Chef Gordon Ramsay & Earl of Sandwich Bringing New 1960s British Gastropub to Downtown Disney

Disney just announced that Chef Gordon Ramsay is taking his talents to Earl of Sandwich, opening an all-new 1960s British-themed gastropub called The Carnaby on the second level of the huge new restaurant coming to Disneyland Resort. Here are full details, fresh concept art, and more.

This new location in Downtown Disney, which has already added a lot of stellar new dining options in the last couple of years with more on the way, is called Gordon Ramsay at The Carnaby. As the location and name suggest, this British-themed gastropub comes from the creators of Earl of Sandwich and the highly decorated, world-famous Chef Gordon Ramsay.

The pub will bring the Brit pop energy of the swinging ‘60s London, along with a selection of Gordon Ramsay’s iconic and delicious British classic dishes delivers culinary star power. Gordon Ramsay at The Carnaby will be located atop the new Earl of Sandwich and is poised to be a great gathering spot for tourists and Californians seeking an eclectic blend of British hospitality and elevated pub favorites.

Guests will step into a space inspired by London’s famed Carnaby Street during the height of the ‘60s cultural revolution. The interior will feature plush seating, iconic British pop art, and an irresistible soundtrack of “British Invasion” rock bands–all transporting patrons to a groovier, more glamorous time.

Soak in the sights from two stylish outdoor terraces, gather at the lively bar area, or cozy into booths, while savoring Gordon Ramsay’s globally-renowned cuisine. The menu will pay homage to classic British fare, including Chef Ramsay’s legendary beef Wellington, crisp and tender fish and chips, and decadent sticky toffee pudding.

To complement Carnaby’s cuisine, the restaurant will offer a wide-ranging list of wines and beers, as well as a selection of signature cocktails, each crafted to evoke London’s most iconic pubs and lounges.

“All eyes were on London in the 1960s, a full on fantastic technicolour scene of people going out and having fun. We are bringing those cool vibes to Gordon Ramsay at The Carnaby,” Chef Ramsay said. “Stunning interiors, incredible food and great music, whether it’s date night or dinner with friends or family, The Carnaby is going to bring the very best of cool Britannia to Downtown Disney District.”

Gordon Ramsay at The Carnaby will also come alive after dark with live music on select evenings. Keep the evening swinging with themed performances carrying the energy of the ‘60s, making it the perfect destination for both dinner and a night out.

Chef Ramsay’s new location adds to other notable chefs who have or will have a presence at Downtown Disney including Carlos Gaytán of Paseo, Céntrico and Tiendita, and Joe Isidori of the upcoming Arthur & Sons Steak and Bourbon, and Pearl’s Roadside BBQ.

Gordon Ramsay at The Carnaby also comes at what has been an, ahem, tumultuous few years for Earl of Sandwich at Disneyland Resort. The sandwich shop went from being evicted from their signature location for the proposed (but cancelled) luxury hotel to having two temporary locations.

There was one point earlier this year when Earl of Sandwich seemed poised to lose both temporary locations, as construction was slated to begin on Porto’s Bakery, but that was delayed–both the closure and construction–yet again. All the while, construction crews have been working on the massive two-story Earl of Sandwich location that looks likely to open in 2026 over by Parkside Market (near the original Earl of Sandwich shop).

My recap of this saga really doesn’t do it justice. The turnaround times on the Earl of Sandwich news have been comically absurd, as if some Disneyland executive has Lord John Montagu, the 11th Earl of Sandwich, on speed dial and calls him up for pinch hitting sandwich duties every time Downtown Disney has problems with other tenants.

When La Brea Bakery abruptly closed, Earl stepped up to the plate within hours. When Porto’s delayed construction, Earl immediately extended operations. That pop-up pod has ping-ponged between being open and closed based on other operational needs of Disneyland. It’s been amusing to watch this saga.

It’s great to see Disneyland finally reciprocate in this relationship, and facilitate the permanent placement of a formidable sandwich shop in Downtown Disney. We’re really looking forward to this two-story Earl of Sandwich, which should finally open in 2026.

The new Gordon Ramsay at The Carnaby and Earl of Sandwich two-story shop reminds me a bit of the location at Disneyland Paris, except modernized. That’s easily the restaurant at which we’ve dined most at DLP, largely because it’s one of the few restaurants at the resort that doesn’t close at like 4:30 pm.

Like the Tavern at Disneyland, the Earl of Sandwich location at Disneyland Paris also serves (or served, if the current online menu is accurate) a variety of non-sandwich options. We’d expect Gordon Ramsay at The Carnaby to similarly fill this role, having a more ambitious menu befitting of both Chef Ramsay and its status as a gastropub.

