, 2024. At the specially decorated Plaza Pavilion Restaurant, guests can enjoy a set meal featuring pasta and dessert, inspired by Chef Donald himself, adorned with his signature colors and motifs.

At Ice Cream Cones in World Bazaar, guests can delight in a visually captivating Special Sundae. This whimsical treat features blue jelly, diced mango, and a dollop of whipped cream cheese, all served atop the sundae. Adding a charming touch, red raspberry granules resembling Donald’s bowtie are playfully sprinkled, and the sundae is presented to resemble Donald’s tail.

Elsewhere, expect to find a bunch of dishes and desserts in the most iconic of styles: Donald’s Duckbutt.

DISNEY HOTELS: From April 9 through June 30, 2024, Disney Ambassador Hotel will offer themed guest rooms inspired by “Donald’s Quacky Duck City.” These rooms are adorned with Donald’s signature blue and yellow colors, creating a unique world filled with cartoon elements where guests can be immersed in the vibrant “Duck City” of Donald’s dreams.

Additionally, both Disney Ambassador Hotel and Tokyo Disneyland Hotel will feature special menus in their restaurants, showcasing the exuberant and delightful Donald. Guests can experience a different than usual wacky world at the Disney hotels while creating cherished memories and having an enjoyable time with loved ones.

DISNEY RESORT LINE MONORAIL: From April 8, 2024, day passes for the Disney Resort Line monorail trains will be available in designs themed to “Disney Pal-Palooza ‘Donald’s Quacky Duck City’” at the ticket machines in each station. Guests can also collect souvenir medallions that will be available in an exclusive design.

TOKYO DISNEY RESORT VACATION PACKAGES: During the “Donald’s Quacky Duck City” special event, Tokyo Disney Resort Vacation Packages will offer a special plan that allows guests to experience the entertainment program “Quacky Celebration ★ Donald the Legend!” from the Castle Forecourt or the Vacation Package exclusive viewing seats.

Turning to our commentary, let’s actually start with something tangential to the last point: Tokyo Disney Resort Vacation Packages. We’ve received dozens of questions about these over the years, which I’ve mostly hand-waved away as “not worth the money.” And that’s true–you’re paying a premium for package components that, for the most part, you could book separately yourself. Everything else isn’t much of a value-add.

Well, there’s now a colossal caveat to the above “for the most part,” and that’s the 1-Day Passport: Fantasy Springs Magic ticket. For lack of better description, this offers open access to Fantasy Springs and sounds like basically an unlimited FastPass for the attractions (minus Fairy Tinker Bell’s Busy Buggies). There’s a huge pricing premium for that ticket, but for those of us who are worried about being able to ride everything in the same day, it offers tremendous peace of mind. These are only available to guests staying at Tokyo DisneySea Fantasy Springs Hotel (which is impossible to book) or via an eligible Tokyo Disney Resort Vacation Package plan.

Anyway, after spending over a dozen hours on the Tokyo Disney Resort site booking and modifying our own vacation packages (technically ~8 hours of that was spent in virtual queues), we now have much more firsthand expertise. My current plan is to do a write-up this summer after using the vacation package, but I’m wondering whether there’s interest in something before then for those who are planning to go around the opening of Fantasy Springs.

Turning to the “Donald’s Quacky Duck City” special event itself, let’s start with the negative, this is an indirect replacement for the excellent Easter program that used to run at both Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea. Easter has been on hiatus since 2019 and was not expected to return this year, so this is not a shocking development. Nevertheless, we remain hopeful that Easter does return at some point, as it was one of the flagship events (alongside Halloween and Christmas) at Tokyo Disney Resort.

With that out of the way, it’s all positive with “Donald’s Quacky Duck City.” First of all, it’s worth noting that this is slightly larger scale than the first Disney’s Pal-Palooza event, with more performers in the parade and added decorations. It’s also occurring alongside other events at Tokyo Disney Resort. All of this demonstrates that things are scaling up and, slowly but surely, getting back to normal. That process has taken too long in the eyes of many TDR fans, but at least it’s finally happening.

As for its substance, “Donald’s Quacky Duck City” looks absolutely awesome. Perhaps I’m biased, but Donald’s fiery and irascible personality lends itself perfectly to a special event like this. It has the potential to be zany and oddball, with a sense of swagger (for lack of a better term) that could make it a ton of fun.

This is evident in part from the marketing materials (I love the comic style) and decorations (Donald winning a “best muscles” award); in addition to those and Donald Duck’s personality traits, there’s also the sense that the first Disney Pal-Palooza event (Minnie’s Funderland) has a certain offbeat quality to it. No offense to Minnie Mouse, but I suspect that’ll be heightened with Donald Duck.

We cannot wait for the “Donald’s Quacky Duck City” event, as it looks like it’ll be an absolute hoot. (Sorry, wrong bird.) This is what a limited-time event should look like. We would love to see Walt Disney World and Disneyland embrace wonderfully weird and zany special events like “Donald’s Quacky Duck City.” To each their own, but to us, this looks way more fun, fresh and fitting for a castle park than Pixar Fest.
