Florida Resident Summer Fun Ticket Deal

Walt Disney World has released a new deal! Florida Resident Summer Fun Tickets offer deeply-discounted 2-day, 3-day, and 4-day park tickets for locals. In this post, we’ll share info & details about the limited-time offer for the remainder of summer and early fall, plus commentary about this promo and the return of Annual Passes, and historical comparisons.

As a quick recap, Walt Disney World recently released “Summer Fun” Hotel Deals for Annual Passholders & Florida Residents. This offers special rates at select hotels for most nights from August 8 through September 4, 2021. However, the percentage off is not uniform, so you have to search specific dates to find the best rates.

Some resort by resort starting rates are Disney’s Pop Century Resort for $149+ tax/night, Coronado Springs for $249+ tax/night, Art of Animation Family Suites for $349+ tax/night, and Grand Floridian for $449+ tax/night. These rates are not particularly hot, but as we’ve noted repeatedly, discounts are pretty scarce right now. (See What’s Up with Sold Out Hotels at Walt Disney World? That offers an in-depth explanation of the current phenomenon.)

With the Florida Resident Summer Fun Tickets, locals can enjoy 2, 3 or 4 days at one Walt Disney World theme park per day. These flexible tickets can be used at any one of the 4 theme parks on consecutive or non-consecutive days throughout the offer period, subject to Disney Park Pass availability.

The 2-Day Florida Resident Summer Fun Tickets cost $150 (that’s $75 per day), the 3-Day Summer Fun Tickets cost $185 (that’s $62 per day), and the 4-Day Florida Resident Summer Fun Tickets cost $215 (that’s $54 per day). All tickets are valid through September 17, 2021.

You can also choose a Florida Resident Summer Fun Ticket that includes these options:

  • Park Hopper Option gives you the opportunity to visit more than one theme park per day. Add it for $35 more per ticket.
  • Water Park and Sports Option allows you to visit a water park, golf course or miniature golf course on each day of your ticket. Add it for $30 more per ticket.
  • Park Hopper Plus Option grants you the ability to visit more than one theme park per day–plus, enjoy access to a water park, golf course or miniature golf course on each day of your ticket. Add it for $50 more per ticket.

Proof of Florida residency required. All adults will need to show proof of Florida residency at park entrance. Both a theme park reservation via the Disney Park Pass system and valid theme park admission for the same park on the same date are required.

Here’s a visual chart that might make the info easier to digest:

These prices are higher than the last two rounds of Florida resident tickets that were released. Most recently, tickets for the first half of the year were $149 for 2-day tickets, $179 for 3-day tickets, and $199 for 4-day tickets. (In fairness, these had many blockout dates–but were also released during a busier time of year.)

Prior to that, the Florida Resident Discover Tickets released when Walt Disney World reopened last summer started at $130 per ticket for the 2-day ticket. The 3-day option was $174 per ticket and the 4-day Florida Resident Disney Magic Flex Ticket was $195 per ticket.

Not exactly huge price differences, but worth pointing out. That’s especially true given that the post-reopening deals were not unprecedented–they were the exact same offer as the Florida Resident Discover Disney Ticket offered the prior year.

Obviously, there are big differences between now and then. While attendance has picked up considerably thanks to increased domestic travel and pent-up demand, so too have Walt Disney World’s capacity caps. Moreover, this new ticket deal is being released at the tail end of summer, and runs into August and September, two months that are expected to be pre-50th Anniversary slumps.

There’s also the reality that many Floridians cannot purchase Annual Passes, so they’ll be pushed to this offer to get their Walt Disney World “fix.”

However, one thing to keep in mind there is that it’s likely APs are very close to going back on sale. In When Will Walt Disney World Resume Annual Pass Sales? we predict that they’ll be back by the middle of next month. That’s not idle speculation–it’s surmised from info released by Disney.

With park capacity increasing, pent-up demand starting to slow down, and the off-season right around the corner, it’s unsurprising that Walt Disney World would release another ticket discount right now. The confluence of countervailing forces means the parks might suddenly go from have a shortage of available Park Pass reservation availability to a surplus of it. Offering a ticket deal to Florida residents is one way to offset that.

If that proves insufficient, Walt Disney World will get more aggressive by offering deals to the general public (albeit probably not in the form of park tickets) or…bringing back Annual Passes.

Ultimately, the Florida Resident Summer Fun Ticket offer is the best way for locals to save on park admission right now…especially with Annual Pass sales suspended. However, we think the return of APs in the next couple of months is an inevitability, and that would change the equation significantly.

We’ve thought Annual Passes were on the way back before and have been wrong. This time, it seems more likely, so if you’re in the market for an Annual Pass but would otherwise purchase this ticket deal, you might want to hedge your bets and hold off until the middle of August. We’re hopeful that the next couple of months will present a nice–albeit brief–window of discounts and relatively low crowds.
