Spaceship Earth Post-Storm Photo
I’ve already shared several of my photos from this rainy night at Epcot, including this photo of Spaceship Earth that several others called my best photo of Spaceship Earth ever. While I like that shot a lot, I wouldn’t call it my best ever, or even best Spaceship Earth photo of that particular evening. The latter title, I think, goes to this photo.
I actually just “discovered” this photo last night. Originally, when I too this photo I was really excited. The lighting on Spaceship Earth was great, the sky looked good (a purplish shade of deep blue, almost) and the reflection was pretty good. It took me a couple of tries to get a clean shot without any people in it, but I managed that. When I got it home, I noticed a problem that ruined the photo: rain drops on very prominent subjects in the lens. For whatever reason, I didn’t see the first shot in the set of my tries, which was clean of rain drops. I happened upon that by accident last night, and was really excited. Almost too excited.
Suffice to say, I’m really pleased with this shot. I’m currently using it as my desktop background (it was about time to finally change out that Disneyland Christmas background, anyway!) as it instantly takes me back to that night, and reminds me of that incredibly fun trip. I thought today would be a good day to post this photo as a nice “finale” to our trip report from this Walt Disney World vacation. If you haven’t viewed the trip report yet, you should check it out. Even if you don’t read it (I wouldn’t–it’s all unintelligible rubbish), at least look at some of the photos. Most of them aren’t as good as this one, but there are a lot of really cool ones (I think).

Keep on writing, great job!
Hot damn this is good! I think compositionally this shot is way better than the other SSE reflection shot, that wavy roof line on the right and darker trees on the left just funnel your eye straight to SSE.
I agree. I spent way more time getting the other, and I think the reflection is superior in that, but I just love this one.
This picture is phenomenal. I always try to get things in the reflections of water and I can never do it just right. Of course you have a much more advanced camera and fool proof system (setting the camera on it’s strap ;). Anyway, this is probably one of the most beautiful spaceship earth pics you’ve done!
Most cameras are actually capable of taking really good night photos if used correctly. It’s mostly a matter of technique.
What a great shot – so glad you “discovered” it!!
Thanks, me too!
