Genie+ Sells Out at Multiple Parks as Peak Easter Crowds Arrive at Disney World

Genie+ has sold out again at Walt Disney World as record high pricing has returned for the peak week of Easter 2024. Already, multiple parks have sold out today (not to be confused with the Multiple Parks options…which has also sold out). This post covers all of the sold out dates & times along with what to expect for the rest of Spring Break season.

Let’s start by discussing crowds. This is one of the busier stretches of the entire year at Walt Disney World. Our recent Spring Break 2024 Crowd Calendar for Walt Disney World identified this would be the #1 worst week of the school recess season due to Easter this coming Sunday. Hardly a bold prediction, as the week leading up to Easter is usually the busiest of Spring Break season.

However, there are no guarantees of heavy crowds anymore. This peak week comes after a week that should have been busy, but wasn’t. As discussed in Florida’s “Peak” Spring Break Week Was Dead at Walt Disney World, Orange County’s Spring Break had a 9/10 crowd level last year but only a 1/10 this year, with an average wait time of 30 minutes. Objectively speaking, that made it the least-busy week of 2024 so far. Although Easter week is only just beginning, it would seem that it’ll see a tremendous bounceback in attendance and crowds.

I guess we shall see what happens. Even with Easter falling early and thus being a bit too soon for a lot of Northeast and Midwest districts that just had Mid-Winter Break a month ago, we’re still expecting this week to be both the busiest of the Spring Break season and one of the 10 Worst Weeks at Walt Disney World in 2024 & 2025.

No matter how you slice it, the remainder of March 2024 will be very busy. It’s not a matter of low crowds vs. heavy crowds, it’s all varying degrees of heavy. But this is a post about Genie+ prices and sell outs, not a crowd forecast.

Here are details about all of the days Genie+ has sold out thus far during Spring Break 2024:

• March 11, 2024 by 10 a.m. – Multi-Parks option
• March 12, 2024 by 10 a.m. – Multi-Parks & Magic Kingdom
• March 13, 2024 by 9:30 a.m. – Multi-Parks & Magic Kingdom
• March 14, 2024 by 9:30 a.m. – Multi-Parks
• March 15-24, 2024 – NA
• March 25, 2024 by 10:45 a.m. – Multi-Parks, Magic Kingdom and Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Here are the prices for Genie+ at Walt Disney World for the week of Easter 2024:

• Multiple Parks (valid with Park Hopper tickets): $39
• Magic Kingdom: $39
• Disney’s Hollywood Studios: $35
• EPCOT: $32
• Animal Kingdom: $29

For reference, here’s last week’s pricing–during the 1/10 crowd levels for Orange County’s Spring Break:

• Multiple Parks (valid with Park Hopper tickets): $29
• Magic Kingdom: $29
• Disney’s Hollywood Studios: $26
• EPCOT: $21
• Animal Kingdom: $18

Even though prices are about $10 more expensive this week, the paid FastPass service would be much more useful in Easter peak week crowds, too. By all accounts, Lightning Lanes were not necessary to have productive days in the parks last week. (Very envious of everyone who got to experience both low crowds and nice weather. It’s usually one or the other–rare to get both!)

These all-time high prices for Genie+ were first set around Christmas and New Year’s Eve, when prices peaked at $39.

For reference, Genie+ set a new record high price last year during Easter week at $35, breaking the prior record from the holiday season a few months prior. That $35 price wasn’t reached again until last Thanksgiving, and broken at Christmas. If history were to have repeated itself, Easter 2024 would set another new record, hitting $45. So I guess it’s a small victory that prices are “only” the same as they were back last holiday season?

However, it’s also worth pointing out that Easter probably won’t even hold a candle to the week between Christmas and NYE last year, which was next-level bonkers to an extent that had not been seen since at least 2019. (Assuming, for the sake of argument, that Genie+ is “worth” its current $39 price point…it probably would’ve been “worth” $50-60 during the heart of the holiday season.)

In other words, lower crowd levels–relative to the last time Genie+ cost $39–could explain why Walt Disney World opted against a $40+ price tag this week. It’s also possible that, after last week’s 1/10 crowd levels, there was internal apprehension that Easter week would be that busy and there’d be that much demand. Now that Monday has proven to be busy, it’s still possible high prices will arrive later this week. We wouldn’t bet on that, but it is within the realm of possibility.

Our expectation is that Genie+ will maintain this $39 price point until Easter, potentially dropping back down to $35 on April 1 (no foolin’), which is where it could stay until around April 12-14, 2024. At that point, we’d expect $29 prices, perhaps $25-27 by the following week and into shoulder season.

One dynamic we’ve noticed in the past is that it seems like Genie selling out begets more sold out dates. Guests develop Genie+ FOMO, seeing that it sold out the previous day and thus moving faster to purchase it the next. The paid FastPass service sells out earlier and earlier, over the course of the week–even as crowd levels usually peak on Monday or Tuesday.

Given that Genie+ is selling out at the start of Easter week, we’re probably in for many more days when one of several options sells out. We wouldn’t be the least bit surprised to see Genie+ sell out at least a half-dozen more times in the next 3 weeks. Last year around this time, Genie+ sold out twice during Orange County’s Spring Break and on three consecutive days during Easter.

Sell outs have become more common since switching to per-park pricing, though, so a full dozen dates with sold out options between now and mid-April 2024 is a reasonable possibility. The option most like to sell out is Multiple Parks, followed by Magic Kingdom and then DHS. With that said, we’ve also seen Animal Kingdom sell out out of the blue and even EPCOT has run out of availability in the past.

Regardless of what happens, it’s going to be a very busy few weeks with high wait times. So plan accordingly, purchase Genie+ early, be aggressive with booking pursuant to the 120 minute rule, have a strong refresh game for ride reservation refills. Oh, and don’t forget to take advantage of Early Entry and rope drop, as well as zig when they zag savvy strategy. One of the biggest mistakes casual guests make during weeks like this is assuming that Genie+ is an “easy” option for front-of-line access. It very much is not. You need an all of the above approach to beat the crowds–but it can be done!
