Cinderella Castle At Main Street’s End

Cinderella Castle is such a beautiful sight at the end of Main Street, USA, especially at night after the Magic Kingdom has cleared of guests following a long day at Walt Disney World. This shot “from the archives” is actually from one of the longest days–and best days–at Walt Disney World: the first day of our “Disneymoon” (Disney honeymoon) in June 2010. We hadn’t gotten much sleep following our wedding, as we had to get to Midway in Chicago by around 5 am the next morning. Then we spent all day in the parks, with the Magic Kingdom closing at 3 am following evening Extra Magic Hours. We finally made our way out of the Magic Kingdom after 4 am(!), completing over 24 consecutive hours of being awake (well, minus a short nap on the plane and another when we arrived at our hotel–but “24 consecutive” sounds better, right?!). It was an amazing day with an amazing new wife, and not once during that day did I feel tired!

I made this trip into my archives to look for photos taken with the Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 VR lens, (I borrowed it from my uncle for that trip) as I wanted to “prove” that I should purchase it instead of the Tamron or Sigma 70-200mm lenses. Those of you who listen to ISO 5571 – Disney Photography Podcast or follow me on Twitter probably are aware that I upgraded to a full frame Nikon D700. As part of this upgrade, I’ve been totally overhauling my camera bag, selling off my old lenses for high quality full frame glass. Today I completed that overhaul with the Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8. After comparing shots with it to the Tamron 70-200 (that I’ve also used), the decision was a no-brainer. Now I can’t wait to get to the parks with these new lenses and camera–and I also can’t wait to share the photos I take with this new equipment with you all. Gear doesn’t make a photographer, but it certainly helps! I think this new equipment will really help me step up my game!!!

Technical Details: Nikon D90 and Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 VR.
