Disney Reveals New Haunted Mansion Street Party for 2026 Oogie Boogie Bash, Replacing Halloween Parade

Disneyland has announced new details about the 2026 Oogie Boogie Bash – A Disney Halloween Party, which will begin in mid-August and run through October 31. Here are the major changes to the event, which includes the introduction of the new “Madame Leota’s Swinging Wake – A Haunted Mansion Street Party,” what’s causing this to replace the full parade, and additional commentary.

As a reminder, the 2026 Oogie Boogie Bash (OBB) begins a few days before the rest of the Halloween Time festivities at Disneyland. The first Oogie Boogie Bash – A Disney Halloween Party is on August 18, 2026. The special event will be held on a record 33 nights from August through October, which is 2 more dates than last year (also a record). The previous year, OBB was held 27 times, which was also a record at the time.

Disneyland has now released full details about the upcoming spook season, which sees a number of changes along with plenty of returning fan-favorites and starts on August 21, 2026. It’s safe to expect some soft openings a few days earlier, especially for anything at DCA that’s advertised as being part of Oogie Boogie Bash. Turning to the changes, let’s start with the bad news. It appears that our previous suspicions have been confirmed, and Frightfully Fun Parade will not be presented at the 2026 Oogie Boogie Bash. It’s missing from the confirmed entertainment on both the official Oogie Boogie Bash website, which was just updated and is otherwise comprehensive as to what is being presented at the party.

Frightfully Fun Parade is likewise a conspicuous omission from Disneyland’s lengthy Halloween 2026 press release, which otherwise includes details about everything from a new sandwich to merchandise and more. We don’t expect Disney to proactively announce Frightfully Fun Parade is not returning; its absence is the de facto version of that.

Frightfully Fun Parade Pausing

Frightfully Fun Parade has been a staple of the special event since it was Mickey’s Halloween Party at Disneyland. It was a marquee piece of entertainment that was presented twice nightly during Oogie Boogie Bash every year until 2026. Frightfully Fun Parade is similar to Boo to You Parade at Walt Disney World, albeit it shorter and a tad darker.

Frightfully Fun Parade begins with the Headless Horseman of Sleepy Hollow carrying his flickering jack-o-lantern. Following a number of characters, the highlight of the parade appears: Jack Skellington, the Pumpkin King, who brings greetings from Halloweentown, as characters from “Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas” appear. Following that, Grim grinning ghosts come out to socialize and bring Disney’s iconic Haunted Mansion attraction to life.

From there, Dr. Facilier uses his mystical powers to summon the Shadow Men from the bayou to loom large over his strange and twisted Voodoo parlor in one of the parade’s spookier units. Finally, the mischievous Disney Villains appear out of the darkness, with a dungeon-like lair and a wicked gathering of villainy including Hades, Evil Queen, Jafar, Cruella, and more.

Frightfully Fun Parade was a good, but not great, parade. It was much shorter than Boo to You, and felt like either a glorified cavalcade or a mini parade (depending upon your perspective) by comparison. Past tense probably isn’t appropriate here, as  Frightfully Fun Parade is not being officially retired. To the contrary, we fully expect it to return down the road. It’s more a matter of when, not if.

Coco Construction

Frightfully Fun Parade won’t be presented at the 2026 Oogie Boogie Bash due to backstage construction on the new Coco attraction, which has taken the DCA parade route out of commission.

While the parade storage facilities are still backstage and are not being removed as part of the Coco project, they are inaccessible during construction. Meaning that this is a change that will likely impact at least the 2026 and 2027 Oogie Boogie Bash Halloween Parties, as it’s unlikely construction will progress to a point that allows access by August 2027.

Construction walls just went up back by BoardWalk Pizza & Pasta in Paradise Garden/Pixar Pier, and Coco construction has yet to go vertical. Our expectation is that the new attraction doesn’t debut until 2028, so the parade route could be unavailable until then. Or perhaps longer, depending upon the impact of future construction for Avatar in Hollywood Land.

Madame Leota’s Swinging Wake – A Haunted Mansion Street Party Debuting

“Madame Leota’s Swinging Wake – A Haunted Mansion Street Party” will bring familiar and iconic moments from the Haunted Mansion to the streets of California Adventure. The new street party will feature multiple show-stopping moments for Madame Leota to host her spirited séance and swinging wake filled with happy haunts, ghostly dancing, and ghoulish delight, inviting you to partake in a ghastly good time that beckons all 999 ghosts.

Disneyland has also revealed that Ichabod Crane hurries through Disney California Adventure evading the sinister specter of the Headless Horseman astride his dark steed at select times throughout the evening. This suggests to us that the Headless Horseman will have more performances than previously (two per night), but we’re not sure about that. Running the Headless Horseman repeatedly presents logistical problems, especially since the horse sometimes enjoys an, ahem, leisurely stroll as opposed to an efficient gallop.

