New Magic Happens Daytime Parade Announced

Disney has announced that the new Magic Happens daytime parade will debut at Disneyland in Spring 2020. This will be led by Mickey Mouse, featuring Coco, Moana, princesses, and other characters. In this post, we’ll share details and offer brief thoughts about it.

The announcement of the new Magic Happens Parade was announced at the 2019 D23 Expo by Disney Parks, Experiences and Products chairman Bob Chapek, who indicated that Magic Happens will celebrate awe-inspiring moments of magic from many Disney stories, reminding us we don’t need wings to fly, shooting stars were made to wish upon, and magic doesn’t stop at midnight.

Magic Happens will feature an energetic musical score and a new song produced in partnership with by singer-songwriter Todrick Hall. The high-energy music combines this original song with classic Disney music for a contemporary twist on beloved favorites. The Magic Happens theme song was performed at the D23 Expo, and it sounds like that’s pretty apt–it should be quite the ear-worm…

The Magic Happens daytime parade at Disneyland will feature stunning floats, beautiful costumes, and beloved Disney characters, starting with Mickey Mouse and pals.

Here’s a rundown of what was revealed in terms of specific Magic Happens parade units and floats…

On her voyager wa‘a (or canoe), Moana journeys forth on the crest of a beautiful wave, inspired by beautiful koa wood carvings inset with LED panels, providing a dazzling glimpse into the magic the ocean holds.

Next up, Miguel strums the guitar of Ernesto de la Cruz on a float inspired by the Pixar film “Coco.” This float bridges the Land of the Living and the Land of the Dead with vibrant marigolds, fantastical alebrije spirit animals, and Miguel’s dog Danté.

The regal grand finale of the Magic Happens Parade celebrates magical moments from classic Disney fairytales.

This will be highlighted by the trio of fairies from Sleeping Beauty who transform Princess Aurora’s gown from pink to blue and back again.

This is the first piece of news to come out of the 2019 D23 Expo after the perfunctory opening remarks and remarks about the success and excitement about Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland, plus a cool video showing some footage from Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance.

We don’t have much of a reaction to this new Magic Happens Parade. It’s nice to hear that Disneyland is getting a new daytime parade, and it’s also good to hear that both Coco and Moana are going to be in the mix. This parade has been rumored for the last several months, and if reports about other floats are accurate, we could be in for a treat with a mix of underutilized classic and modern animated films. Let’s hope that turns out to be true!
