Disney World Ending Kids Eat Free in 2027

Walt Disney World has released 2027 vacation packages, resort reservations and tickets. This includes three tiers of the DDP, which can be booked for arrivals starting in January. While the headline-grabbing change is the return of the Deluxe Disney Dining Plan, an arguably more consequential move is the end of Kids Eat Free.

In each of the last few years, Walt Disney World has restored missing guest perks and added a couple new ones to entice on-site stays. This included introducing the free water park arrival day on-site perk last year (which it’s bringing back again in 2027), piloting a return of Airport Luggage Transfer last year, restoring free parking for resort guests prior to that, and undoing almost all of the damage from the phased reopening. As we’ve said countless times, more is still needed–but progress is being made.

The “one big thing” for this year was the new Kids Eat FREE All Year in 2026 at Walt Disney World! Throughout all of this year, guests staying at one of Walt Disney World’s more than 25 on-site Disney-owned resort hotels will get a FREE Disney Dining Plan for their kids (ages 3 to 9 at the time of travel) when purchasing a Disney Dining Plan as part of their package for the other members of their party (ages 10 and up at the time of travel).

The Free Disney Dining Plan included in this special offer depends on the Disney Dining Plan the adults in the party purchase. The Disney Dining Plan is included for kids ages 3-9 when purchasing a regular Disney Dining Plan for guests ages 10 and older in the party. The Quick-Service Disney Dining Plan is included for kids ages 3-9 when purchasing a Quick-Service Disney Dining Plan for Guests ages 10 and older in the party.

The Kids Free Dining Plan at Walt Disney World deal can be combined with other select special offers. This is huge. Already, we’ve seen all 2026 room-only discounts eligible to stack with the Kids Free Dining Plan offer, from bouncebacks to general public discounts. Even DVC point rental is eligible for the Kids Free Dining Plan!

The best use case for the Kids Free Dining Plan is actually in Summer 2026, when guests can stack it with the Deep Discount on Rooms Starting at $99 Per Night and 4-Park Walt Disney World Magic Ticket. If those particular deals don’t work for you, the same logic applies to all other room-only and ticket deals. You can combine any/all of them, although it might require calling to book some of them as opposed to doing it online.

We’ve yet to do the math to assess just how strongly these stackable special offers stack up to historical discounts, but my guess is that this can open the door on the cheapest Walt Disney World trip in over a decade with the perfect circumstances.

Meaning there’s a single mom of 9 year old triplets who is going to stay in the Cars Family Suites this summer, buy those 4-Park Magic Tickets, and absolutely clean up on the DDP. And you know what? She deserves it. Nine year old triplets are no joke.

It was already the case that the Disney Dining Plan was more attractive for families with multiple children ages 3-9. The Kids Eat Free in 2026 promo makes that even more true, and reduces the number of children necessary for the math to pencil out–it now typically makes sense even for an only child. (The DDP makes complete sense for us once our daughter turns 3, at least on paper. Adjusting where we eat to avoid character meals for a while probably makes more sense.)

Of course, there are exceptions to this. If you have a party of a half-dozen adults and only one kid ages 3-9, the Kids Eat Free promo won’t (alone) be outcome-determinative for you. Or if your 3 year old is an incredibly light eater who has zero interest in character meals. Paying out of pocket might be the sensible route. In other words, there are guests at the margins for whom the 2026 DDP won’t make sense, even with their kids eating free.

The bottom line is that the Kids Eat Free special offer is a huge win for Walt Disney World’s target demographic. I would also argue that it’s a big win for WDW itself, and the whole reason it was introduced in the first place was because ADR availability had increased as demand for table service dining declined.

Remember, Disney never offers deals out of generosity. The whole reason Kids Eat Free was introduced in the first place was due to declining interest in the Disney Dining Plan and table service restaurants, which I would argue happened because vacation costs had increased too much.

This was Walt Disney World’s answer to that; a way to “correct” its pricing problem without lowering sticker prices. It was a really savvy move, one we’ve praised effusively and highlighted extensively.

And guess what? Walt Disney World is not bringing back Kids Eat Free for 2027.

