2021 Flavors of Florida at Disney Springs Menus & Tips

Flavors of Florida is a summer food event at Disney Springs offering entrees, alcohol, and desserts inspired by the Sunshine State in Walt Disney World’s popular dining, shopping, and entertainment district. This post offers 2021 menus, reviews things we’ve eaten at Flavors of Florida, and our overall experience with the event. (Updated July 5, 2021.)

The good news is that after a hiatus, Flavors of Florida is back for 2021! The Disney Springs summertime event runs from July 6 through August 12, 2021 and more than 30 restaurants and shops will celebrate the best of Floridian foods. Unlike Epcot’s Food & Wine Festival, this event is not highly publicized; once you arrive at Disney Springs, you’ll find advertisements and paper guides at stands, in the restaurants, and at the Disney Springs Welcome Center.

When I first heard about Flavors of Florida, I was fairly excited. Not only did several items look delicious, but it seemed like a really fun concept, and without having to pay Walt Disney World theme park admission. Have a quasi-food festival outside of Epcot, perhaps giving tourists and locals a reason to visit and revisit Disney Springs over the summer. In actuality, the inaugural event didn’t live up to my hype…

Turning to reviews, there’s good and bad news. The “bad” news is that the menus are all-new for the 2021 Flavors of Florida at Disney Springs, so all of our individual item reviews have been removed as irrelevant.

The good news is that there’s all new menus for 2021! Our reviews were not exactly positive, save for a couple of items, so a totally fresh start with Flavors of Florida is probably for the best. (This also renders most of our ‘final thoughts’ below about the inaugural Flavors of Florida irrelevant.) We’re excited to give several of these new items a try!

Okay, so for some final thoughts on Flavors of Florida. Basically, this is a great idea with really poor execution and communication. I had visions of this being a mini-food festival, and it’s most certainly not that. Despite the ‘event guide’ offering checkboxes, there is no way anyone is going to eat all of this–or even half of it.

There are way too many items that are at table service restaurants, and way too few at counter service restaurants and snack stands. If you’re wondering why we only reviewed a handful of items, it’s because we would’ve had to make reservations and do full meals to try most of these items. The event is not at all conducive to grazing.

The prices and portion sizes also leave a lot to be desired. The cheapest item we had was the $7 pizza (zero regrets on that one!) and prices only went up from there. Most of the food items are either appetizers or entrees, with few (if any) snack-sized and priced portions.

Having some table service restaurants “join in the fun” with Flavors of Florida-inspired dishes makes sense, but having that be the bulk of the event does not. Why not invite/encourage/force the many snack stands at Disney Springs to offer smaller portions in the $4-6 range? Why not build some temporary food booths a la Epcot’s festivals in walkways with vacant storefronts (there’s a bunch of dead space over by Under Armour)?

There’s a ton of potential in Flavors of Florida. It could really be a fun summertime offering at Walt Disney World. It could be leveraged to encourage repeat daytime or weekday visits during the brutal summer months. It could even be a summertime spiritual successor to Epcot’s festivals.

Currently, it’s none of those things. Instead, it’s not really anything overarching; it’s just a special menu item here and there that you may or may not order at restaurants you’d already be visiting. Nevertheless, I hope Disney Springs leadership learns from what works and doesn’t work with Flavors of Florida, and it returns next year as a more robust offering–it could be awesome!
