This list of open & closed in-park restaurants at Disneyland and Disney California Adventure, plus hotel dining at the Grand Californian, covers what’s operating post-reopening, what’s temporarily unavailable, and why. This is updated regularly, with info on what’s coming soon and more. (Updated July 15, 2021.)
The bad news is that several major eateries are still shuttered at Disneyland and DCA, even following the reopening of the parks. There are some surprises on these lists in terms of what’s opening, what’s remaining closed, and what modifications will be made. Below, we also offer commentary as to why some very popular spots are not opening.
The good news is that Disneyland Resort continues its phased reopening at a quick pace, with the fourth “round” of restaurant reopenings slated to occur starting July 22, 2021 (see update section below). This includes Carthay Circle Restaurant and character dining at Disneyland!
It’s possible that some locations will end up being open seasonally, or as demand dictates, after a few months. It’s unlikely Disneyland will have any attendance difficulties post-reopening, like Walt Disney World did, but as we’ve seen over the last year, anything is possible. In other words, check individual restaurant pages on Disneyland.com for exact operating hours and days of the week.
It’s also worth noting that the vast majority of Disneyland Resort restaurants do not have full menus. Most serve about half of the options they offered pre-closure, and it’s often the more ambitious and labor or ingredient intensive items that have been removed. In other words, if you want standard theme park fare like burgers or pizza, you’re fine. The more interesting stuff–along with many unique snacks–remain temporarily unavailable. So check menus before you commit!
Reservations for in-park restaurants at Disneyland and Disney California Adventure are now available! Keep in mind that the majority of in-park table service restaurants are temporarily unavailable.
At most, you’re probably looking at 4 restaurants with availability, nothing near the 83 advertised at the top of the screen. (We’d thus encourage you to book quickly.) Additionally, the options do not expand after June 15, meaning that Disneyland has not yet loaded the expanded slate into the system. You can check reservation availability here.
July 15, 2021 Update: Disney has announced more restaurants are joining the reopening list in the parks starting next week and into August 2021. This latest update leaves only a couple high-profile restaurants at Disneyland Resort without reopening dates!
- Plaza Inn – Breakfast in the Park with Minnie & Friends (Opening August 12, 2021; bookings available soon)
- The Golden Horseshoe (Opening July 29, 2021)
Disney California Adventure Park
- Carthay Circle Restaurant (Upstairs opening July 22; bookings available July 20)
Disney’s Grand California Hotel & Spa
- Storytellers Café – Mickey’s Tales of Adventure Breakfast (Daily breakfast; weekend brunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m Friday through Sunday; opening July 22; bookings available July 20)
Disneyland has not yet indicated whether the character breakfasts at Storytellers Cafe and Plaza Inn will be modified. Our expectation is that both will follow the lead of Walt Disney World, with physically distanced character encounters and family-style food. However, neither are strictly necessary at this point, and the fact that Disney announced these without any caveats about modifications gives us a flicker of hope.
Another concern is that Plaza Inn will retain its absolutely random and delightfully bonkers sensibility. You can see and read about that in our full Review of Breakfast in the Park with Minnie and Friends. We’re also big fans of the Storytellers Cafe breakfast; our full Review of Mickey’s Tales of Adventure Breakfast takes a look at the unique character outfits and other highlights.

Ultimately, it’s great to see the list of “open” restaurants continue to grow, while the “closed” lists shrink. At this point, the only restaurants we’d really love to see return are Carnation Cafe, Pacific Wharf Cafe, Paradise Garden Grill, and BoardWalk Pizza & Pasta. Honestly, though, the far bigger deal is the incomplete menus and Mobile Order wait times. Even those things are starting to get resolved, which is great.
This is all happening at a much faster pace than Walt Disney World’s phased reopening, which is unsurprising. The Florida parks opened last summer in a totally different environment, and that operation is considerably larger and more complex. Nevertheless, it’s great to see Disneyland Resort approaching “normal” much sooner. We’d expect most, if not all, remaining restaurants to be back by August 2021 at this pace. Stay tuned for future updates!
