Disney World Dining News: Spyglass Grill Reopening & Easter Food

A lot of these Easter items (mostly desserts) actually look pretty good, and it’s refreshing to see a full lineup of seasonal foods. Easter is not a particularly big deal at Walt Disney World, so this is a relatively formidable slate of offerings for what’s essentially a ‘minor’ holiday. I just looked back at the Easter 2019 food announcement, and there’s actually more this year (minus some Easter Sunday brunches that are absent). This is the first time that’s been the case since reopening.
But that’s not why we are here today. Hidden in that announcement is a single line that stood out: “Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort – Spyglass Grill. This location will be opening its doors once again on April 14!”
We’ve been singing the praises of Spyglass Grill since it opened, so regular readers of this blog are probably already familiar with it. If not, it’s located by the Trinidad quiet pool in a nondescript pink building, that could just as easily be confused for a simple picnic area.
Since restaurants started reopening at Walt Disney World, I’ve expressed fear in various posts that Spyglass Grill would never return. This might seem irrational, but I don’t think that’s the case. Spyglass Grill originally opened during the resort’s reimagining, at a time when the only alternatives were a couple of temporary food trucks and a giant tent. (No joke.)
Since then, a lot has debuted or returned, from Sebastian’s Bistro to Centertown Market. As such, my concern was that the company might view Spyglass Grill as expendable, unnecessary, or not meeting performance targets since it’s in such a tucked away location.
I am so glad to have been wrong about that.
Still, Spyglass Grill is one of those low priority, late-stage returns that signals to me that Walt Disney World is BACK. That might seem silly, and of course everything hasn’t returned for a variety of reasons. But if something this small is returning, full normalcy is (more or less) on the horizon.
As for why I love Spyglass Grill so much: because it’s awesome. That’s the obvious answer. The small menu packs a powerful punch, with a number of solid (and reasonably priced) items for breakfast, lunch and dinner. In particular, the Chorizo Burger is one of the best burgers at Walt Disney World. (Assuming it returns, which remains to be seen.)
The full answer is that it became a sentimental favorite back in 2018-2019 when I was at Caribbean Beach more than once per month doing updates on the resort reimagining, Riviera construction, and Skyliner gondola progress. During many of those visits, Spyglass Grill was my go-to meal (and often shelter from a passing storm). I’ve probably had more of their Chorizo Burgers than anyone who doesn’t work at Caribbean Beach.
I’ve tried to convince readers of this site to give Spyglass Grill a try, but there’s been very little enthusiasm for it. Our original review, Good Food Returns to Caribbean Beach Resort: Spyglass Grill Review, still only has 8 comments, and that’s in spite of me repeatedly ‘pushing’ it over the years in other posts. (Like here!)
We also named Spyglass Grill to our list of the Top 5 Counter Service Restaurants You’ve Never Tried at Walt Disney World and have recommended it in countless other posts. Unfortunately, it has remained much more of a hidden gem among Walt Disney World fans than even Sanaa or nearby Sebastian’s Bistro.
Ultimately, maybe this is part of why I love Spyglass Grill so much. At a time when there’s an information overload about Walt Disney World and so many people praise particular restaurants as being under the radar (like Sanaa), Spyglass Grill actually is a secret spot. I’d hazard a guess that most Walt Disney World fans have never even heard of it, much less dined there. On the one hand, that makes its fans part of an exclusive club. On the other hand, that’s probably why it took 2 years to return. This is why, on balance, I’d really love for more Walt Disney World fans to join our club of Spyglass Grill lovers and make it not-so-exclusive! 🙂

YOUR THOUGHTS
Have you dined at Spyglass Grill? If so, what did you order? Think this is truly a ‘secret spot’ worthy of my praise, or is it just an ordinary, poolside eatery at Walt Disney World? If you haven’t dined here, will you be “joining the club” after Spyglass Grill reopens? Any questions we can help you answer? Hearing feedback about your experiences is both interesting to us and helpful to other readers, so please share your thoughts below in the comments!
I too LOVE the Spyglass Grill. My family has stayed at numerous wdw resorts both moderate and deluxe. A few years ago we stayed at CBR and our room was located near the Spyglass. The quick service food there was excellent. From fish tacos, to fresh salads with quality ingredients to delicious specialty pancakes. We ate there once per day during that trip.
On subsequent trips, we’ve taken the time to take a ride on the gondolas, to go to the CBR just to stop at the Spyglass grill! The menu changes a bit, but everything was always a notch above most other wdw quick service food we’ve ever had.
I’m so glad to hear its back! I was a little worried it wouldn’t come back and that would have been a shame. It’s a true wdw gem.

