Extended Evening Hours Resort Perk Returns to Magic Kingdom in 2027

After moving over to Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios for the Halloween and Christmas Party season, Extended Evening Hours is finally returning to Magic Kingdom in early January. Here are the details, plus predictions for when the on-site Walt Disney World hotel perk will switch parks again in 2027, and why this happens every year.

As basic background, Extended Evening Hours (ExEH) is the nighttime counterpart to Early Theme Park Entry. There are several differences, most notably that guests staying at Value or Moderate Resorts are not eligible for Extended Evening Hours. But it’s not just the most expensive resorts–you can save money by renting DVC points or staying at the Swolphin and still be eligible if you want to hack ExEH.

Extended Evening Theme Park Hours has two types of resort eligibility, occurs two nights per week, is at two parks, and runs for two hours. It’s usually Monday at EPCOT and Wednesday at Magic Kingdom. See our Strategy Guide for Extended Evening Hours at Walt Disney World for more ins and outs of the nighttime Deluxe benefit.

As always, Magic Kingdom stops hosting Extended Evening Hours when Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party kick into high gear. That’s why there are no ExEH dates at Magic Kingdom for the remainder of 2026, and haven’t been for a while.

Magic Kingdom stopped hosting Extended Evening Hours with regularity back on August 19th, before doing one final date on September 9th. That was it for this year, and was actually a longer run than last year, when the debut of Disney Starlight Night Parade cut the ‘season’ short.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios has been hosting Extended Evening Hours on Wednesdays for the last couple of months, with its final date on October 28, 2026 (tonight!).

Disney’s Hollywood Studios is actually our second-favorite park for ExEH, and we wish the perk were offered there more frequently. It recently got even better thanks to the addition of Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance to the ride roster.

Starting November 4, 2026, Animal Kingdom will take over hosting duties for the Wednesday Extended Evening Hours, due to the start of Jollywood Nights Christmas Party. Although Extended Evening Hours isn’t as desirable at DAK, at least it occurs entirely at night in November and December due to the earlier sunset time.

We’re actually fans of it during the final two months of the year, and make a point of attending, whereas we avoid ExEH at DAK when it happens to host during the summer. Our advice is arriving in the late afternoon to catch the last showing of Merry Menagerie, and then knocking out the rest of the park (potentially with several re-rides) and soaking up the evening ambiance for the next several hours.

This has more or less been the cadence of previous years, with ExEH switching from MK to DHS once MNSSHP kicked into high gear, and then from DHS to DAK once Jollywood Nights started. All of the above is how the Extended Evening Hours scheduling plays out in a normal year.

If you’re planning ahead for Fall 2027, you can expect Disney’s Hollywood Studios to again take over Extended Evening Hours hosting duties from Magic Kingdom again after it stops hosting After Hours. The date is not yet certain, but our best guess is that it’ll happen on September 1, 2027.

Today’s big news is that Extended Evening Hours returns to Magic Kingdom starting Wednesday, January 6, 2027 from 9 pm until 11 pm. (It’s possible park hours extensions push that back to 10 pm to midnight.) This is as far out as the calendar currently goes; there’s no official confirmation that this trend continues on subsequent Wednesdays in Winter and Spring 2027.

It usually does. It’s our expectation that Magic Kingdom continues to host Extended Evening Hours every Wednesday through through the first half of 2027. Earlier this year, there were initially concerns that ExEH would shift again once Daylight Saving Time started due to Starlight Night Parade, but that did not happen.

There’s no reason to believe anything will change in 2027. Magic Kingdom should host Extended Evening Hours until early August 2027, at which point it’ll switch over to Animal Kingdom for about a month, before Disney’s Hollywood Studios for the bulk of September and October 2027. Then back to DAK for November and December 2027.

If anything, the slightly scaled-back After Hours schedule towards the tail end of Summer 2027, with dates removed during the off-season after schools go back into session (as compared to this year’s schedule), is more conducive to Magic Kingdom and then Disney’s Hollywood Studios hosting Extended Evening Hours for more dates in the new year.

With all of that said, nothing after January 6, 2027 is on the official calendar. The rest is purely speculative on our part, so don’t plan around any of this until Walt Disney World releases the schedule. We’re just bringing this to your attention extra early so you don’t get caught off-guard when Walt Disney World switches things up and moves the Wednesday Extended Evening Hours around in the second half of 2027.

A lot of fans were very disappointed about this unexpected change over the summer and early fall this year. And understandably so–we left Animal Kingdom at the end of Extended “Evening” Hours in the summer, and it was still broad daylight out! Not only that, but there was still plenty of time to Park Hop over to Magic Kingdom.

Adding to the speculation, we can’t help but wonder whether Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will finally join the Extended Evening Hours lineup starting January 6, 2027.

It has been the one headliner that has been a conspicuous omission, which we assume is due to a greater need for overnight maintenance. With Tiana’s Bayou Adventure finally getting an overdue refurbishment over the next couple months, we’re hoping this will be addressed.

It’s also possible that TBA not being part of ExEH has nothing to do with maintenance, and is just an oversight or operational choice since water rides tend to be less popular at night. TRON Lightcycle Run still isn’t officially part of Early Entry, and there doesn’t seem to be a great explanation for that.

We’re huge fans of Extended Evening Hours, particularly at Magic Kingdom and especially in the winter. When there’s chillier weather, the crowds tend to clear out, making ExEH even more advantageous. This is doubly true with winter getting busier with each passing year. Extended Evening Hours has been the one reliable way (knock on wood) to accomplish attractions with relatively short waits.

This might seem slightly counterintuitive, but Extended Evening Hours has been noticeably less busy during the winter months than it is during the summer. That’s despite lower overall crowd levels in the summer months. There have been times in June and July in the last couple of years when ExEH has had wait times comparable to daytime hours at Magic Kingdom.

As with lower demand in winter due to weather, the same is true in summer. High heat and humidity results in more guests seeking out Extended Evening Hours for more pleasant conditions. Just something to keep in mind if you’ve previously done ExEH in the summer, thought it was too crowded, and are thinking of skipping the extra hours in winter.
