Soarin’ Across America Previews & Soft Openings Unlikely at DCA

Soarin’ Over California’s limited-time run will soon be grounded, ahead of Soarin’ Across America taking off ahead of Independence Day weekend at Disneyland Resort. Here are details, including the newly-confirmed closing date for the OG DCA Soarin, which makes lengthy previews and soft openings unlikely.

Disney previously announced that the fan-favorite attraction Soarin’ will be receiving an all-new airborne adventure across the United States created for the America250 celebration. The new bi-coastal attraction will showcase the United States—from sea to shining sea—highlighting some of the country’s natural beauty, like Grand Canyon National Park, and iconic cityscapes.

Soarin’ Across America will be brought to life with the iconic elements that make Soarin’ unforgettable – the flight, the sights and scents, along with the score–it’ll feature a new orchestration of the classic Soarin’ musical theme. Walt Disney Imagineering has captured more than a dozen breathtaking locations for the new flight.

Along your journey aboard Soarin’ Across America, you’ll glide above iconic urban and natural wonders, from the rugged New England coastline and the radiant welcome of New York Harbor to the vast expanse of Grand Canyon West.

The experience features so many quintessentially American settins, from the autumn colors of the heartland to the beauty of our bayous, great plains of the west, northern wilderness, and sunlit island shores.

A new musical arrangement by Bruce Broughton of the beloved Jerry Goldsmith Soarin’ themes underscores the adventure. Ride programming, wind, and more add to create a truly immersive experience.

All of this sounds fantastic to me. Having another arrangement of the iconic Soarin’ score should be great, and Bruce Broughton always delivers. He’s responsible for such gems as CineMagique, Ellen’s Energy Adventure, Spaceship Earth, Golden Dreams, Season of the Vine, and more.

Soarin’ Over California, which is one of DCA’s few remaining opening day attractions, returned for a limited run beginning February 6, 2026. The attraction returned earlier than normal for Disney California Adventure’s 25th Anniversary, and has already run longer than is typical, outlasting the DCA Food & Wine Festival.

Disneyland has now revealed that guests will be able to glide above the Golden State’s natural and man-made wonders through June 30, 2026.

On July 2, 2026, the all-new airborne adventure, Soarin’ Across America, will debut in celebration of America’s 250th anniversary.

There were previously questions about whether there would be a refurbishment or gap between the current version ending and Soarin’ Across America debuting.

This confirms only a single day of downtime. Soarin’ Over California will end on June 30, 2026 and Soarin’ Across America debuts on July 2, 2026. That leaves a single day for potential Cast Member previews or a media event, etc.

A quick refurbishment is also possible. The projectors could stand to be upgraded and/or cleaned, the queue refreshed, etc. It’s also possible that time is taken to put up a bit of thematic window-dressing in the queue and around the attraction, as EPCOT has already received.

With multiple theaters, previews are still possible for Soarin’ Across America at DCA.

We doubt that will happen, however. For one thing, the cat is already out of the bag with Soarin’ Across America. Cast Member previews are currently underway at EPCOT, where Soarin’ Across America officially opens on May 26, 2026.

At Walt Disney World Annual Passholders can preview Soarin’ Across America May 19-20, 2026. It’s highly likely there will be soft openings there. Over a full month later, Soarin’ Across America will be “old news.”

For another, taking a theater offline for regular guests in order to preview Soarin’ Across America to Disneyland Magic Keymasters and Cast Members would spike wait times for Soarin’ Over California at the end of its run and pose challenges with already-limited Lightning Lane inventory at DCA.

Whenever a theater goes offline, it’s very evident in wait times and backed-up lines. Doing so intentionally for multiple days just doesn’t seem like a smart operational choice. It’s possible that late June is expected to be slower and they could get away with it, especially with limited Lightning Lane distribution, but we’re skeptical.

Accordingly, we don’t expect any meaningful AP/DVC previews or soft openings for guests of Soarin’ Across America at DCA. The ride quietly opening a day early after an overnight switchover is a possibility, but it’s more likely that Disney uses that time for TLC, queue changes, or an internal event.

Soarin’ Across America is just one part of a new campaign called “Disney Celebrates America.” This kicked off on Veterans Day and continues through the July 4th weekend in 2026. This celebration will bring together Disney’s beloved brands to honor America’s past, celebrate the present, and inspire its future.

The celebration will culminate on the July 4th weekend with a 24-hour, multi-platform broadcast, “Disney Celebrates America,” highlighting America’s 250th anniversary events nationwide across Disney’s linear networks and streaming platforms, including Disney+, Hulu, ABC, ESPN and more.

That 24-hour broadcast ends with a special evening fireworks broadcast from Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort. It’s safe to assume it’ll also be highlighted by the debut of Soarin’ Across America at DCA.

What Disney has not announced is when Soarin’ Across America will end, and we’ve been getting questions about that from readers who are worried they only have this summer to experience the US Semiquincentennial Soarin’.

As explained in Why the Limited-Time Soarin’ Across America Will Have a Delayed Departure, that is highly unlikely. The short version of that article is that you likely have longer to experience the inaugural flights of the redone ride, as Disney wouldn’t have invested heavily in developing and filming Soarin’ Across America to then only show it for a few months.

While that article focuses on EPCOT, where a 12-18 month minimum initial run is anticipated, we also expect Soarin’ Across America to continue beyond Summer 2026 at Disneyland. We’re not quite as confident that it’ll last at least a full year at DCA in its maiden voyage, as a Disney Vault approach might be utilized, but we highly doubt Soarin’ Across America will have a brief run and then be done forever.

More likely is Disneyland bringing back Soarin’ Over California again for DCA’s Food & Wine Festival, and then running Soarin’ Across America again for Summer 2027. We could see this becoming the de facto summertime Soarin, depending upon its guest satisfaction scores versus the other versions.

Personally, I hope the run of Soarin’ Across America continues indefinitely by popular guest demand (because that’ll mean it’s actually good). At some point, I hope Over California is added to the list of departures–at both DCA and EPCOT–with guests having the option of choosing their own adventure. I am fine with Soarin’ Over the World returning at some point, but won’t be upset if it doesn’t.

Soarin’ Over California is one of the very few OG Disney’s California Adventure attractions that stands the test of time (right there with California Screamin’ and Grizzly River Run). The video still looks great, and the scents are as delightful as ever, and the flight is exhilarating and enjoyable. It’s the perfect family-friendly attraction. It’s better and more timeless than the newer Soarin’ Over the World. Here’s hoping Soarin’ Across America ranks as at least the second-best version of the attraction.

Your Thoughts

Are you looking forward to the debut of Soarin’ Across America? Surprised there won’t be lengthy previews of the new version, a la EPCOT? Do you hope that the latter is so good that it runs indefinitely? Would you prefer to see Soarin’ Over California or Soarin’ Around the World…or both? 1. Got to do the cast member preview today for Soarin across America. Loved how it started with the Artemis rocket launch and finished with red white and blue fireworks over a very patriotic Spaceship Earth. Great show – God bless the USA!
