Disney World Reducing New Animation Attraction By 4 Hours Per Day 2 Weeks After Opening

Walt Disney World’s last major new attraction of 2026, The Magic of Disney Animation, soft opened over the weekend ahead of its scheduled debut on September 14, 2026! While the experience has been hugely popular thus far, the official WDW calendar reveals its hours will soon be reduced. Here are full details, plus why we’re not completely convinced this ‘cutback’ reflects the final hours for Fall 2026 and beyond.

As basic background, The Magic of Disney Animation is a multi-attraction experience in the Walt Disney Studios Lot, which is a reimagining of Animation Courtyard at DHS. The outdoor area debuted at the start of summer. Since it’s just a courtyard, it’s open daily from Early Entry to park closing; in the event that they’re held, it’s also available during Extended Evening Hours.

The Roy E. Disney Animation Building houses a ‘what’s old is new again‘ return of “The Magic of Disney Animation,” but with all-new experiences that replace the defunct Star Wars Launch Bay. The Magic of Disney Animation features the Once Upon a Studio Theater, Olaf Draws Animation Academy, Drawn to Wonderland Play Area, and “Off the Page” Character Meet & Greets. All of that soft opened on Friday, remains open as of Sunday.

Mid-September Magic of Disney Animation Hours

As of Sunday, September 13, 2026, the Magic of Disney Animation (MoDA) is listed on the official Walt Disney World website and My Disney Experience app as being open from 9 am until 9 pm. This schedule continues tomorrow, on the attraction’s grand opening day, and through September 17, 2026. On all of those dates, MoDA is open from 9 am until 9 pm.

Next Saturday and Sunday, the hours see an extension with an “earlier” opening at 8:30 am. Really though, that’s just a reflection of Disney’s Hollywood Studios opening earlier. The actual cadence is park opening through park closing every day from now through September 27, 2026. On all of those dates, the attraction opens with the park at 8:30 or 9 am, and continues operating until 9 pm.

Additionally, the Magic of Disney Animation is not currently scheduled to operate during Early Entry or Extended Evening Hours. Park hours are ‘final’ through October 3, 2026, so we don’t expect any extensions.

Reduced Hours for the Magic of Disney Animation

Starting Monday, September 28, 2026, exactly two weeks after the experience opens, the Magic of Disney Animation sees its operating hours reduced by 4 hours per day (or 4.5 hours as compared to next weekend).

Beginning on that date and continuing through at least mid-November 2026 (as far out as the calendar currently goes), the Magic of Disney Animation will be open daily from 10 am to 6 pm. That’s one hour after rope drop through early evening.

As longtime fans no doubt know, attractions that are walk-through or exhibit-based routinely have delayed openings and early closings. However, nearby Walt Disney Presents currently opens with the park and closes at 8 pm.

Just to be clear, it’s not as if these shorter hours are stop-the-presses news or an early signal that Walt Disney World believes the Magic of Disney Animation will fall flat with fans or see its popularity fizzle out in only the span of two weeks.

There are a few things worth noting here. The first is that this attraction isn’t even officially open yet! It is not the least bit surprising that Walt Disney World would start by setting conservative operating hours that are in line with other walk-through experiences, and then expand them as necessary. As we point out in countless posts, Disney’s standard practice is to post “boilerplate” hours and then extend based on demand projections.

Conversely, hours are almost never reduced from their baselines. It would make sense to see how the first two weeks play out, and then extend MoDA hours as necessary, if necessary, based on “popular guest demand.” It wouldn’t be the first time that’s happened, nor the last. This isn’t to say it definitely will happen, just that it wouldn’t surprise us in the least if it did.

Moreover, there are clearly internal expectations that at least one attraction in the Magic of Disney Animation is going to be popular, given that Walt Disney World already has plans to use a virtual queue as needed for Olaf Draws.

Due to its low hourly capacity, Audio Animatronics Olaf, and high repeatability, we expect Olaf Draws to have a degree of staying power, long after the first two weeks are over. I still expect it to be very popular, even during the off-season. Then it’s fall break in a few weeks…followed shortly thereafter by Veterans Day/Jersey Week, Thanksgiving, etc.

While it won’t be like the first week or so, there’s no reason to expect demand to drop dramatically for The Magic of Disney Animation at all this year. And while we could see the ‘surprise & delight’ character free play ending by or before 6 pm, it honestly wouldn’t surprise us if even the “Off the Page” meet & greets ended up being open later. For reference, Red Carpet Dreams currently opens with the park and closes at 8 pm.

The bottom line is that we actually do not expect the Magic of Disney Animation to only operate from 10 am to 6 pm with regularity for the remainder of 2026. Perhaps it will for a period during the late September offseason, either due to staffing already being locked-in or Walt Disney World wanting to assess whether those hours are sufficient to satisfy guest demand.