Here’s the official announcement, if you want to call it that, buried in the “Savings & Value” section of the Disney Dining Plan page on DisneyWorld.com:

Savings for Families in 2026

If you’re traveling in 2026, get a free dining plan for kids (ages 3 to 9) when you purchase a package that includes a room with the Disney Resorts Collection and a dining plan for each Guest ages 10+.

The number of packages available for this offer is limited. Everyone in the same room must be on the same package. Advance reservations are required. Dining plan must be purchased for all Guests in the travel party ages 10 and up, for the entire length of stay. Children must be ages 3 to 9 at time of travel and must order from the children’s menu, where available. Some table-service restaurants may have limited or no availability at time of package purchase. Dining plans exclude gratuities.

Savings for Families in 2027

If you’re traveling in 2027, save up to 20% on dining for kids (ages 3 to 9) when you purchase a package that includes a dining plan for your family.

Savings compared to the nondiscounted price of menu items available to kids ages 3 to 9 at participating locations when purchased without a dining plan. Actual savings vary based on menu items ordered.

Although the 2027 portion is confusing, it doesn’t mean that Walt Disney World is giving 20% off DDPs next year. That’s been their phrasing in the past to convey how much you can save by buying the Disney Dining Plan vs. paying out of pocket.

That page alone strongly suggests that Kids Eat Free isn’t returning in 2027. This was further reinforced when we went to price out tiers of the Disney Dining Plan for us and our daughter (who will be 3 in 2027), and it revealed the following prices:

  • Quick-Service Disney Dining Plan: $25.82 per child
  • Table-Service Disney Dining Plan: $31.94 per child
  • Deluxe Disney Dining Plan: $46.85 per child

At the risk of stating the obvious, kids are not eating free if they’re being charged $26 to $47 for the DDP. Since this was part of the annual product launch last year and is not treated as a discount, but rather, a perk of staying on-site and purchasing the Disney Dining Plan for adults, we’d say that all of this is pretty conclusive of Kids Eat Free not returning in 2027.

Our Commentary

As you might recall, Kids Eat Free was first announced shortly after reporting that Walt Disney World is Worried About Its High Prices made waves in the mainstream media. A lot was announced shortly thereafter that felt like an indirect response to that; there were several positive signs Walt Disney World was doing more to cater to middle class families with small children, its bread and butter demographic for decades. The timing could’ve been coincidental, but it didn’t feel like it.

In the year or so since, it also seems like Walt Disney World has pulled back on those initiatives. Cool Kids’ Summer and many of last year’s promos are returning, which is a definite positive. However, the marquee 50% off kids ticket deal isn’t returning this summer, and now the Free Dining for Kids perk is being discontinued after one year.

While I didn’t expect Kids Eat Free to be offered forever, I will admit that I’m surprised it’s not being extended for 2027. I figured this was the type of promo being leveraged to help bridge the gap until the next development cycle adds marketable new additions, which won’t come online until Tropical Americas until late 2027 at the absolute earliest. Best case scenario is that 2028 needs fewer special offers, and that’s even before discussing the current economic climate.

As discussed elsewhere, we’ve seen less guest interest in the Disney Dining Plan, whether it’s the paid version or the all-in package price of Free Dining. What once offered “peace of mind” when booking is now an overwhelming budgetary burden that’s easier to stomach later on a pay as you go basis. The end result is fewer guests doing table service meals, and more doing counter service.

Beyond higher prices across the board, a big reason for this is Lightning Lanes. What was once free via FastPass is now paid, and is a “non-negotiable” add-on for many Walt Disney World guests. Most people don’t have bottomless vacation budgets, and expenses incurred on a new product offering result in cutting something else. The easiest discretionary spending to drop is pricier dining.

It’s also our understanding that the average ticket duration has decreased (hence the 4-Park, 4-Day Magic Ticket deal), as has the propensity to purchase the Park Hopper add-on and other bells and whistles. We’ve heard all of this from travel agents and third party ticket sellers. Less time in the parks also means less time for table service restaurants, as there’s a greater sense of urgency to ride rides.

