New Star Wars Food Coming to Disney World
Walt Disney World has announced new menu items debuting in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Hollywood Studios. In this post, we’ll share the upcoming entrees and desserts landing soon at Docking Bay 7 and Ronto Roasters and offer brief commentary about menus at Walt Disney World.
As a preliminary matter, it’s good to see the frequency of Walt Disney World dining news increasing. While the hot topic has been restaurants reopening (see our recently-updated List of Open & Closed Restaurants at Walt Disney World), the scaled-back menus are equally significant but more frequently overlooked, in our view.
In What’s Returning to Walt Disney World in 2021 & 2022, we discuss how just about anything can be explained by staffing shortages at this point. That likewise holds true for scaled back menus (although supply chain issues and cost-savings likely both play a role), as simpler menus are less burdensome on the kitchens at Walt Disney World.
The degree to which you notice these scaled-back menus will likely depend upon whether you’ve previously visited Walt Disney World, how many times you visit certain restaurants, and your personal tastes. If it’s your first visit and you’re doing a day in each park, you may not notice at all.
If you’re a regular or spending multiple days in a certain park, things might be a little rougher. Our circumstances are obviously unique, but it’s gotten to the point where we always eat immediately before heading to Magic Kingdom because every counter service option is unambitious and/or repetitive. This was somewhat of an issue even pre-closure at Magic Kingdom, but it’s become so much more noticeable since reopening. (Be Our Guest cannot bring back its counter service lunch soon enough!)
But I digress. Magic Kingdom’s weak counter service menus are not the point of this post. Let’s take a look at the new menu items coming to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios…
Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo at Walt Disney World just received a new food shipment! Starting today, Batuuans and visitors to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge can sample Chef Strono “Cookie” Tuggs’ delicious new dishes inspired by his time on Takodana.
Here are the new entree items:
- Batuuan Beef & Crispy Topato Stir Fry — Smoky braised beef glazed in tamarind sauce served with stir-fried vegetables, crispy herb yucca, pickled onions, and cilantro
- Roasted Endorian Chicken Salad — Marinated chicken, mixed greens, grapes, tomato, cucumber, shaved onion, and radish in a lemon-pomegranate vinaigrette with spiced yogurt drizzle
- Pirjanad Hot Chicken Tip Yip — Crispy chicken glazed in a spicy chipotle sauce served with white rice, relish of sweet corn, shishito peppers, jicama, plantains, and cilantro
- Peka Tuna Poke — Raw tuna tossed in a spicy Sriracha dressing served with green papaya salad, pickled mushrooms, fresh herbs, and crispy garlic
For a sweet ending to your meal at Docking Bay 7 Food & Cargo, there’s a new dessert, the Outpost Puff: “Chocolate pastry filled guajillo chocolate mousse and green milk sauce finished with Thai tea panna cotta, spiced pineapple, and confectionary debris.”
It appears the online menus are still being updated, but if what we’re seeing right now is accurate, these new items replace old entrees and desserts rather than simply expanding the lineup at Docking Bay 7. If my recollection is correct, the menu is losing a shrimp and noodle salad, the raspberry cream puff for dessert, and probably one other dish. It still should be a net positive by an entree or two.
Next, there are several new plant-based options joining the lineup at Ronto Roasters. Per Walt Disney World, this will “give pitmaster droid, 8D-JB, a break from turning the podracing engine spit grilling ronto!”
Here’s a look at what’s joining the lineup for breakfast and lunch/dinner at Ronto Roasters:
- Kyryll Pork Rinds — Pork rinds seasoned in a savory blend of ancho chili, cheddar, smoke, and cinnamon.
- Zuchii Wrap — Grilled zucchini, smokey chickpea-onion slaw, creamy garlic-tahini sauce, and fresh cilantro wrapped in pita bread (plant-based)
- Triple Suns Breakfast Wrap — Plant-based egg, smoky chickpea-onion slaw, and roasted tomato sauce wrapped in pita bread (plant-based)
- Andoan Fruit with Muja Sauce — Sticks of jicama, cucumber, pineapple, melon, and dragon fruit doused in a tamarind sauce and dusted with peppercorn ash (plant-based)
To my knowledge, these are pure additions to the roster at Ronto Roasters. While I’m going to have a hard time dropping the iconic Ronto Wrap in favor of these newcomers on a permanent basis, I’ll at least give them a shot.
Walt Disney World has done some intriguing and inventive things in the last few years with plant-based options, and that includes the Felucian Kefta and Hummus Garden Spread over at Docking Bay 7 (pictured below).
This is one of the best menu items at Docking Bay 7, offering solid value for money and excellent taste. I’d still order the ribs, chicken, or poke over this, but it’s a great pick–and would be a menu standout almost anywhere else. (Even scaled back, Docking Bay 7 has a strong menu.)
I’m especially curious about the Zuchii Wrap coming to Ronto Roasters–I like plant-based options that don’t masquerade as “meat,” and this seems like a good one on that front.
