Star View Station Closing for Multi-Month Refurbishment

Our family probably spends more time in Star View Station than anywhere else in the parks. It’s a must-visit every time we’re in Tomorrowland at Disneyland (which is about once a week), and our daughter has taken many naps in her stroller here while we do rider switch for Space Mountain. Unfortunately, this space will close soon for a refurbishment that’s expected to last several months.

For those who are unfamiliar with it, Star View Station is the new-ish Disney Vacation Club member lounge that’s located in Star Wars Launch Bay building, or Innoventions if you’re a bit older…or America Sings if you’re even older…or Carousel of Progress if you’re the oldest. Inspired by Walt Disney’s vision for the future, Star View Station Lounge features a retro-inspired mid-century modern design.

Star View Station is also decorated with a variety of murals designed by Disney Legends such as Mary Blair, John Hench and Herbert Ryman. Members can also check out historic Disney gems, including the K7 Space Suit worn by the Tomorrowland astronauts from the early years of Disneyland park and the Space Station S-1 Model from the Disneyland television series.

Star View Station Lounge welcomes members to recharge from their park adventures and enjoy out of this world amenities including, a dedicated DVC Member Services team, comfortable seating, complimentary Wi-Fi, device-charging stations, and complimentary drinks via Coke FreeStyle machines and fancy coffee machines (one of which is perpetually broken, it seems).

According to an email we just received from DVC, Star View Station will soon close for a refurbishment. Here’s the meat of the message:

We would like to let you know of an upcoming temporary closure of Disney Vacation Club Star View Station – A Member Lounge at Disneyland Park. Starting July 27, 2026, Star View Station will be temporarily closed for routine maintenance work and is scheduled to reopen in fall 2026.

If you plan on visiting Disneyland Park during the closure period, please use our temporary lounge space inside Starcade, located near the exit of Space Mountain in Tomorrowland, where you’ll find a sectioned space made available for eligible Members.

Here you may enjoy comfortable seating, complimentary beverages and snacks. The temporary lounge will be open daily from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (subject to change), and the standard Member Lounge eligibility and rules apply to the use of this location.

On the one hand, the timing of this isn’t great during the hottest months of the year and 2026 D23 Expo, which draws a ton of DVC Members to Disneyland. On the other hand, it’ll be interesting to see what they set up in the old Starcade.

I haven’t the slightest idea what this closure is for, but my best realistic guess is some urgent invisible maintenance that couldn’t be pushed off until after D23. That would explain both the short notice and the timing. (For my best unrealistic guess, see the final few paragraphs.)

From a practical perspective, Star View Station Lounge is our favorite and most-used member perk. We are at Disneyland more than any park, so we get a lot of mileage out of it. Not only that, but the lounge is massive. We have never encountered a wait list for Star View Station, or seen it above 80% of capacity.

On top of that, there’s a ton of outdoor seating that no one seems to know about (90% of the time, we’re the only ones out there) with great views of Tomorrowland. Given the milder weather in Southern California, this outdoor seating area is a hidden gem for the vast majority of the year.

A big part of why there’s so much unused space in Star View Station is because Disneyland Resort is significantly smaller than Walt Disney World and doesn’t have the same tourist market.

Disneyland has roughly one-third of the number of DVC rooms as Saratoga Springs Resort, alone. That’s not to mention the other resorts at Walt Disney World, many of which also surpass the total DVC inventory at DLR on their own. And yet, it has this massive lounge!

Prior to Star View Station being announced, there were rumors that the Star Wars Launch Bay/Innoventions/America Sings/Carousel of Progress building was going to be reimagined. That was back around the time of the 2022 D23 Expo, and there hasn’t been a whole lot of chatter since.

The rumor mill hasn’t dried up because Tomorrowland at Disneyland is suddenly a fan-favorite. There just hasn’t been any credible movement on this project for several years. However, there’s a reason “New Tomorrowland” makes our wish list for every D23 Expo (and will again in 2026).

There’s also a reason why we referred to this as an active project as opposed to a rumor or proposal. It’s easy to forget, but the company itself already announced “A Great, Big, Beautiful Tomorrowland Entrance Coming Soon to Disneyland.” That was back in November 2019.

The walls are still up and the concept art on them had become so faded that they replaced it. That construction wall will soon be of legal drinking age in some territories. When Buzz Lightyear’s Astro Blasters closed for a lengthy refurbishment project earlier this year, it received a new exterior color scheme. That appears to still be a work-in-progress.

Given all of that, and the simple fact that Star View Station is still new and not in any obvious need of a refresh, the highly obvious and extremely logical conclusion is that facade repainting and this Star View Station closure are both secretly related to some blockbuster 2026 D23 Expo announcement.

That is probably not the case; this is likely just routine maintenance. But it doesn’t hurt to dream about a day when the PeopleMover returns to Disneyland and this much-maligned land, which has been stuck in the past since long before we started visiting Disneyland in 2010, lives up to its promise. Instead of tinkering with Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean, it’s long past time for Disney to fix Tomorrowland.

  1. LOVE LOVE LOVE the theme of that lounge. Surely construction/refurb is something else in that building b/c that area isn’t very old. I would absolutely love for them to bring back the Peoplemover, and daydream (get a little sad) about it every trip. And for them to refurb the monorail.
