Disneyland Area Hotel Reviews & Rankings
Looking for a great hotel near Disneyland and California Adventure? This ranks & reviews 50+ of the best and worst hotels in Anaheim, including pros & cons, room photos, and a numerical score based upon walking distance, prices, room quality & size, and amenities. (Updated February 10, 2023.)
Disneyland has seen a hotel explosion in the last few years, and several of the accommodations reviewed here are brand new! With over a dozen new properties and thousands of rooms added, you can often find some great deals, especially during California’s off-season or when events aren’t scheduled at the nearby Anaheim Convention Center.
We recommend booking a discounted hotel + ticket vacation package via Get Away Today to save money. In addition to the package discount, some hotels have ‘4th night free’ promos, and there’s currently a ‘5th day free’ promo on park tickets. Save an extra $10 by using code TOURIST at checkout (valid on 2-night and longer stays). Click here to check out the package discounts available. This is in addition to any package or bundle savings on tickets and hotels.
Our rankings are based upon firsthand experience doing actual stays at all of the hotels–many multiple times. I have stayed at 65+ hotels near Disneyland and this is the only resource ranking so many Anaheim hotels from the perspective of one individual. Every other comprehensive guide or list is inconsistent due to crowd-sourcing.
Scoring is based upon important objective details that will matter most if you’re planning a vacation to Disneyland Resort…plus some of my opinions. You can also read our overall comparison of the benefits of staying in Disney-owned hotels versus third party accommodations in Off-Site v. On-Site Disneyland Hotels: Where to Stay.
Rankings are determined by best total scores, which are out of a possible 30 points in 4 categories. There’s a maximum of 10 points for distance, 8 points for room quality & size, 7 points for cost, and 5 points for amenities. Those odd numbers might seem, well, odd, but they were chosen with careful consideration after a lot of reader feedback.
Location, room, and cost are the big factors for most visitors to Disneyland, which is why they’re weighted. There’s a possibility what you prioritize in a hotel near Disneyland and Disney California Adventure will differ at least slightly from our scale. In that case, you can glean the selling points of each hotel from its summary, pros & cons, and the sub-divided numerical scores.
One thing to note before we get going is that Anaheim has a lot of sketchy hotels. We purposefully haven’t stayed in most of them and would likewise recommend you avoid them. If the price sounds too good to be true…it is! As for this list, we’d be comfortable staying at any hotel in the top 46 of this list. Those all have something to offer and are safe options.
Now, on with the Anaheim/Disneyland-area hotel rankings! Clicking on any hotel name (that’s clickable) or links to the reviews will open the detailed review containing additional photos, info, and thoughts on that hotel in a new window. Let’s check out the rankings…
53. Alamo Inn & Suites
Alamo Inn & Suites should be the poster child for Hotel Hell. Except, in this case, Alamo Inn is simply a lost cause. This hell-hole should be stayed in by absolutely no one. Don’t risk it. Read and see more in our full Alamo Inn & Suites Review

51. Rodeway Inn & Suites Anaheim
Rodeway Inn is a bit on the scary side, but not quite as scary as Alamo Inn & Suites. Another downside is that it’s farther away. Not recommended.

50. Americas Best Value Inn & Suites
Americas Best Value Inn & Suites is a budget ‘shower & sleep’ option that’s one of the cheapest hotels within walking distance of Disneyland. That alone is worth something points, but the motel itself is absolutely nothing special. Read and see more in our full Americas Best Value Inn & Suites Review

49. Delta Hotel by Marriott Anaheim Resort
A perfectly adequate hotel, but easily surpassed by the other chained-brand Anaheim Convention Center hotels. This makes me hesitant to recommend it. Read and see more in our full review

48. Extended Stay America Anaheim Convention Center
Extended Stay America is often the cheapest 2-star hotel in the Disney South zone on Hotwire’s “Hot Rate” section. That makes it a solid hotel if you want to prepare you meals in a full kitchen, but otherwise are fine with a barebones place to stay.

46. Ayres Hotel Anaheim
This would rank highly due to its European boutique hotel style with the service of a family-owned mom & pop hotel. Distance from the parks knocks it down in our rankings, but if you’re driving that’s fine. Perfect for a Southern California with a visit to Disneyland being only one part of that trip, as opposed to a Disneyland vacation. Read and see more in our full Ayres Hotel Anaheim Review

The rooms aren’t trendy, but they also aren’t dated, and the slate of amenities is really impressive. The biggest downside is proximity, as it’s about a 30 minute walk, which really pushes the limits of walking distance. Read and see more in our Sonesta Anaheim Resort Area Review

The biggest downside is location, back by Mickey & Friends parking structure, but there’s a shuttle. Read and see more in our full Anaheim Majestic Garden Hotel Review

41. Courtyard by Marriott Anaheim Resort
Nestled between Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse and the Anaheim Convention Center, this Courtyard is pretty nondescript from the outside. Heck, the main entrance doesn’t even have a marquee. However, the rooms are fairly modern and nice (and not cookie-cutter), and it’s convenient for both the parks and the ACC.

39. Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel
Here you’re paying a significant premium for that Disney’s in the name. Currently in the midst of a reimagining to turn it into Pixar Place Hotel, it’s also a construction zone right now. If money is an issue, stay at a comparable-quality-but-cheaper off-site hotel. If money is no issue, go for the vastly superior Disneyland Hotel or Grand Californian. Located behind the Mickey & Friends Parking Structure, this is a really long walk. Otherwise, it’s nice. For our personal tastes, the room layout here is great, and having some extra space to spread out is always a good thing.

37. Hampton Inn & Suites Anaheim
This Hampton Inn is brand new, and follows the formula of all recent ‘big box’ hotel chains in Anaheim. The rooms aren’t as interesting, but the biggest downside is proximity to Disneyland. You’re looking at about a 25 minute walk to the parks; if not for that, this would be much higher up the list.

36. The Anaheim Hotel
Very much a mixed bag. This is the oldest hotel in Anaheim…and it shows! While the lobby has been overhauled, amenities enhanced, and some rooms upgraded, it simply feels old and tired. Some rooms are dark and dingy, effectively in a “basement” of outer buildings. Read and see more in our full Anaheim Hotel Review

33. Alpine Inn
Alpine Inn has curb appeal with the cute chalet style check-in building, but otherwise a budget motel in most regards. The walk to the parks isn’t terrible, but rooms are basic and it can be pricey. We still like it as a budget hotel, but you can generally get more bang for your buck. Read and see more in our full Alpine Inn Hotel Review

32. Anaheim Marriott
Anaheim Marriott’s nice rooms and impressive amenities (Starbucks, rental car, fitness center, pool, etc.) catapult it up the list. Unfortunately, the long walk from the hotel to Disneyland does damper our enthusiasm for it a bit, as do the rack rates and fees. If you’re loyal to Marriott or are visiting Anaheim for a convention, this is a good option. Otherwise, you’re almost certainly better off elsewhere. 31. Hyatt Regency Orange County
This is really one of my favorite hotels near Disneyland, but it’s a solid 30 minute walk to the parks and isn’t in the best location. If you’re a conventioneer, business traveler, have loyalty to Hyatt, or are willing to take an Uber to/from Disneyland, this will be an ideal option for you. 30. Castle Inn & Suites
Who among us doesn’t want to live in a castle?! Well…probably a lot of the adults out there. Castle Inn & Suites is basically “Medieval Times: The Motel,” and like that dinner show, this feels a lot like the early 90s. However, the rooms do have interesting character and the hotel isn’t altogether dated. Let’s be honest, though, the main reason to stay here is because it’ll make your kids happy. 29. Candlewood Suites Anaheim Resort Area
Candlewood Suites is another newer, family suite-centric hotel in the Anaheim Resort area. Its rooms are nice, but more compact than other options. Its amenities are not as impressive, thanks to a smaller pool and lack of a free breakfast, but it’s still a solid option. Pricing is often more attractive than its family suite competitors, too.

Clarion Hotel’s dated interior feels like a time capsule, but at least it’s a well-maintained time capsule. Rooms are also surprisingly nice and spacious. Datedness is reflected in the prices, which are the lowest of any hotel this close to Disneyland.

Although it has garnered mixed reviews online, we are fans of Four Points by Sheraton Anaheim. Fairfield Inn Anaheim Resort is a nicely balanced mid-tier name brand hotel that offers close proximity to Disneyland, solid rooms, and a decent slate of amenities. 7. Disneyland Hotel
If money were no issue, Disneyland Hotel would rank #2. Great nods to Disney history, an excellent aesthetic, great pool, and on-site dining options make it an excellent official hotel. What it lacks in terms of grandiosity it makes up for in charm, much like Disneyland itself. The walk is longer, but entirely through Downtown Disney. This is our top pick for Disney geeks and is also a great option for those wanting convenience to Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar. Read and see more in our full Disneyland Hotel Review
Pros: On-site hotel with “Disney magic”; great pool, restaurants, and other amenities
Cons: Price; farther from parks than Grand Californian and some Harbor Blvd. hotels

