An Afternoon in Disney’s Hollywood Studios
Following our Afternoon at Epcot post the other day, here’s another live post from Walt Disney World, this time from Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Except this one actually is live! I know I said I’d try to do a live Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party post, but I realized there’s a lot to cover regarding the Halloween Party this year, so I should actually take the time to edit a decent number of photos and actually write a high-quality post, rather than a quick-and-dirty one.
We are now at the tail end of our trip, and it has been a great one. The weather has been phenomenal, and we have done a lot of new things and visited plenty of new hotels, restaurants, etc. I don’t want to spoil all of that, but suffice to say, we already have a “backlog” of Walt Disney World post ideas that will need to be written over the next few months.
As for Disney’s Hollywood Studios, well…it has seen better days. If I weren’t an Annual Passholder, I’d be offended by the cost of admission here. With that said, I’ve actually enjoyed being here this trip. Part of that is the lack of the obnoxiously-placed Sorceror Hat and stage. Part of that is seeing old favorites for the last time and having excitement for what the future holds…
More on all of that later, now on with some photos. Check back throughout the afternoon as we add more!
What a view! Unlike the other ‘removals’ at DHS lately, this is addition by subtraction.
Even the counter service dining situation at DHS leaves a lot to be desired.
Dragon-princess on the move!
Sarah’s salmon at ABC Commissary.
*Technical difficulties prevented further updates yesterday, but here are some additional photos*
I love this statue near the intersection of Hollywood & Sunset. I hope part of the relaunch of this park involves placemaking elements like this (and landscaping) in other areas that aren’t receiving huge additions or changes.
We got the cowboy scene on Great Movie Ride for the second time this trip! I have a lot of thoughts about the TCM-induced changes at Great Movie Ride, but those probably deserve a longer post…
Palm trees and puffy clouds…if it weren’t for that humidity, Florida would be the perfect place to live.
Thanks for 11 years of zany antics and fun performances, Mulch, Sweat, and Shears. You will be missed.
Okay, that does it for yesterday in DHS. I’m not even going to bother with these live update posts for the rest of the trip…

YOUR THOUGHTS…
Are you excited to see Disney’s Hollywood Studios with the hat and stage gone? Excited for what the future at this park holds? If you have any questions or thoughts to share, please post them in the comments. We love hearing from readers!
We got to see the final-ever performance of Mulch, Sweat, and Shears. It was neat to be there for it.
I was at Hollywood Studios on the evening of Sept 30. We saved our fastpasses for that night. It was a real waste. Tower of terror had a 15 minute wait… Rockin roller coaster wasn’t too long either. It was crazy. I have to think with so much less attractions, people might be skipping it completely. They really need so significantly lower the admission price during this transition.
When will the Star Wars Launch Bay be open? And will Hollywood Studios have the Star Wars Force Awakens version of Star Tours? If so, when will it be happening? And will the Magic Kingdom be recieving the Hyperspace mountain?
My family will be going in early december this year so we were hoping that these attractions will be open by then
i know this is not your favorite but is our families for the past several years. I agree on lack of attractions but this park has some hidden gems, especially the Hollywood and vine players, the feel and music on sunset strip, muppets, tot story area etc. we love the rides, food and I enjoy a beer here and there. Hollywood studios should be taken in a morning then evening to get the full pleasure. Staying at boardwalk does not hurt.
The lack of interesting food options at DHS is honestly very disappointing. I’m really hoping that Star Wars Land will offer some delicious variety! :p
Didja get the shirt?
I surprised more people aren’t asking about the shirt, since there was no mention of it in the post, you know we all want to know 🙂
The hat has wings too!?!?
I am excited for the future Disneyworld posts, especially the hotel reviews!
Short but sweet. Too bad about the park in general, but it will be a prime destination soon enough.
I always love your photos! The theatre looks great without the sorcer’s hat!
As an Annual Passholder I have actually found myself going to Hollywood Stfor the rides and shows but then eating at Epcot. I love he remaining rides at HS but have been disappointed by pretty much every meal there. Meanwhile I have found the last few trips to Epcot not riding any rides
I will be taking my 8 year old niece on her first Walt Disney World trip at the end of this month and I am still excited to visit Hollywood Studios with her. Tower of Terror alone is worth a parkhop, especially for a first time visitor. I know she will love Rock N’ Roller Coaster, Star Tours, and Midway Mania as well. I guess I will finally be viewing the Frozen sing a long also as her being an 8 year old girl is pretty much obsessed with all things Frozen (I still very much enjoy Frozen as well, just wished it wasn’t so jammed into so many things at the parks). Lastly, we are also going to eat at Prime Time cafe while there as its always a fun experience.
I am very much looking forward to your post on this years MNSSHP as well. We are going on Halloween itself and while I expect the crowds to be somewhat crazy, I am still super excited for it.