You may also choose to purchase the Oogie Boogie Bash Dessert Party for an enhanced viewing of the street party, which will feature a new selection of treats themed to Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas. More details will become available and reservations will open on Disneyland.com later this summer.

Our assumption is that “Madame Leota’s Swinging Wake – A Haunted Mansion Street Party” will be a downgrade from Frightfully Fun Parade. Without a proper parade route, there’s only so much that can be staged from other backstage areas, meaning that this will necessarily be smaller scale than Frightfully Fun Parade.

Disney is choosing to call it a street party as opposed to a cavalcade, presumably because this will be more interactive in nature, inviting guests to participate. Perhaps the execution will be fantastic, and this will go over incredibly well with guests. Maybe some will prefer it to Frightfully Fun Parade. We sincerely doubt that, and view this as a downgrade versus Frightfully Fun Parade, at least in terms of scale. It is fun (and smart) that they’re tying it to Haunted Mansion, though.

On a positive note, Frightfully Fun Parade not returning enables Disney to extend the run of Paint the Night, which was previously scheduled to conclude along with the Disneyland 70th Anniversary celebration on August 9, 2026. Paint the Night and Frightfully Fun feature(d) overlapping casts, and with the latter not returning, there’s no need to conclude Paint the Night earlier to reassign performers. Consequently, Paint the Night will continue through August 20, 2026. Good news for D23 Expo attendees!

Other than the new “Madame Leota’s Swinging Wake – A Haunted Mansion Street Party” replacing the Frightfully Fun Parade, Disney has confirmed a few other details about the 2026 Oogie Boogie Bash. The first of these is that rare villains and Disney characters dressed up for Halloween will appear throughout DCA. There will also once again trick-or-treating along immersive treat trails, as well as a selection of themed bites available for purchase during the party.

Another confirmed offering during the 2026 OBB is Villains Grove, which is a transformation of Redwood Creek Challenge Trail. This is a wondrous and ethereal world of Disney villains, completely transformed with lighting, projections, sounds, and special effects, creating a haunting, dreamlike (or does that make it nightmare-like?) environment.

Disney did not announce that World of Color – Villainous would return, or that another new Halloween-themed World of Color would debut in 2026. This isn’t a huge surprise, but we had hoped this would be one of the entertainment additions to offset the loss of Frightfully Fun Parade. It’ll be interesting to see how event capacity is handled without the parade to soak up crowds.

Generally speaking, we’ve been hoping for the last couple of years that Disneyland would expand and improve Oogie Boogie Bash. That really hasn’t been the case, which is a surprise given the local fanbase and how integral repeat visitors are to Disneyland.

We covered this all at length in Why You Should Skip the Oogie Boogie Bash Disney Halloween Party, which makes the case against attending the event. Although that’s mostly aimed at locals and repeat visitors, some of the points apply to first-timers, too.

Unless something major changes for 2026, if I had to decide between a ticket to Oogie Boogie Bash – A Disney Halloween Party or one of the $104 days at Disneyland during the spook season, I would–without a doubt–choose the latter. You get longer hours, a ton of included offerings, lower prices, and the more iconic park.

To be clear, Oogie Boogie Bash is a lot of fun as a special event. We’ve enjoyed our experiences and will attend again in 2026! It’s just that the hype for this hard ticket Halloween party has gotten a bit out of control, fueled by the FOMO of tickets selling out so fast.

It also helps that the base experience during Halloween Time at Disneyland is phenomenal, which shouldn’t be overlooked. This is doubly true if you’re a Walt Disney World regular who has never done Halloween at Disneyland.

Conversely, it hurts that Oogie Boogie Bash falls short as compared to Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party in every regard except characters. Even before the pause of Frightfully Fun Parade, the party really needed one more piece of cornerstone entertainment; ideally, a stage show or another new Halloween edition of World of Color. Now, it needs two.

In the end, it’ll be interesting to see how guests respond to “Madame Leota’s Swinging Wake – A Haunted Mansion Street Party” replacing the Frightfully Fun Parade. Our guess is that the allure of “NEW!” will be what dominates the discourse, at least among casual guests when tickets go on sale and prior to the event actually starting.

Diehard fans like anyone reading this are a different beast, as we’re more likely to read between the lines and understand the trade-offs being made. Guest satisfaction of actual Oogie Boogie Bash attendees is a totally different story, and we wonder whether “it’s stale” is already a common complaint beyond the fandom. But that’ll likely impact sales of 2027 Oogie Boogie Bash tickets more than this year. We still fully expect every single 2026 date to sell out yet again.

  1. I’ll be curious to see what the street party is like, though I’d rather have a parade. I’m glad to hear they’ll still have the Headless Horseman. He’s the epitome of Halloween Scary!