6. Tropicana Inn & Suites
Tropicana Inn & Suites is one of several hotels on this list that there’s nothing wrong with, but also not much special about. It’s a fine little motel that is safe and has fine guest rooms. There are two ways it is exceptional: in price and location. The orange barons who (probably) own this hotel know it’s on prime real estate, and charge accordingly. 5. Courtyard Marriott Theme Park Entrance
Courtyard Anaheim Theme Park Entrance sets a high bar for off-site Disneyland hotels, particularly for families with kids. The overall quality and the reasonably short walk to the park are the strong selling points here, with this hotel being far superior to Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel in both regards. Price is unquestionably the biggest downside, with this hotel costing ~$100/night more than some off-site alternatives; even comparable hotels can be significantly less expensive depending upon when you’re traveling. This is our top pick for families wanting a short walk but who are not on a tight budget. Read and see more in our full review
Pros: Off-site hotel with excellent, family suite-sized rooms.

4. Best Western Plus Anaheim Inn
In many regards, this is very similar to the #1 Best Western Plus Park Place Inn that’s a literal stone’s throw away. That should make sense, as both are owned and operated by the same family. It’s maybe 60 seconds longer of a walk and the amenities aren’t quite as nice, but otherwise, they’re nearly equal.

3. Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa
If money were no issue, this would be the #1 hotel on this list. Location is the obvious selling point, with a dedicated entrance into Disney California Adventure. For me, it’s the Craftsman style that is the bigger selling point, with tons of well-done details beyond the grandiose lobby. This is one of the absolute nicest Disney hotels in the world, and is even nicer now thanks to the completion much-needed room refurbishment. This is our top pick for high-rollers or anyone wanting the ultimate in Disney luxury. Read and see more in our full Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa Review

2. Residence Inn Anaheim Resort
The Residence Inn Anaheim Resort Convention Center claims the #2 spot by offering exceptional bang for buck for any party looking for more spacious accommodations than a standard hotel room. This Residence Inn was built with families visiting Disneyland in mind, rather than extended stays. Anyone looking to save money by cooking their own meals or wanting more space will love it. This is our top pick for families on a budget or anyone needing more space but not wanting to get two separate rooms. Pros: High quality, family suite-sized rooms with extended stay amenities (namely, a kitchen).

1. Best Western Plus Park Place Inn
The Best Western Plus Park Place Inn is the closest hotel to Disneyland, directly across the street from the main entrance. You literally walk a few steps, and you’re on-site. It’ll take you 10 minutes to go from your hotel room door to being inside Disneyland or DCA. Location isn’t the only selling point of Park Place Inn, which also has nice guest rooms, a solid free continental breakfast with hot items, and other amenities. All of this at a cost that’s a fraction of the price of staying in one of Disney’s official on-site hotels. Read and see more in our full Best Western Park Place Inn Review

There are over 100 hotels in Anaheim, but I do not intend to review them all. Many are either too far away from Disneyland to be practical or are too shady to bother. By my count, there are about 70 or so options worthy of consideration, meaning this work-in-progress review and ranking of Anaheim hotels needs ~10 additional hotels to be complete.