Our only real trepidation with this is pricing. We haven’t done a standalone review, but the nearby Parkside Market is pricey. It’s a lovely location, especially the open air second floor, but the food is wildly overpriced. And it doesn’t help that Parkside Market is basically airport food.

Parkside Market is not on par with the other new options like Paseo, Centrico, or Din Tai Fung (everyone’s favorite). All of those are also pricey, but worth it. As much as we enjoy Din Tai Fung, Centrico is probably our sleeper pick as the best of the bunch and where we dine most often, and it’s not really that expensive.

Ultimately, our hope is that Gordon Ramsay at The Carnaby can match the atmospheric quality of Parkside Market’s second floor with the cuisine caliber of Centrico, but while bringing something unique to the table as a 1960s inspired British gastropub. As the title suggests, this has the potential to be a winning combo, and one of the best restaurant concepts in Downtown Disney’s ever-improving dining scene. Again, we can’t wait!

  1. About 10 years ago, we ate at “Earl of Sandwich” with our then 5 year old granddaughter, during her first WDW trip. Stayed at Caribbean Beach that time. Had the WORST case of food poisoning all through the night. Disney transported me to Celebration Hospital, and the Dr confirmed not just food poisoning, but the worst type (there are several). Wanted to admit me, but I just wanted to get back to our granddaughter and not ruin her trip! Since this occurred (luckily) the night before we were to leave for home, Disney came in and thoroughly cleaned our room while my husband and granddaughter were at the pool, nd gave us the room for one more night for me to recover! It shall be forever known as “Hurl of Sandwich” to us- we haven’t been back!

  2. Excited for this for sure. And Tom, your fondness for Centrico ALMOST makes me want to give it another shake. We tried it our first visit back after it opened and were really disappointed—2 house margaritas and guacamole with chips was close to $80 before tip—-‍

    1. We love Centrico for the food, much of which is actually reasonably priced by DtD standards. Can’t speak to the drinks–but yikes to that bill!

  3. Awesome. The DLP location is great. DTD needs one. I don’t love any of the current dtd table service or quick service. A big affordable and yummy sandwich shop thru there will be perfect.

  4. Gordon Ramsay will have zero input or involvement beyond selling his name and maybe doing a photo call before grand opening btw. Puts his name on all sorts of tat. Airport diners worse than the places he rips apart on TV, bad ready meals, things of that nature

Also, if it was actually ‘inspired by’ British pub food of the 1960s it will close within a month. Chicken-in-a-basket has died out for a reason

  5. This is amazing news! Now I wish they’d turn the Simba and Lilo parking lots into underground parking or structures and expand DTD into those spaces, too. So much space wasted on ugly parking lots, and so much potential to turn DTD into an actual formidable shopping/dining/entertainment district to compete with local malls.

  6. Well, this is a sucker punch for my family and me. British Gastropub themed to Swinging London and musicians being paid to play that style of music? Sign me up. Depending on how soon it opens, it may be a must do on our next trip. I have a love/hate relationship with Gordon Ramsay; which I feel is exactly what he wants.
This is a huge plus for Downtown Disney either way.

    1. “I have a love/hate relationship with Gordon Ramsay; which I feel is exactly what he wants.”

      Ditto this, on both counts.

  7. I’m certainly glad Chef Ramsay is stepping in to help Earl out in non-sandwich business. La Brea left Earl a pizza oven, which Earl misguidedly used to make pizzas that taste almost but not quite exactly unlike pizza. Even their branch out to the Tavern was fraught with carelessness. I’m fairly certain if you take a picture of the Tavern breakfast burrito and post it online, it immediately joins a YouTube comments section and begins insulting people’s grandmothers. At least when Ramsay insults you, he does it to your face, and very British-ly (on-theme).
Parkside is expensive, but, to borrow a phrase from Special Agent Cooper, that’s damn fine coffee at Sip & Sonder, and the upstairs bar hasn’t yet got the memo that you’re supposed to charge $15 for a Modelo. I am hoping that when third generation Earl and Earl Ramsay open, second generation Earl, Earl “Pizza” Counter, Earl Tavern, and Trailer Earl are all still open, which would make for six Earls, further driving Yelp users bonkers.
Not applicable to anything, but the concept art you shared makes me want to put green diamonds over the people’s heads.

    1. Oh, and I haven’t tried the pizza or breakfast burrito at the tavern (thankfully, I guess), but I agree wholeheartedly about the coffee at Sip & Sonder. Probably the best I’ve had in all of DLR.