Zooming out, it’s hard to imagine this brand-new experience keeping shorter hours than the older Walt Disney Presents or Red Carpet Dreams. Especially when Walt Disney World is talking about using a virtual queue for one of the experiences within the building.

If it is a staffing issue, they’ll eventually reallocate resources from other mid-tier experiences and exhibits in Disney’s Hollywood Studios to the Magic of Disney Animation. It’s new, has prominent placement in the park, and offers a good amount of crowd-absorbing capacity via varied experiences.

I would be at least somewhat surprised if MoDA is only open from 10 am until 6 pm over Columbus Day weekend, Jersey Week, Thanksgiving, etc.

Its popularity will fizzle out to some extent between now and then, which is only natural, but we’ve already seen the courtyard demonstrate tremendous staying power since opening at the start of summer.

It’s safe to assume that will only be more true in the final few months of the year now that the inside of the building is open. And perhaps we can all help ‘move the needle’ on this one by venturing into the Magic of Disney Animation after 6 pm over the next couple of weeks, as opposed to during the middle of the day!

Drawn to Wonderland Play Area

Younger animators-to-be can step into the whimsical world of “Drawn to Wonderland,” an indoor playground inspired by the original Alice in Wonderland concept art from Disney Legend Mary Blair.

From the playful chaos of the Mad Tea Party and Mad Hatter’s house to the Queen of Hearts’ vibrant rose garden and the Cheshire Cat’s mysterious Tulgey Wood, the area invites young guests to explore. Kids will be able to climb, wander, and create their own adventures in this new playground.

Walt Disney World needs more well-done playgrounds, and DHS needs more for young families. This adds one that’s also indoors, which makes it an outsized win for parents of toddlers! At the same time, it is physically a bit undersized.

Off the Page Character Meet & Greets

You’ll also be able to venture into “Off the Page!” This is an area where you can meet some of your favorite friends from Walt Disney Animation Studios stories while celebrating the artistry behind every frame. Characters in “Off the Page” include:

• Mulan in Story
• Rapunzel in Layout
• Chip ‘n’ Dale in Hand-Drawn Animation
• Donald and Daisy in CG Animation
• Goofy in Lighting
• Stitch in Effects

It’s entirely possible that, even if hours are extended for MoDA as a whole, the meet & greets will wrap up earlier. That’s a lot of extra staffing for the last 3 hours of the day. (Although the location does use some automated cameras for photos.)

Olaf Draws!

Step into a new Animation Academy experience with Olaf Draws!, where everyone’s favorite snowman takes center stage as your cheerful host. With his signature warmth, optimism, and playful humor, Olaf invites guests of all ages to explore the art of character drawing.

Brought to life as an all-new Audio-Animatronics figure, Olaf welcomes you into a space inspired by one of his most memorable moments from Once Upon A Studio sitting at an animator’s desk, joyfully discovering the art of drawing.
Stepping into a reimagined animator’s studio with playful nods to Frozen, guests of all ages are invited to sit down and learn to draw.

You’ll go step-by-step through the creative process, guided by Disney Animation artists who interact with Olaf and share tips, techniques, and stories from inside the studio. It’s a fun and funny learning experience that is enjoyable both as an interactive animation lesson and just as a passive attraction.

Young animators in the making can spark their creativity at sleigh‑themed tables (our daughter loved sitting in these), while animator‑desk–style workstations invite kids at heart to feel as though they’ve stepped right into the studio.

The Olaf Audio Animatronics is awesome and kids will love it, but the lack live animators is a definite loss. Everything else about this reimagining is an unequivocal win, so it’s disappointing to see the otherwise warm and welcoming reimagining tainted by losing the human touch.

Once Upon a Studio & More

In the Once Upon A Studio Theater, you can enjoy the Emmy Award-winning short film that inspired it all, Once Upon A Studio. Inside this dedicated theater honoring more than a century of Disney Animation storytelling, enhanced effects add an extra layer of magic.

As you enjoy the film, you may spot characters popping up within the artwork along the theater walls, placing you right in the middle of the story. You can also discover an enchanted art gallery outside the theater, with characters springing to life in all-new animations and interactive ‘images.’

Ultimately, the Magic of Disney Animation is another strong ‘singles & doubles’ addition. This area has gone from one of our least-favorite in all of Walt Disney World to one where our family is going to be spending a lot of time in the next few years.

I’m already looking forward to more time in the Magic of Disney Animation! Let’s just hope some of those hours can be in the evening, because we’ve found that there are few things better for our bedtime routine than running around a playground for an hour or so in the early evening.
