The First Night of Our “Disneymoon”
It’s our anniversary today, and for the occasion we thought it’d be worth sharing a favorite moment from our Walt Disney World honeymoon. It’s hard to believe that it’s been two years already, as this night is still vivid in our memories. Suffice to say, it was a great night in Magic Kingdom!
I can’t say I blame Sarah for falling asleep on our bus ride back to BoardWalk Inn after the first day of our Walt Disney World honeymoon. On the night of our wedding, we only got 2 hours of sleep as we had to get up at 4 a.m. to head to the airport to begin the honeymoon.
Granted, we did sleep a bit on the plane, and did take a half hour nap when we arrived at BoardWalk. However, immediately thereafter we began our normal bustle, heading to the final Star Wars Weekend at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and then dinner at Kona Cafe before thereafter scurrying to the Magic Kingdom for Summer Nightastic and Evening Extra Magic Hours.
Summer Nightastic was excellent. It was nice seeing the Pirate & Princess Party fireworks again, but without paying extra for that special event. It was also cool to see Main Street Electrical Parade (although we’re good on that and now ready for SpectroMagic to return). More on all of the cool Summer Nightastic offerings later, though!
Of course, after Evening Extra Magic Hours, we took pictures throughout Magic Kingdom. Then, the strangest thing happened–something that has never happened to us. It was apparent that we were the last ones at the Magic Kingdom (by both observation and Security telling us so), but they did not “encourage” us to leave. Quite the contrary, in fact!
Security told us to take as many pictures as we wanted, and of course, we couldn’t pass up this opportunity. Heck, we even got pictures outside of the Train Station (rarely possible for us at night)! It was almost as if the Disney gods were taunting us: “we know you’re tired and probably wouldn’t mind being told to leave and go to bed, but if you’re willing to bear with the tiredness, you may stay and take pictures.”
When we got on the bus shortly after 4 a.m., Sarah fell asleep. I quietly set up the tripod and grabbed a few shots of her sleeping. I eventually woke her up doing this. At first I don’t think she was too thrilled that I woke her up, but once she saw the results she was pleased. All in all, an amazing night that we won’t soon forget, and one that’ll go down among our best-ever days at Walt Disney World!

Happy Anniversary! Our first trip to Disney as husband and wife had to wait until the middle of year 14, but it was well worth it! Here’s to you both and may the Disney god’s continue to bless you for years to come!
Tom & Sarah,
Congrats on your anniversary! My bride (Andrea) and I were married 13 years ago this year. For our honeymoon we spent 5 days at Disneyland. California Adventure was not completed then (1999).
Now… 13 years and 4 kids later, we are making our way back to Disney. For the three youngest kids, it will be their first time. For all of us, we are looking forward to seeing California Adventure and the newest addition – Cars Land.
We will be there this December… so your photographs of Disneyland at Christmas time are great eye candy.
Long live romance at Disneyland!
