Disney Announces Nostalgic, Fan-Favorite Entertainment Returning in 2027
Disney has announced the return of fan-favorite fireworks and a nighttime spectacular, along with a beloved daytime parade at Disneyland and California Adventure. This post covers the full details, plus our commentary about potential timing.
On the Horizons stage during the Parks Panel at the 2026 D23 Expo, host Neil Patrick Harris talked about this very feeling and his longtime love for Disneyland entertainment, including the nighttime spectaculars and parades that have dared to dream for years and years.
Neil also talked about his deep love for these moments in the park, adding, “I have so many great memories under the stars with my kids. I wish I could go back in time to relive them all over again.”
NPH and every other longtime Disney fan is getting their wish, as fan-favorite entertainment is coming back to Disneyland Resort in 2027! Get ready for the return of two fan-favorite nighttime spectaculars and a beloved daytime parade.
“Magic Happens” Parade Returns to Disneyland
Just in time for Summer 2027, the “Magic Happens” parade will return to Disneyland to once again fill the streets with inspirational moments of magic from favorite Disney stories.
What’s interesting here is the long gap between “A Christmas Fantasy” ending and “Magic Happens” starting. It’s typically the case that the parade takes longer to turn over, but that usually means February, not summer.
This makes me wonder whether we might still get a surprise Main Street Electrical Parade announcement for the winter months. If Disneyland is completely parade-free until May or June…that won’t be great news.
World of Color Comes Home to California Adventure
Neil also revealed on stage that fans will soon discover an updated take on the original World of Color nighttime spectacular at Disney California Adventure, starting in February 2027.
It’ll be interesting to learn what, exactly, an “updated take” on the original World of Color means. I would assume that it means swapping out a couple of scenes, adding a new movie or two that’s been a smash success since the original World of Color debuted over 15 years ago.
That could be Moana, Coco, Zootopia, Inside Out, Frozen, and more. Fingers crossed it doesn’t mean anything live action!
“Remember… Dreams Come True” Returns
Longtime Disneyland fans and fireworks enthusiasts alike: you’re in for quite a treat!
A refreshed version of the “Remember… Dreams Come True” nighttime spectacular will soon make a triumphant return to Disneyland in February 2027. In addition to the projections on Sleeping Beauty Castle, the show will feature new projections at Rivers of America, the facade of “it’s a small world,” and all the way down Main Street, USA.
Music and projections will delight guests with nightly scheduled performances, and on select evenings, the experience will be enhanced with fireworks above the skies of Disneyland. RDCT previously featured rudimentary projections in the final year or two of its run, so we assume it’s getting fully-fledged projections so that there’s still a worthwhile show component on non-pyro nights. We absolutely cannot wait.
Speaking of which, here’s our overview of each entertainment offering, and what we love about them…
Why World of Color is World Class
Featuring projections, fire, and other amazing effects, the dancing fountains of Paradise Bay present a jaw-droppingly beautiful montage presentation of Disney animated classics in World of Color. There’s no story to speak of, but you will be so blown away and entranced by the colorful fountains, projections, and other visuals that you’re unlikely to notice.
The original World of Color is like the original Soarin’ Over California. Try as Disney might to top it, that just seemingly isn’t possible. Happiness and One have both been valiant efforts in the last few years, but they’re not as good as the OG. There’s just something special in the simplicity of the original. (Although I’d like to see the actual original pre-opening cut.)
My favorite way to watch World of Color is from the very front row, dead center in the wet zone. This spot is surprisingly easy to obtain during the second showing, especially on chilly evenings in Southern California (more often than you might expect for those who haven’t visited).
From the front, World of Color is a sensory overload in the best possible way, a veritable feast of fountains, lights, colors, and music. From that perspective, the lack of story and narrative cohesiveness don’t much matter. Vibe-wise, World of Color is the perfect way to end a day at Disney California Adventure.
Magic Happens is Magical
Poor Magic Happens. First announced at the 2019 D23 Expo by Bob “Umbrella Man” Chapek, Magic Happens first debuted on February 28, 2020. Anyone with even cursory knowledge of world history knows what happened next, and why it ran for less than two weeks.
Magic Happens then returns in 2023 for the Disney100 celebration, but not until being delayed a couple of days due to inclimate weather. It then ended its run rather unceremoniously, being swept up amidst entertainment cutbacks in Fall 2024. Then the 70th Anniversary happened, and Magic Happens was not part of it.
Meaning that, although Magic Happens is approaching its 7th Anniversary, it has been performed for less than 2 years total (assuming my math is correct). Normally, Disneyland would debut a new daytime parade by this point, but we’re actually glad that isn’t happening here. That seems more like a 75th Anniversary thing.
Magic Happens is just still very new for many fans, and that includes us. We were living in Florida when it first debuted, and missed seeing it by a matter of days before the parks closed. We did manage to finally catch it several times in 2023-2024, and we love it. While the scale is smaller than Festival of Fantasy, it’s a fun and energetic production that suits Disneyland.
Led by Mickey Mouse and his pals, the daytime spectacular celebrates moments of magic from Walt Disney Animation Studios and Pixar Animation Studios films with grand floats, artistic costumes and an energetic musical score. Magic Happens has a great amount of variety, with modern fan favorites that you’d absolutely expect to see, coupled with deep cuts. The music is also very catchy.

“Good evening, this is Julie Andrews. Once upon a time, there was a magic kingdom made of hopes and childhood fantasies. A timeless place, where every land was filled with wonder. A place where everyone who entered its gates would be given the gift of the young at heart: the power to wish upon a star and unlock its magic. Are you ready to wish upon a star? Then it’s time to open your heart and remember… dreams come true.”
I still get goosebumps when hearing the above opening for Remember… Dreams Come True. Same goes for the next segment, lifted from Wishes, and the one after that with Walt Disney’s 1955 Disneyland dedication speech. Oh, and the one after that, boarding the Disneyland Railroad for a grand circle tour of the original magic kingdom. And the one after that, and so on and so forth.
I also got goosebumps when I heard this announcement, as I feared that Remember… Dreams Come True might be gone for good since it hadn’t returned for a proper run in a full decade. While we never saw RDCT during its original run for Disneyland’s 50th Anniversary, we did enjoy it as tourists for a number of years starting in 2010, and then extensively in 2014 when we moved to California and again in 2017-2018 after the 60th Anniversary ended.
Remember… Dreams Come True combines two things that I love: fireworks and Disney theme park history. (RDCT also features a lot of great effects, such as the Haunted Mansion Stretching Room and Star Tours lasers.) The show is a tribute to the visionary man and the monumental place he built, which changed the course of history…and all of our lives. Those things are exponentially more meaningful to me than any animated movies.
What makes Disney fireworks spectaculars special is how they utilize fireworks in emotive shows. For this theme park nut, nothing accomplishes this better than Remember… Dreams Come True or Celebrate Tokyo Disneyland. As the park-centric fandom grows with each passing year thanks to Disney Vacation Club, Annual Passholders, and fanbases locally and spread out across the globe, I hope we start to see more shows like this in the future.
Out of all the entertainment announcements here, Remember… Dreams Come True is the one that excites me the most. It’s just such a fantastic, nostalgia-drenched show. The fandom has expanded so much since RDCT was last performed, and I truly hope this love letter to Walt Disney’s original magic kingdom is so well received that it gives creatives the greenlight to lean more into fan-focused entertainment and attractions, as it would be nice to see more like this for anniversaries on both coasts, and less that’s crowd-pleasing.
