Tokyo Disneyland Winter Trip Report
Our Tokyo Disneyland Winter Trip Report covers our January 2017 visit to Tokyo Disney Resort–consisting of Tokyo Disneyland, Tokyo DisneySea, and a variety of hotels and Ikspiari–just outside of the city of Tokyo, Japan. This visited occurred during “Sweet Duffy” and “Frozen Fantasy” seasons. In Japan, Frozen Fantasy takes on dual meaning; it is freezing in the winter–and occasionally snows!
This report covers our step by step experiences in both parks over the course of 4 days as we share some of our touring strategy, thoughts on attractions & dining, random anecdotes, and opinions along the way. If you don’t care what we have to say, that’s cool, too, as the report will also include hundreds of photos of Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea, with a variety of sunset and night photos.
While this trip report will be written in a way that allows you to join us vicariously, we’ve also included details (and plenty of links, all of which will open in new tabs/windows) for those of you doing your own trip planning to Tokyo Disney Resort. As we’ve now said countless times, Tokyo DisneySea is the #1 Disney park in the world, and Tokyo Disneyland is our #2. We strongly encourage any Disney fan with the resources and time try to take a trip to Japan. It’s a bucket list destination you won’t regret visiting!
Oh, and good news! I’ve learned from past mistakes and your feedback, and I’ve already written this entire report before posting any installments. Well, at least the first draft (I’m sure more text will be added once all of the photos are edited and inserted into the post). It’s currently 13,540 words long, making it just shorter than Animal Farm, and with 90% fewer talking animals and relevance in Orwellian reality. Yeah, but how many Olafs and Duffys does it have?! That’s what I thought.
I’ll be posting the trip report over the course of the next few weeks, with ‘release dates’ listed below…
Part 1 — If You Don’t Ski, Why Visit Japan In Winter?!
Part 2 — The Beauty of Tokyo DisneySea After Sunset
Part 3 – What Kind of ‘Fantasy’ Involves Frozen?
Part 4 – The Frozen Fantasy Parade!
Part 5 – Rope Dropping Duffy (Yes, Really.)
Part 6 – My Weird Love of Refurbishment Walls
Part 7 – The Great Snow Chase & Final Thoughts…

We would greatly appreciate it if you’d share any trip report posts that you like with your friends or via social media. As you may have gathered by now, we are incredibly passionate about Tokyo Disney Resort, which the most beautiful theme park in the world, and the more people we inspire to visit Japan, the better! We also love when readers leave comments on the trip reports…let’s us know people out there are reading!
Hi! Just commenting to say that the Part 6 link doesn’t work through this article. Still accessible through your feed and still searchable though.
Can we expect Tom Bricker’s Animal Farm featuring Duffy as Napoleon and Olaf as Snowball anytime soon?
No, but you can expect Tom Bricker’s Animal (Petting) Farm, featuring all of the goats dressed as Duffy.
Excited to read this report – we were also there in January and experienced Frozen Fantasy it will be cool to see someone else’s perspective on it! Oh also thanks again for your advice about the green pod, it allowed us to take awesome shots at Tokyo Disney we wouldn’t have been able to get otherwise!!
I will be visiting tokyo in mid march…i will be visiting disney sea on the last day of the 15 year celebration. I hope i will be able to do alot. Off hand i need some help with the tickets? I know there is no hopping except on the 3rd day right? How about do you know if there is any military discounts/perks? I believe there isn’t.
I think it’s cruel you make us wait for all the installments – what a tease! 😉 I need to binge-read all of the installments!
Netflix is making everyone even more impatient these days! 😉
I won’t lie, I’m excited to read Part 5!
My wife and I just got back from Aulani a few weeks ago. We may or may not have gone specifically for the Duffy and Shellie May meet n’ greet. They are our favorite characters hands down and it’s a bummer you can’t meet them in the U.S. parks!
Now that Hawaii’s off the bucket list – Tokyo is next! I’m sure I’ll be depending on your research to make the trip go smoothly!
Really looking forward to the series. I’ve enjoyed your Tokyo parks posts before. My kids loved the pictures of the interiors of the Duffy themed monorail from last year. I’m even starting to warm up to Duffy!
So excited to read this! It’s a dream of mine to visit the Tokyo parks 🙂