Your Thoughts
Okay, now it’s your turn! I mentioned being apprehensive of crowd-sourced opinions of hotels above, but also the benefits of such info. I think that differing opinions would be especially helpful here, as those thoughts would be coming from other Disneyland fans rather than just random visitors to Anaheim. If you’ve stayed at any hotels in Anaheim, please share your thoughts about them in the comments below. The more info and frame of reference you can provide, the better.
Surprised not to see the Doubletree Suites on your list – is that because you haven’t stayed there? We need a suite to accommodate our family and it was very nice. Well worth the price plus the ART bus pass.
Hello. Wish we had known about your blog earlier, we just booked our flights and hotel yesterday for our end of April 2020 trip. We are staying at the Residence Inn Anaheim Resort/Garden Grove. Any experiences there? Thanks so much. Kristin
Stayed at this hotel multiple times. Love everything about it except it is too far to walk to the parks. You will have to rely on ART, Uber or driving. Other than that, perfect for families. The pool area is a nice set up for families with a hot tub, family pool and kiddie pool. Surrounding the pool area are barbeques and picnic tables available for use. Many times we bbqed burgers while the kids played in the pool, had an easy dinner by the pool and then back to the parks for the evening. A really relaxing break from the parks.
Plan for chaos at their free hot breakfast, and you will be fine.
We always chose the 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom unit with 3 kids. The extra space and privacy are worth it.
Thank you so much I really appreciate your review. We did choose the 2 bedroom suite as it’s us, our 3 young kids, and grandparents. Sounds like we may want to think about making our own breakfast in our room! We knew we’d need to take a shuttle to the parks but no biggie there. Sounds great about the grills by the pool, not a bad idea! Thanks again!
What about Clementine Suites. We will be there in July.
I was there when it was still a Residence Inn in Fall 2018. It’s very close to restaurants and an easy distance to walk for teens and adults. Seems recent reviews talk about general shabbiness but it was ok when we were there.
Agreed! We stayed there in 2012 and 2013, and need to know if it is still as awesome, especially the breakfast buffet.
We plan to start our stay at Disneyland Hotel then switch to Best Western Plus Park Place to save money. Our question is how close are they? hard to tell from the map. we wonder if we will need to uber or can we easily wheel our luggage over? Thank you for your help
You could theoretically walk, but the problem is that the only direct route goes through Downtown Disney, which would mean taking your luggage through bag check, which would be time-consuming.
We’d recommend just taking an Uber.
Hi there. I am visiting for the first time ever in October half term this year, I’m super excited but it looks like I’m going to be planning a strict schedule soon haha.
We are staying at the Animal Kingdom hotel – have you any feedback on this hotel?
Thanks
That’s in Walt Disney World. These are hotels at Disney Land.
How about the Holiday Inn Express?
My sister and I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites summer 2019 and thought it was great. We clocked the walk from inside Disney to our hotel at about 12 minutes. The beds were very comfortable and it was a nicely maintained property. We would stay there again. Hope this is a little helpful.
How about Hilton Anaheim ? I have heard good and bad. Needs refurbishing in rooms is a big one? I am staying there, should I Change hotels?
Thank you.
I want to know this too.
I stayed at the Hilton Anaheim in October 2018. It was perfectly fine–the common areas of the hotel are very nice. The rooms felt a bit dated, but they were clean and, again, perfectly fine. If you are not a Hilton Honors member, you should join in order to get the free WiFi–otherwise you will need to pay for it per day, which I always find annoying (but is typical of hotels that cater to business travelers).
I was there for a solo visit and felt very safe. There is an ART stop right in front of the hotel which was very convenient. I generally walked because I enjoy the walk and the distance to Disneyland is very manageable. However, I did sometimes appreciate having the bus on my way back at night. There are plenty of places on the way there and back for coffee, food, groceries, first aid supplies, etc.
If the Residence Inn or Springhill Suites near the Hilton are available for a comparable price, I think those are slightly nicer hotels, simply because they are newer. But if you got a good price on the Hilton, there’s no real reason to look elsewhere.
Has the Country Inn and Suites closed already?!?!
I was wondering what you thought of the Best Western Stovalls Inn? any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
I was looking for it on the list. We liked it and will stay again. Clean rooms, good breakfast, away from the hustle and bustle if harbor avenue. Just one block past Paradise Pier hotel so not bad as far as walking distance. ART shuttle stops right outside if you don’t want to walk.
Thank you Nancy!
Hi Tom,
First off, love your blog; it’s been so helpful on our prior two Disney trips. We stayed at the RESIDENCE INN ANAHEIM RESORT last year after reading your list and think your review is spot on. The place was clean and the kitchen was great and it was so nice to have an extra room for our daughter without a hefty price tag. The front desk crew was very helpful and worked with our crib delivery people to have everything set up in our room. We liked the on-site Pizza Hut and the pharmacy and Starbucks across the street. Our only con was that the light at Katella is super long…like 5+minutes which adds a lot to the walk and somehow I feel like being on that side of the street you just feel a little more out of the Disney bubble (but the price for quality ratio is good). We would definitely recommend to people I just always mention those caveats. We stayed in a traditional room with the more subdued decor and no bath (hard to bathe a toddler in the shower) but if we were to stay again we’d probably try those family rooms with fun decor and bathtubs.
First of all- love your blog & all the great info! We have been to WDW 5 times & recently went to DL for first time in May. After research we stayed at Park Vue Inn & I have to say it feels like it is in the Disney Bubble! We could see the entire fireworks from our bed- didn’t even have to go to balcony & could see the welcome to DL sign from our door! Free breakfast & parking was great- even bacon for my teen boys! Also has a store on bottom level with Disney souvenirs & cold drinks & snacks where u can grab a coke or water for cheap on your way to DL! Took less than 5 min to be in the park after security! My boys said it feels way more like staying in Disney than the 20 min bus rides from Value & Port Orleans did in WDW! Have read Park Vue is closer than DL than Disney hotels! We also used the laundry, pool, rooftop deck for breakfast & coldstone creamery in the building!

