During our Disneyland Christmas 2011 trip, I took on two ambitious projects: a Disneyland Christmas eBook and a Disneyland Christmas time lapse video!. The two projects took a lot of work, but I’m proud to finally be able to share both with you!
First, my time lapse video of Disneyland at Christmas-time–enjoy!
This is my first real try at shooting time lapse “in the field” and it was a lot of fun, and a great learning experience. I wasn’t able to capture everything I wanted to capture due to time constraints (the thousands of still images here were all shot over the course of a 4-day weekend), but I am pretty proud of the results. I shot all of the photos with my Nikon D3100 and Nikon D7000 DSLR cameras, edited it in Windows Movie Maker, and added music from “Believe… In Holiday Magic!” fireworks.
Feel free to share the video on your website, Facebook, Twitter, or anywhere else! (Don’t just feel free–please do share it!) Thanks for all of your support this year, and Merry Christmas!
The second project is the first-ever eBook devoted to photos and descriptions of all the offerings of Disneyland Resort at Christmas…
The book was a lot of work, but I’m pretty pleased with the results. As I mentioned the text accompanying a survey posted on the site a couple of weeks ago, I always am looking for new ways to challenge myself. This certainly was a challenge! I knew I wanted to write it for the Kindle, as most e-readers either are Kindles or have a Kindle app that allows reading of Kindle books. Plus, that was the only way to get the eBook on Amazon.com.
Well, creating the book within Amazon’s parameters was difficult, to say the least. Overall, I am pleased with the finished product, and I think the eBook offers a great overview of Disneyland Resort at Christmas, along with tons of beautiful photos.
The eBook contains over 170 photos of Disneyland at Christmas, overviews of the decorations and holiday attractions (such as “it’s a small world” holiday, Haunted Mansion Holiday, World of Color: Prep & Landing, Santa’s Reindeer Round-Up, any many more!), reviews and photos of our favorite Christmas desserts at Disneyland, and a plethora of facts about Disneyland at Christmas!
I created this book for my own personal satisfaction, for the enjoyment of readers, but also because I wanted to give back. As you will learn in the book, Walt Disney’s studio designed the logo for Toys for Tots, which is still used today, and Walt went on to assist the organization in its initial years. Given this, I couldn’t think of a more fitting charity to help benefit with sales of the book than Toys for Tots during this time of year. Between now and December 23rd, 2011, half of my proceeds for the book will go to benefit Toys for Tots.
Hope you enjoy the Disneyland eBook and time lapse video!
A computer or tablet would probably be the way to go. Color pictures don’t generally translate that well to a 6.5″ black and white eInk device.
Yeah, in my tests, it definitely looked a lot better on Kindle for iPad, Kindle for PC, Kindle for iPod/iPhone, than it did on black and white Kindles. I would imagine it also looks good on the Fire.
Outstanding video the visuals and music meshed well, awesome job! Any more in the works?
What about a day at EPCOT, AK may also be interesting with time lapsed animals and the music possibilities are endless.
Sorry didn’t scroll down enough on my previous entry.

If I don’t have a Kindle or an iPad can I still view the book on my regular computer?
You’ll need a Kindle reader (here’s the computer one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html/ref=kcp_pc_mkt_lnd?docId=1000426311) but yes, you can!
Awesome Thanks!
BTW, That video is awesome! The pace of the frames goes so will with the music. Also loved your wave at the end. Really, really well done!
Love, love, love the video! What’s the background music? It’s so festive…
Great job Tom on the video. Lots of work and it came out awesome!
Just purchased and read the book. I am totally blown away. I’ve been to Disneyland hundreds of times, taken tens of thousands of pictures and yet your photos are so wonderful and unique it feels like I’m seeing it for the very first time. Bravo! Bravo!
Congrats on the ebook and great job on the time-lapse video, Tom. I know that was a labor of love. About how many frames did it take to put this together? Also, did you shoot it all in one day, or over multiple days?
Very good to see that half the profits will go to Toys For Tots!
Wow! I am in awe! Do you need an apprentice???? Again, I am in awe!
Awesome video Tom good job I enjoyed it
The Amazon Kindle is a series of e-book readers produced by Amazon.com. Amazon Kindle devices enable users to shop for, download, browse, and read e-books, newspapers, magazines, blogs, and other digital media via wireless networking. The hardware platform, developed by Amazon.com subsidiary Lab126, began as a single device and now comprises a range of devices – most using an E Ink electronic paper display capable of rendering 16 tones to simulate reading on paper while minimizing power consumption.:,:;