Ultimately, a few solid-sounding additions to the culinary lineup in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Walt Disney World. This is not a seismic change, but we’ll take incremental steps in the right direction at this point. In addition to the Zuchii Wrap, we’re particularly intrigued by the Peka Tuna Poke, which sounds ambitious for Walt Disney World counter service. (I’m also wondering just how spicy the Pirjanad Hot Chicken Tip Yip actually is–that could be another winner!)
Hopefully this type of “menu expansion” announcement for Walt Disney World starts replacing the “restaurant reopening” announcement as there are fewer and fewer closed locations. While on the topic of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, our wish list would include the return of breakfast at the Milk Stand–or at least the Green Milk Bread Pudding! That debuted right around when Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway opened, so it only existed for a couple of weeks before the parks closed. Oh, and a return of Columbia Harbour House (and its normal menu) as well as Be Our Guest Restaurant’s counter service lunch would also be fantastic!

My wife and I had dinner at Chef Mickey’s the other night and the quality food was very tasty. They actually served prime ribs in their “family style” offering. Prime ribs used to be regularly served at many Disney World restaurants, but were replaced by cheaper meats. I was pleasantly surprised to have it there. The salmon and potatoes au gratin were excellent also.
@leeann terry Awesome news! I love adventurous food,(like several items listed), but not cilantro. 🙂
As a recent Vegan, I am very pleased that DW restaurants are serving vegan dishes. We will be staying in the cabins @Ft. Wilderness and we have a kitchen. I will be ordering groceries that I can eat but so happy that I won’t have to prepare every meal. Kudos to the people who added Vegan to their meals
I also agree about Magic Kingdom. My least favorite park for food, options are terrible. Be our guest is ridiculously overpriced for Applebee’s quality food. I wish they would at LEAST do some kind of seasonal inspired menu or add a few new things here and there. Or please bring back QS there. I miss the QS, it was actually decent!
As someone with a very adventurous palate, I LOVE LOVE LOVE that Disney keeps branching out with more adventurous flavors. I hate eating the junky greasy fast food crap served at a lot of the dining locations and I welcome these changes with open arms. For the love, please add more items like these in other places throughout WDW. It would be easy to keep a few junky menu items for the picky eaters but why not add a few more adventurous things to the menu as well? Especially love all the plant based options being added. More of that too!
@AgentMay
I was thinking the same thing, I was so excited when they debuted the veggie Ronto wrap because I travel with a vegetarian (and I’m clearly unpatriotic in my ambivalence to hot dogs). I know it’s at Disneyland right now though, and I can’t wait to sample it in a few days…
@Tom
I’m so glad you report on items like this, as Docking Bay Seven and Satuli Canteen are our two favorite places to eat at Disney World period, counter OR table (though Sanaa and Tiffins do manage to get me almost every time too). It doesn’t look like it from what you’ve posted but I really hope they aren’t getting rid of the ribs. I also quite enjoy their current version of the chicken salad so as long as the new one isn’t toned down at all then I’ll be happy still. Otherwise…I really am glad to see this restaurant continuing to be expanded on so I can try new things each time I go! Docking Bay Seven could really use a second plant-based dish, admittedly. The Felucian Kefta is amazing but I’d like my partner to be able to sample a variety of dishes too!
I looked to see if the menus were on mobile order yet, and they are now. There is a place to mark “no cilantro” 🙂
@lori d, that’s why i don’t eat at places like chipotle. cilantro doesn’t HAVE to be loaded into everything, but they disagree. nothing listed here strikes my fancy at all.
I thinking Docking Bay 7 has the best options in terms of quick service restaurants at Hollywood Studios! Everything I’ve had there has always been tasty – not just palatable. That’s pretty high praise in terms of Disney food haha I’m excited to try a couple of new things!
Bummer. I won’t eat there anymore. I liked the chicken and pasta a lot.
The zucchini wrap with chickpeas has been at Rontos, had it a couple times at the end of May and beginning of June. It is delicious and my daughter and I were happy for a vegetarian option. This dish, along with Felucian hummus at Docking Bay, as well as the Tofu bowl combos at Sautui Canteen have been such a welcome addition and our favorite dishes at WDW. On a side note, agreeing with you that the quick service food variety and quality at the MK is so so far behind the other parks and resorts.
SO MUCH CILANTRO! Several things sound tasty, otherwise. I’m one of the soap-tasting folks when it comes to that herb, so would hope to order without if I ever get there. The ideas sound pretty cool, and it’s encouraging to hear about changes and progress.
Well, I’m not missing anything by avoiding Galaxy’s Edge. My palate is nowhere near “appreciating” any of these items.
I can’t agree with you more about Magic Kingdom the food choices are terrible. We ate at Be Our Guest two days ago and I’m still in sticker shock. The price for the quality of food there is disgraceful. It was way better before the price fix menus. I ate at the California Grill the day before and it was basically the same $$$ for a much higher quality food. Even with the Beast and his 2 second flyby of our table.