Hi, I didn’t see a review for the Portofino Suites. We’re first timers to DL and it’s already booked.
We simply haven’t stayed there yet. It looks nice from the street–the entrance is lush! Beyond that, I don’t have any feedback on it yet. Sorry!
I can’t find the Portofino Suites on the list. We’re first timers and have booked it.
Tom, thank you for your recommendation for the Best Western Plus Park Place Inn – we stayed there in June for our first ever visit to Disneyland thanks to your review. So incredibly convenient – just a crosswalk away from Disneyland! Nice rooms, good breakfast buffet and much better prices than the few Disneyland hotels available – what’s not to love? Thanks again!
My daughter goes to Disneyland several times a month and she says that the homeless people with their tents and bags camping out in front of the front entrance to Disneyland which is directly across the street from many of these hotels is making it unsafe to stay at them. Have you heard anything about this?
Sadly, California is in the midst of a homelessness epidemic. You’ll encounter homeless people just about anywhere you go. Even many of the Cast Members working at Disneyland are homeless–or an unexpected bill away from being homeless.
I don’t think that makes the area unsafe. To be sure, there are homeless people with addiction problems and mental illness, but most are just minding their own business.
I’m having a hard time trying to decide. Currently I have both Motel 6 Maingate and Candlewood Suites booked. What would you recommend between the 2. Also some stated that Candlewood is filled with drug dealers and prostitutes, I’m doubting the truth of it but also not sure. It will only be my husband and I.
Hi! Any info on The Kings Inn Anaheim? Thanks!
We stayed at The Anaheim Hotel last year, only for one night, but we thought it was really great, and only about a 5 minute walk. It has a large pool area, nice new lobby, clean rooms and a Pizza Press. Our room had a fireworks view, we didn’t request it, and it woke us up, as we had flown in from Australia at 6am and headed straight to the parks…we were so incredibly tired, but I didn’t mind waking up to look at the fireworks. It might be worth a review one day.
Thank you for saying that! We have booked this hotel for December and I was worried not seeing it on this list. Probably haven’t been tried yet?
But your comment makes me feel better about our choice!
My husband and I stay at the Anaheim Hotel every time! We love the patios and balconies that come with most rooms, the quick walk to Disneyland and The Pizza Press. We stayed last in May with our new baby and had a great experience. We wouldn’t hesitate to book there again! 🙂
We feel the same way – love the Anaheim for its location, huge pool, fun lobby decor and the great pizza place. Yes, rooms definitely dated, but clean, plus balcony and refrigerator without an extra charge. We earlier stayed at the Hojo up the street several times and enjoyed it, but no balcony (or at least our room didn’t have one), and the pool / splash area was great when my girls were younger, but now they enjoy the massive pool at the Anaheim much more (plus, cuts off about five minutes walk time to the park.)
We stayed at the Anaheim Hotel Dec. 2019 for one week. The shower was awful- it once took a full 5 min for the water to heat up and the water pressure was always low & inconsistent. The shower head is really low too. I am 5’7″ and I had to crouch to rinse my hair. The rooms were dated (but many of the hotels are..) and the rugs old. The bathroom area looked like it recently had a refresh though. The rooms were kept tidy and the beds were actually very comfortable. The lobby is lovely. The front desk staff were not the friendliest, but the parking attendees and the cleaning staff were super friendly. The heating/cooling unit is really loud so we kept it off at night (it ‘clunked’ loudly every time it started up).
The location was incredible. I stayed at the Howard Johnson 2 yrs ago and it was slightly nicer (the showers there are great); however, the comfortable beds and the shorter walk (it was so close to Disneyland!!) made the horrible showers at the Anaheim Hotel worth it. (plus it was cheap 🙂
Any experience with Best Western Anaheim Inn? Its one of the few (affordable) hotels available for our dates that is super close to the parks. Concerned that I didn’t see it on the list. I’m finding really positive reviews on Tripadvisor, but not really seeing it anywhere else.
Thanks!
The only reason it’s not on the list is because we’ve yet to stay. Somehow, it has never had availability for the dates we’ve wanted to book it.
It’s operated by the same family as several other Best Westerns in Anaheim, all of which are nice. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay there!
I’ll be staying there in 2 weeks and I’m excited to see what it’s like. The rooms look nice and bright and clean and the reviews for it are spectacular, still super close to the park.
How was your stay? Hoping to stay there in April.
We’re planning to stay here in April. Just wondering if you stayed and what your experience was. Thanks!