Pgh pa.
We will be there in June, can’t wait to try it!!
I was looking forward to visiting Spyglass on my next trip based on your review, but it looks like the menu’s been gutted now. No Cream Cheese Guava-stuffed French Toast and Pineapple-Banana Pancakes. No Chorizo Burger. Pretty disappointing if the current menu is correct.
The Spyglass was a nice, hidden gem until it was mentioned here, again! Now there will be long lines and waits! When you find another hidden treasure, just send me a personal text, not the whole world.
Thanks for the recommendation! I’m staying at BWV and currently planning a day of Skyliner resort hopping for food and drinks. This will definitely work its way into the rotation!
Spyglass tacos are some of the best tacos I’ve ever had! I think about them often
I love Spyglass Grill! It’s one of our favorite counter service places at all of WDW. Easy break from Epcot on the Skyliner.
Thanks for the report Tom. Been wanting to try both Spyglass and Sebastians from your reports. Failed at getting ADR for Sebastians in May, so will definitely check out Spyglass
Spyglass Grill has THREE plant-based options for breakfast and lunch/dinner! That’s fantastic! I think that might be more than the total number of plant-based options at Festival of the Arts… Hopefully they’ll all stick around through at least May.
I discovered Spyglass Grill within a couple days of it’s original opening after walking over from Pop Century on a back road into Caribbean Beach. I was stunned to see a restaurant in what looked like a normal pool area building.
I immediately became attached to it, especially considering Caribbean Beach was my first-ever Walt Disney World Hotel way back in 1991.
I’ve made many stops there since then.
I’m so glad it’s reopened, and look forward to “Skylining” over from my Boardwalk Villa for a meal in early June.
My husband and I ate there pre COVID so we are excited to hear it is reopening. We will be there the last week of May so that will be added to our list of places to eat. Definitely a hidden gem
Have to bring up two pictures – Precariously perched Burger and French Toast.
I hope they both survived the photo and any sudden wind gust
Finally I have been waiting for Spy Glass to open ever since we moved here to try the Chorizo burger. I can’t wait to dig in!
We just switched our May dates to CBR yesterday from POP. Hopefully that was what it took! Do the do breakfast?
My family and I have a trip planned in December, staying at Pop Century. I’m so glad to hear Spyglass Grill is reopening. I’ve been wanting to try it!
When we stayed at CBR we loved both the Spyglass Grill and Sebastians. They’re a little walk from the Skyliner but a beautiful one.
I’d like to add Good’s Food To Go next to the Gurgling Suitcase to that list of little known spots. It’s not adventurous (sometimes I just feel like a Tuna sandwich) but everything’s very reasonably priced. You can get some of the same offerings from Olivia’s for less there plus they make their own fried chips that are sensational.
BUT TRUTH #1 WDW won’t be back till the trains run.
“BUT TRUTH #1 WDW won’t be back till the trains run.”
Haha, while I TOTALLY agree with the underlying sentiment here, the trains were gone long before the closure. So you could say that Walt Disney World has been closed for almost 4 years now! 😉
Also agree about the OKW dining. Reminds me that I need to get back there, as I’m pretty sure there are a few new menu items I’ve been meaning to eat…
A lot of those Easter treats look awesome, but since I won’t be around until May there’s no sense in tormenting myself with them. However, Spyglass Grill WILL be around in May so it’s definitely the more exciting part of this post! I’m planning to hop between Hollywood Studios and Epcot anyway, maybe it’ll be a good time to give it a try…
You might want to check the menu before making the trek. Hopefully more is added back by then.
Spyglass Grill does look great! We would love to try other resort restaurants again, but with tacking an Uber/Minnie Van charge on top of the meal, we usually eat at the parks or the resort we’re staying in/can easily walk to. Hopefully, hotel-to-hotel transportation options will continue to improve leading up to the summer season.
It’s easy to access from the main Skyliner station–right across the water!
That Chorizo Burger sounds amazing, but doesn’t look to be on the menu they are currently sharing on the Disney website. They are listing the 50th anniversary refillable mug so there have been at least some updates to what is there. I guess time will tell. Looking forward to reading your reports!
Well, that’s a bummer. That’s definitely the new/current menu; it’s totally different as compared to what was there this morning when I started this post. They’ve also removed my favorite breakfast item. 🙁
Darn! For everything they give, they take something away. Hope if any of the options listed are new, they end up being enjoyable.
Okay okay I’ll try it next time I’m there!
