Disneyland 60th Anniversary Live Coverage!

Today is the 60th Anniversary of Disneyland, and I’m there to cover the festivities! If you’ve been following this blog, you know I am super hyped about the Disneyland Diamond Celebration, and are really excited to be there to celebrate the momentous anniversary in person. In this post we will offer some info about the day’s events, and be updating all day long with live photos.

While today, July 17, 2015 is the official date of the 60th Anniversary of Disneyland (but not Disney California Adventure…that came a few years later), those of you who aren’t Disneyland locals or have been living under a rock should know that the Diamond Celebration will continue at least through the end of 2015, and probably until the end of 2016 (making it roughly an 18-month celebration, which is about par for the course on these things).

This post won’t be offering basic overview information about Diamond Celebration as a whole. Everything you need to know about the new offerings can be found in our Ultimate Guide to the Disneyland Diamond Celebration, with additional background and reviews in my Disneyland 60th Anniversary Info post and in my Disneyland 60th Anniversary Entertainment Reviews post.

As for today’s festivities, let’s take a look at what’s on the agenda…

Highlights will include a Celebratory Moment hosted by Disneyland Resort president Michael Colglazier at 10 a.m. that will be broadcast on video screens throughout the park, in Disney California Adventure, and in Downtown Disney at ESPN Zone. Additionally, there will be a pre-parade before Mickey’s Soundsational Parade, with a cavalcade honoring original 1955 Cast Members.

Other special offerings will include six 1955-themed photo spots throughout both parks; 1950’s dance parties at Tomorrowland Terrace from 7 until 11:30 p.m., and in Carthay Circle from 6 until 10:30 p.m.; the first day of performance from the new-look Disneyland Band; plus, additional performances of World of Color and Paint the Night, among other things likely to be announced on the day of.

Oh, and you better believe there will be a special cupcake or two memorializing the occasion! 😉

Photos from today are posted here. Check back as we post live updates throughout the day:

  1. Enough toy story. Hollywood studios is where it belongs. The country bears is a big part of the mk. Pretty soon the castle and the other attractions will be moving out for some film attraction

  2. Just returned from Disneyland. We were there Friday the 17th and Sat.the 18th. HUGE crowds were everywhere. We did manage to have a celebration cupcake but missed the Electrical parade and fireworks due to rain cancellations on Sat. Very disappointed as that was one of the big reasons we were there.

Will the electrical parade go on during the Christmas holidays or replaced with Christmas parade. Trying to plan a repeat visit to see parade. Thanks.

  3. I like the parade of Disneyland legends! That car holding Bob Gurr is totally puzzling me however, how is she steering it??

    1. I know this is spam, but I read your post and it’s actually a fairly interesting story. Thanks for spamming me, I guess! 🙂

  4. We were there today as well and really enjoyed the day! We were very pleasantly surprised by the crowds, it wasn’t near as busy as we had thought it might be when planning this trip. The park opened earlier than advertised, so just after 7 we walked in headed to Fantasyland and proceeded to knock out 7 classic rides as virtual walk ons. Also hit Indy, Big thunder, buzz, splash, star tours, & pirates, along with catching the special ceremony and pre parade. Of course we are our fair share of free cupcakes as well. Overall a great day and Disney really handled the crowds today superbly!

    1. Yeah…I wish we would have done that. We also arrived just after 7, but instead of doing Fantasyland attractions, we went and waited in line for breakfast. Only after that did it dawn on me that I haven’t done the refurbished Peter Pan’s Flight yet. D’oh!

    1. One of the great things about Disneyland Forever is that it’s highly rewatchable. My favorite locations are Small World Mall and Main Street thus far. Still haven’t had many chances to take photos of the show…it’s been too busy!

    1. Ha, the Dapper Day thing isn’t my scene. I applaud those who do it, but I sweat WAY too much and inexplicably get filthy after a day in the parks. I’d look like one of the survivors on The Walking Dead if I dressed in Dapper attire.

Updates on the Band coming soon!

  5. We are heading there this afternoon. Hopefully all the goodies aren’t gone by the time we get there (stuck at work right now).