All of this puts pressure on Disney to find ways to fill tables, which was precisely why Kids Eat Free was a smart solution in the first place! It’s not as if the above problems will simply vanish overnight once 2027 rolls around. Given that, the silver lining in all of this is that the lack of Kids Eat Free opens the door for different discounts at Walt Disney World in 2027.

We’ve framed the above in a negative light, which is possibly because we’re about to ‘age into’ being the target demographic for Kids Eat Free, and will now only have a few months to take advantage of it. More objectively, it’s our understanding that young families are facing affordability challenges with Walt Disney World (to a greater degree than Childless Disney Adults), and it’s especially tough to justify table service dining or character meals with kids who eat about $4 worth of food.

However, there’s also another side to this, which is that Kids Eat Free did nothing for a wide swath of guests. Anyone who didn’t want to purchase the Disney Dining Plan or didn’t have kids in that sweet spot age range. That’s a lot of people, including us until October.

Even as we’ve been touting how great Kids Eat Free is, we’ve heard from many readers who have been bitter about the promo, noting that it does nothing for them. Perhaps this is negativity bias or a vocal minority, but the complaints probably outweigh positive sentiment that we’ve heard.

It’s entirely possible that this has been the feedback that Walt Disney World has received about Kids Eat Free.

It could also be the case that they’ve analyzed bookings, and found that this promo isn’t really moving the needle on DDP sales, table service fill rates, etc. Maybe Disney has discovered that the overwhelming majority of guests doing this are taking advantage of the Quick-Service Disney Dining Plan as opposed to the Table-Service DDP.

The bottom line is that we don’t know what we don’t know, and there could be perfectly logical and valid reasons for Walt Disney World discontinuing Kids Eat Free. In fact, we should presume that there are. Just as Walt Disney World doesn’t offer discounts out of generosity, they don’t end them arbitrarily.

When viewed through that prism, and with the knowledge that Walt Disney World is still struggling to fill tables and get gets to spend more on dining, it stands to reason that there will be some alternative to fill the gap in 2027.

Of course, we don’t know what that is at this moment in time. Walt Disney World doesn’t release 2027 discounts when announcing the annual product launch, so today’s (perceived) bad news will likely be tomorrow’s (fingers crossed) exciting special offer.

Maybe it’ll be a more aggressive version of Free Dining that brings back the ‘old school’ version of the deal where Moderate Resorts received the Table-Service Disney Dining Plan. Perhaps they’ll take that one step further and offer the Deluxe Disney Dining Plan to Deluxe Resorts.

Back when Kids Eat Free was first announced last April, we speculated about this very possibility due to traditional Free Dining being cannibalized by this promo. At the time, we speculated that they’d introduce a new and novel discount. Instead of pulling from the 2019 Playbook, they’d turn to the “Great Recession Playbook” by bringing back something like the ‘Book 4 Nights, Get 3 Free’ deal. We missed the mark–slightly–as it ended up being ‘Buy 4, Get 2 Free.’ Still, I’d say that was pretty close, and a good guess given that deal had been gone for 17 years.

It’s hard to say what’ll happen at this point with 2027 special offers and perks, but we will go out on a limb and predict that Kids Eat Free will not be replaced by nothing at all. Although it might seem like this is Disney being cheap or cost-cutting, there’s a reductionist reaction.

At the same time, if you’re in the target demographic for the Kids Eat Free perk (e.g. you’re a single parent to 9 year old triplets eyeing the Cars Family Suites this summer), you might want to strongly consider traveling in 2026 as opposed to waiting until 2027. There might end up being a “better” deal on balance for a wider audience, but it’s unlikely there will be one that can be stacked (and frankly, exploited) to the degree of Kids Eat Free.

Regardless, the underlying realities remains: Walt Disney World needs to increase the fill rate at table service restaurants and they need to incentivize guests to visit at a time when there’s nothing new and (maybe) the economic environment is worsening. And it will now be more difficult to do that in the absence of Kids Eat Free, so they’ll need a replacement perk or promo to fill the void.
